Any fans? A Canadian soap about a man trying to revive his dead (or simply nearly dead?) wife via a deal with the evil spirit of his ancestor (represented by a portrait, and who possesses him from time to time). There's a petulant blonde daughter in the mix, a maid with voodoo powers, and an ancestral mansion and a local drinking establishment as its two main sets....

I stumbled across this on Youtube and it's been a...I dunno, a pleasant curiosity? Looks to have more of a budget than DS, but seems to lift so much from it. Its premiere seems to coincide with Costello's departure from DS (please correct me if I'm mistaken). It's also the whitest piece of Caribbean-set drama I've ever seen.  [ghost_cheesy]

I don't think they're all on Youtube, but there are less than 200 total; I'm going to try to get through the nine-month run if I can.

Current Talk '12 I / Portrait question
« on: April 22, 2012, 10:26:46 PM »
Somewhere bewteen Leviathans and Parallel Time a few months later, Barnabas' portrait is replaced (and not by the one from HODS). It's subtle but it's a different painting. Does anyone know the details of why the original portrait is gone? I remember hearing a fire or a theft, but I've also heard Forrest Ackerman had one in his "Ackermansion." Would love to know the story.

I am reading an interview with Sam Hall. In it, Hall mentions that Dan Curtis once penalized them for using too many actors by forcing them to do an episode with only two actors. Hall says they did an entire episode with just Grayson Hall and Nancy Barrett.  Can anyone tell me what episode this is, and in what storyline it appeared?  Many thanks in advance.

It was usually on a bed in 1795 or at the Evans cottage. I need  a pic of it. Anyone?

Calendar Events / Announcements '07 II / A letter from Jonathan Frid
« on: August 26, 2007, 08:32:07 PM »
Found this at a horror con. I'll guess it's not a new sight to many of the veteran fans, but other newcomers like me might get a kick out of it. How fun it must have been to get one of these in the mail as a kid back then. If anyone knows more about this, please share.

Pic here!

Can anyone tell me a more specific version of this story?

"Mr. Edmonds and Mr. Frid were out dancing at some clubs one evening (durring the origional run of D.S.) and Mr. Edmonds got cought up in the moment and ended up dancing naked! Mr. Frid was so angry with Mr. Edmonds over this that he didn't speak to him for several weeks!"

Current Talk '07 II / Please help me with airdates of reruns
« on: July 09, 2007, 11:59:12 PM »
Good evening, cousins. I was hoping some of the old timers ( :P) could help me "figure out my past".

I think I might have first seen DS in reruns in the ealry 70s, but have no memory of them. The show captured my imagination when NBC Channel 4 in NYC began running the reruns in the afternoon. It lasted a while, but eventually I was forced to hunt for the 3am broadcasts. This must have been somewhere around 1982 or 83, but I just don't know when exactly. Can anyone help?

Additionally, if anyone can tell me the month and year they began to rerun DS on NJN, I'd appreciate it.

Stumbled upon the site of a graphic designer who did some work on the 2004 WB pilot. (Sorry if old news)

I'm hip-deep in Dream Curse episodes. Is it me, or did Willie come out of that mental hospital WAY worse than he went in? He's suddenly got a Maggie fetish, wants to kill Joe Haskell, taunts Adam.  Remind me to not get help with any mental issues in Collingswood.

It's so much fun seeing eps I've never seen before, even if logic didn't renew its contract. Adam is interesting so far - you can tell they like lighting that Frankenbrow of his.

Cured Barnabas with rosy cheeks! That's an adjustment. My wife and I are sad we don't have more Dr. Lang. He's a hoot.

Julia dumps her dream onto Mrs. Johnson, then smacks Mrs Johnson around for wanting to tell David. You can almost hear Grayson Hall shrieking "Do as I SAY, not as I do!"

Maggie's dad is back! Without his beard!  Was his absence due to marrying Nancy Barrett? She seems to be on break as well.

If this family is so rich, why are Cassandra and Elizabeth time-sharing that electric green coat?

Current Talk '06 II / Jump cuts in Episode 432
« on: November 13, 2006, 05:48:31 AM »
When Daniel, Trask and Naomi are looking at Abigal's body against a tree in ep 432 (DVD collection 6, last ep of disc 2), there are two weird, very glaring jump cuts in the same shot.  Is this a rare instance of an edit that happened during taping? To cover "dead" Abigal? Or was it made after the fact by MPI for some reason? Curious if anyone has some info.

Current Talk '06 II / Other Barnabases (Barnabii?)

I read somewhere that Bert Convy tried out for the role before Frid got it. Does anyone know of other noteworthy performers who auditioned for the part?

Current Talk '06 II / Burning Down the (Old) House
« on: October 27, 2006, 08:13:21 PM »
I've heard stories in interviews about them sending out the Old House set to be repaired, and instead it was scrapped. Can anyone tell me where in the show's run this happened?  Thanks!

Current Talk '06 II / Another pic question
« on: October 27, 2006, 03:41:47 AM »
What is with the shots of Frid in 1795 clothing hanging around the REAL Old House? He's standing inside, outside, there's snow on the ground...(these pics are on the front and back cover of the Companion - 25th anniversary edition), and I think the pic on the front of the Millenium edition of the Almanac is from the same shoot. I think Volume 7 of the DVDs also features a pic from this. What are they from?
