If you don't want to know the circumstances surrounding June 17th's entry in this slideshow, then don't read any further...

[spoiler]June 17th's quote:
Ep #687 (1969) - Barnabas - 'Yes, we MUST find an answer, somehow.'

From "Robservations 10/11/02 - #686/687 - Ned Stewart Comes to Town"
Barnabas returns. We made it to the mausoleum without a moment to spare, he says--Chris did go through the transformation, but he's safely ensconced in the secret room for the night--this latest development makes it impossible for us to work; he could go through the transformation every night now--we have to find an answer, someone. How? asks Julia.

The Robservations paraphrases the quote and not only doesn't use the "MUST" (shameful!!) but weirdly has "somehow" as "someone"...

If you don't want to know the circumstances surrounding June 18th's entry in this slideshow, then don't read any further...

[spoiler]June 18th's quote:
Ep #602 (1968) - Adam - 'Nicholas, I MUST talk to you. I MUST take Eve away from here.'

From "Robservations 8/13/02 - #602/603 - Death Stalks Mrs. Stoddard"
Adam tells Nicholas he must take Eve away. Nicholas agrees their time is almost up, but HE makes the decisions here. Eve and I are unhappy, bitches Adam, we want to leave tomorrow. Where would you go? asks Nicholas. The city, nearby, says Adam--I want to be alone with Eve--I can get a job.

The Robservations doesn't reference the quote directly but does reference its circumstances...

If you don't want to know the circumstances surrounding June 19th's entry in this slideshow, then don't read any further...

[spoiler]June 19th's quote:
Ep #453 (1796) - Nathan - 'I'm the one you MUST talk to. As long as Millicent is no longer capable of making decisions on her own, I MUST make them for her.'

From "#0453/0454: Robservations 04/23/02: Daniel's Life in Danger"
Daniel says Riggs told him his sister was to be kept under lock and key, and no visitors. Soberly, Nathan says it wasn't his decision alone, Joshua and the family doctor said to keep her isolated for a few days. Daniel loves his sister, and he's worried about her. She'll have to stay in her room for a while, and might not recognize Daniel. She isn't herself, her mind has become irrational. Daniel is puzzled. Nathan promises she'll get good care and treatment, but the doctor isn't optimistic. Is Millicent crazy? asks Daniel--I don't believe it. Nathan understands. She was all right the day before yesterday, says Daniel, and promised him they'd return to NY. All that's changed, says Nathan, they're staying at Collinwood--and Daniel has no choice. Daniel is going to talk to his cousins about that, but Nathan tells him HE is making Millicent's decisions, and now that she's incapacitated, HE is Daniel's legal guardian.
Daniel doesn't want him to do that, but Nathan says it's a question of law--he's married to Millicent and responsible for her brother's well being. (uh oh) Daniel accuses him of being different--unfriendly. He doesn't want to stay at Collinwood, and won't do anything until he talks to his sister. He threatens to get Cousin Naomi, and Forbes grabs and shakes the boy, warning him that he is in HIS care now, and he'll make all the decision affecting him and his future--cooperate and life will be pleasant, if not, very difficult. Is that quite clear? Yes, mutters Daniel, and stumbles from the room.

The Robservations doesn't reference the quote directly but does reference its circumstances...

If you don't want to know the circumstances surrounding June 20th's entry in this slideshow, then don't read any further...

[spoiler]June 20th's quote:
Ep #341 (1967) - Barnabas - 'Death MUST have been instant. There doesn't seem to have been any pain and such a good man, too.'

From "#0341/0342: Robservations 02/04/02: Au Revoir, Dr. Woodard"
Julia looks at Dave's body and cries, "No!" Barnabas demands that she tell him if Dave is dead, and she heartbrokenly assures him he is. Barnabas marvels that a lesser dose of that same medicine is curative. Well, it worked, he taunts Julia, Woodard has been cured of fatal curiosity!

The Robservations doesn't reference the quote but it takes place after Julia explains that Dr. Woodard is indeed dead and before she insists it will be attributed to a coronary and she points out that a lesser dose of the medicine could have been curative and Barnabas marvels at that fact...

If you don't want to know the circumstances surrounding June 21st's entry in this slideshow, then don't read any further...

[spoiler]June 21st's quote:
Ep #173 (1967) - David - 'Why? Why MUST there be secrets from me?'

From "#0172/0173: Robservations 09/20/01: Sarah Guards the Gate"
Drawing room - Vicki arranges flowers in a vase. David comes in and, apparently furious, says he wants to talk to her. Look at these flowers from Dr. Guthrie, she says, he sent them to me because I wasn't feeling well--wasn't that nice of him? I don't care, pouts David. What don't you care about? she asks, that I wasn't feeling well or that he sent me flowers? I don't care about anything, he says angrily, I want to talk to you. All right, she says, and sits on the piano bench. I heard about last night, he says, about the seance. Who told you? she asks. Mrs. Johnson, he says. I'm going to have to talk to her, says Vicki--she shouldn't have! Why must there be secrets from me? he asks. She seats him next to her. It's not a question of secrets, she says, but there are certain things it's better off for a little boy not to know about. Not when it comes to Josette, he says, I saw her first, so she's mine! There is no such thing as owning her, says Vicki. But there is! he insists. First of all, you're being very silly, she says, and secondly, you're being rude.

The Robservations references the quote almost perfectly...

If you don't want to know the circumstances surrounding June 22nd's entry in this slideshow, then don't read any further...

[spoiler]June 22nd's quote:
Ep #96 (1966) - Vicki - 'And that MUST have been the one I found at Lookout Point, exactly on the spot where Bill Malloy was killed. (THE PEN!)'

From "#0095/0096: Robservations 07/27/01: Roger or Burke?"
It was in the restaurant where you met me, says Vicki--Burke came in there with a business associate of his, a Mr. Blair--Mr. Blair sat down to look at some papers and he took out a pen identical to the one I'd found. That sounds odd, says Roger--what was so special about it? It had all that silver filigree work on it, says Vicki--I'd have recognized it anywhere. Was it like the one you thought David had stolen? Asks Roger. Exactly like it, says Vicki, and when I asked Mr. Blair about it, he said there were only 6 in the whole world, four in South America--he has one, and Burke the other--and that must have been the one I found on Lookout Point--exactly on the spot where Malloy was killed.
You mean where he had his accident, don't you? asks Roger. I don't know what I mean anymore, says Vicki. Roger smirks and gives her an arch look.

The Robservations references the quote nearly perfectly...

If you don't want to know the circumstances surrounding June 23rd's entry in this slideshow, then don't read any further...

[spoiler]June 23rd's quote:
Ep #37 (1966) - Roger - 'I know you MUST be angry with me.'

From "#0037/0038: Robservations 06/13/01: Giving Carolyn a Ring"
Drawing room - Roger apologetically tells Vicki he's been boorish and rude and completely unfriendly. And without reason, she tells him. And I certainly wouldn't blame you if you went up and repeated everything to my sister, he says, but I'd really rather you didn't--why burden Elizabeth with our petty quarrels. It was hardly a petty quarrel, says Vicki. I know it, he says, and you're completely right, and I do deeply apologize--but lately I've had all these pressures on me from many directions--you do understand, don't you? It's still no reason to accuse me of snooping and prying, she says. Did I say all those words? He asks. Many times, she says, sitting on the sofa. Then I'm prepared to offer you a complete apology for every time, if you will, he says, sitting across from her--you see, I'm willing to go to any lengths to be restored to your good favor

The Robservations doesn't reference the quote at all. However, it comes up at the outset of the scene before Roger admits that he's been boorish, rude, and completely unfriendly...

If you don't want to know the circumstances surrounding June 24th's entry in this slideshow, then don't read any further...

[spoiler]June 24th's quote:
Ep #1214 (1841PT[-1967: Ep #263]) - Melanie - 'Cousin Josette, why did you come here tonight? It MUST be terribly late, and was I very ill?'

From "#1214/1215: Robservations 12/18/03: Not Gabriel!"
The only important thing, says Josette, is that you're well again.  You mean that, don't you? asks Melanie.  With all my heart, Josette assures her.  I'm so glad you are my friend, says Melanie--stay with me for a while?  As long as you want me to, Josette promises.  Why did you come here tonight? asks Melanie--it's terribly late--was I very ill?  For a while, admits Josette.  Then you were concerned about me, says Melanie.  Almost as if you were my very own, says Josette--oh, I'm so fond of you, and I hope you are of me, too.  Oh yes! says Melanie--I think I'm just very happy--no one's ever felt about me the way you do--I've never had the feeling anyone was concerned about me--not really being a member of this family--not deeply concerned--I guess I felt no one loved me--strange, I almost have the feeling that you do.  I most certainly do, says Josette, hugging her.

The Robservations references most of the quote, though not the "MUST" part - shameful...

And as a reminder, we've seen notations like "1841PT[-1967: Ep #263]" before and in this case it means that the quote should have come from 1967's Ep #263 but that ep doesn't have any "must" lines to quote from. So, with that in mind, it means that Ep #263 now joins Eps #1, #5, #8, #12, #13, #22, #24, #28, #120, #124, #136, #138, #139, #141, #189, #198, #210, #217, #219, #223, #258, #478, #659, #667, #690, #904, #1008 and #1087 as ones without any "must" lines.

[spoiler]June 25th's quote:
Ep #548 (1968) - Julia - 'We-- we MUST find her, now!'

From "Robservations 7/3/02 - #548/549 - Adam Proclaims His Lust"
548

The Robservations for Ep #548 doesn't summarize the teaser, which is a reworking of the ending of Ep #547, staged slightly differently, however, the quote didn't even appear originally because what Julia says in Ep #547 is "We-- we've got to find her, now!" so there's no need to share an excerpt from Ep #547's version...

[spoiler]June 26th's quote:
Ep #686 (1969) - Liz - 'And I MUST accept that as an answer?'

From "Robservations 10/11/02 - #686/687 - Ned Stewart Comes to Town"
In the drawing room, Liz comments how she hasn't felt the same in this room since the seance, hearing that woman warning them--there's been nothing but trouble since. Handing her a cup of tea, Barnabas asks Liz if he and Julia can examine some family information, including receipts and records--we want to check them out tonight. Liz finds his request odd, at this hour, but figures, hey, why not?--I suppose you have a reason. Barnabas asks to explain the reason afterwards. Liz wants to know what's happening in her own house--I fear something is terribly wrong.
Barnabas says sometimes one can't understand a story until the end comes. And I must accept that? asks Liz. Yes, say Barn and Julia. Liz sighs

The Robservations doesn't directly reference the quote but it does reference the circumstances under which it plays...

[spoiler]June 27th's quote:
Ep #800 (1897) - 'Victor' - 'I MUST maintain a certain innocence in order to be worthy of the beauty I constantly seek.'

From "Robservations 1/7/03 - #800-801/2 - Count Petofi - To Tell the Truth"
Old House - Petofi and Aristede are searching the drawing room for the hand when Quentin and Magda enter. "What's going on here?" demands Quentin. I think you already know that, responds Victor--I regret that I've been less than completely honest with you in the past, but sometimes, from the purest motives, one is forced to follow the most devious roots. I want to know those motives, says Quentin, and they had better be pure, or you won't leave alive. Please, says Victor, threats make me extremely uncomfortable--I'm sure we can conduct our business in a more pleasant manner. What business? asks Q. Yes, our odd methods aside, says Victor, this is a matter of business. You have something, I want it--the hand, and I've wanted it for a long time. Why? asks Quentin. Because it is unique in the entire world, says Victor, because I collect the unique and pursue anything that meets the standards I set, which is why I am the one person who shall have it--may I be completely honest?--once, I had the hand, I asked no more of it than was my due to ask. Why don't you have it now? asks Quentin. A good question, praises Victor--I owned the hand at one time, but if you don't know it, let me tell you that there are men who are unscrupulous, men who smile and steal easily--I who know so much about some things is a mere babe in arms about others, but I do not regret it--I must maintain a certain innocence in order to be worthy of the beauty I constantly seek. "We ain't got what you want," Magda says. I think you do, says Victor. No, says Quentin. She told you she doesn't, says Victor, she told you it disappeared before her startled gypsy eyes--one thing I've learned during my career is that every gypsy has a price--whatever that price may be, I will pay it. I'm telling the truth, insists Magda--we don't have it. I don't always trust the word of a gypsy, says Victor.

The Robservations references the quote perfectly...

If you don't want to know the circumstances surrounding June 28th's entry in this slideshow, then don't read any further...

[spoiler]June 28th's quote:
Ep #1027 (1970PT) - Barnabas - 'I am looking into the eyes of Angelique.  It is the truth of Angelique that I MUST know.'

From "#1026/1027: Robservations 07/18/03: Burning Eyes; Yaeger Stalks"
1027

The Robservations for Ep #1027 doesn't summarize the teaser, which is a reworking of the ending of Ep #1026, staged slightly differently. So, for what it's worth, here's an excerpt of how things play at the end of Ep #1026:

From "#1026/1027: Robservations 07/18/03: Burning Eyes; Yaeger Stalks"
Now Barnabas' eyes are superimposed upon Angelique's.  "It's the eyes of Angelique I'm looking into, he says--it is the truth of Angelique that I must know--come closer to me...closer...closer! "My eyes, stop looking at me!" screams Angelique, entering her room in a panic. She sees Barnabas standing there. "Why?" demands Barnabas, "because I see Angelique?"  "You!" she cries. "You know!" "Yes, Angelique, I KNOW!" he says, gazing at her triumphantly.

That Robservations references the quote perfectly as it plays in Ep #1026, but it plays a bit differently in Ep #1027, as reflected by the quote itself...

If you don't want to know the circumstances surrounding June 29th's entry in this slideshow, then don't read any further...

[spoiler]June 29th's quote:
Ep #855 (1897) - Beth - 'Oh, Quentin, you MUST wake up. Oh, Quentin, you've got to listen to me. They're trying to do something dreadful to you. And I don't know what it is. But you MUST wake up before it happens. Before it's too late!'

From "Robservations 3/19/03 - #854-855 - Body Snatcher"
Beth suddenly screams.  Be quiet! Aristede reminds her.  She covers her face with her hands, wailing, "No, I can't let you do anything to him, he does mean something to me, I still love him, and you can't take him from me!" She races out of the mill, Aristede calling, you can't go to him, you'll ruin everything. She races to Collinwood, finding Quentin asleep in a chair. She kneels and breathlessly says, "You must wake up, Quentin, listen to me, they're trying to do something dreadful to you, and I don't know what it is, but you must wake up before it happens, before it's too late!"
She shakes him, trying to rouse him, but he seems to be in a deep sleep from which he cannot be awakened.

The Robservations changes things up a bit but references the quote quite well...

The interesting thing is when the scene is restaged for the teaser of Ep #856, every "must" is changed to "got to." Shameful!!

If you don't want to know the circumstances surrounding June 30th's entry in this slideshow, then don't read any further...

[spoiler]June 30th's quote:
Ep #599 (1968) - Maggie - 'Joe MUST have told you that I wanted to see you.'

From "Robservations 8/9/02 - #598/599"
At the Evans cottage, Maggie surveys a black and white drawing of Barnabas, her face inscrutable. Barnabas and Willie knock on the door, both nervous. Maggie, looking pretty in blue and red, answers and greets them calmly. The men are afraid to come into the house, but Maggie cordially invites them in, her face neutral. She asks if something is wrong. Willie starts to speak. Barnabas shushes him, explaining to Maggie that he was surprised she wanted to see him. It's not important, she says, handing him the sketches Sam made before starting his portrait--she thought he'd want to have them. Barnabas grins, exchanges amazed (probably grateful) glances with Willie, and accepts them. Willie asks if that's all she wanted, and Maggie says that's it. Willie is glad to let the matter drop. She tells him she's glad he came over too, it's been a long time since she's seen him. Just HOW long? asks Willie, as Barnabas listens intently.
Three or four weeks, she says, and Willie nods and grins like a jack o lanterns. She tells him not to be a stranger--stop by anytime. Barnabas thanks her for the sketches. She's disappointed they won't stay for coffee. They leave the cottage, stunned. Willie doesn't get it, but Barn figures someone got to her before she got to the police, erasing her memory. Julia, suggests Willie. No, says Barn, she tried and failed--Nicholas Blair must have done it--he's the only one who could.

The Robservations doesn't reference the quote at all, but it comes up as Maggie greets Barnabas and Willie at the door...

If you don't want to know the circumstances surrounding July 1st's entry in this slideshow, then don't read any further...

[spoiler]July 1st's quote:
Ep #94 (1966) - Maggie - 'You MUST be loaded.'

From "#0093/0094: Robservations 07/26/01: Heartache for Maggie; Hope For Vicki"
Blue Whale - A drunken Sam calls the waiter over to order another drink. You promised me that would be your last! Says Maggie, annoyed. Next to last, says Sam, this will be the last one. He takes her hand. You said that three drinks ago, she complains--oh, I give up. I really need it very badly right now, he says--because of ghoulies and ghosties and long-legged beasties and things that go bump in the night. She smiles at him, accusing him of being loaded. Not yet, he assures her (after all that booze)? Then don't talk that way, you make me nervous, she says.

The Robservations doesn't reference the quote directly but comes pretty close to doing so...

And this is the 2nd quote from this ep. The first (Joe - 'You MUST take me for a prize sap') was back on May 23rd.
