If you don't want to know the circumstances surrounding May 18th's entry in this slideshow, then don't read any further...

[spoiler]May 18th's quote:
Ep #927 (1969) - Megan - 'You MUST hear! And you MUST accept. So MUST I. No matter how lonely it makes me.'

From "Robservations 5/6/03 - 926-927 - Michael Must Die!"
You don't even care what I did to Maggie Evans? he asks. Of course not, says Megan, but I do care that too many people notice you, asking questions. I like it when people notice me, he says petulantly. And they all will, promises Megan, at the right time, but it's not that time yet, and that's why, for your own good, something is going to happen you won't like at all. Going a little crazy, Michael covers his ears, screaming, I don't want to hear! You must hear! insists Megan, and you must accept--so must I, no matter how lonely it makes me. Michael's countenance takes on, for real, the look of a frightened little boy.

The Robservations references the quote perfectly...

And this is the second quote from this ep. The first (Philip - 'You MUST understand-- he's not like other children') was back on March 8th of 2022.

If you don't want to know the circumstances surrounding May 19th's entry in this slideshow, then don't read any further...

[spoiler]May 19th's quote:
Ep #1025 (1970PT) - Maggie - 'You MUST. You're her sister.'

From "#1024/1025: Robservations 07/17/03: First the Dress, Then Suicide"
if I'd stopped to think, I might not have been able to go through with it.  I'm sure no one had any idea anything was wrong, says Ang--it was very clever of you to say Quentin had suddenly taken ill. What else could I say? asks Maggie despairingly. All I mean is, if I'd been in your position, says Ang, I'd never have been able to carry it off. Roger says I didn't, says Maggie. "Roger!" says Angelique, her voice filled with disgust.  Maggie continues--Roger said the whole evening was a fiasco and SHE, Angelique, wouldn't have carried it off so badly--what hold did she have over these people?  I don't know, replies Angelique. You must, you're her sister! insists Maggie. She never had any hold over me, the other woman says--we were too different--she enchanted everyone, I resented that; besides, there's no reason to talk about Angelique. Yes there is, says Maggie, because wherever Quentin is, that's what he's thinking about--where could he go, dressed in that costume? Probably down on the beach, staring into the waves, says Ang, almost without thinking.  How do you know that? asks Maggie sharply. What? Angelique asks? I'm sure you're right, that's where he is, says Maggie--I found a letter Quentin wrote to Angelique, and in it, he spoke of staring at the sea for hours, listening to the waves

The Robservations references the quote perfectly...

And this is the fourth quote from this ep. The first (Hoffman - 'You MUST excuse me, I have a busy day tomorrow') was back on June 27th of 2021, the second (Maggie - 'He MUST know how, how terrible this is for me...is he so obsessed with Angelique that I don't matter at all?') was back on December 18th of 2022, and the third (Roger - 'You MUST have learned a lesson. No one can take Angelique's place. You know that. No one') was back on June 13th of 2023. So all that means that Ep #1025 has joined the club with Eps #2, #3, #42, #44, #50, #52, #54, #66, #106, #119, #133, #158, #195, #208, #211, #212, #296, #300, #308, #315, #340, #365, #367, #377, #384, #405, #410, #426, #449, #450, #462, #466, #479, #481, #503, #506, #518, #528, #534, #543, #544, #550, #608, #609, #629, #639, #643, #644, #646, #647, #651, #655, #678, #709, #717, #727, #734, #742, #743, #746, #750, #763, #764, #883, #884, #886, #889, #915, #926, #975, #976, #977, #993, #1006, #1011, #1014, #1057, #1064, #1081, #1111, #1125, #1126, #1127, #1128, #1197, #1199, #1206, #1218, #1223 and #1232. However, not only recall that Eps #42, #44, #52, #66, #133, #208, #211, #300, #367, #377, #384, #449, #466, #543, #550, #609, #629, #639, #646, #678, #709, #727, #734, #742, #746, #915, #977, #993, #1057, #1111, #1197 & #1218 have five quotes, but Eps #66, #377, #384, #449, #646, #727, #915 & #993 have six quotes.

If you don't want to know the circumstances surrounding May 20th's entry in this slideshow, then don't read any further...

[spoiler]May 20th's quote:
Ep #1089 (1970) - Liz - 'Julia, Julia, we MUST get the children out of this house tonight!'

From "#1089/1090: Robservations 09/03/03: Maggie, Attacked"
1089

The Robservations for Ep #1089 doesn't summarize the teaser, which is a reworking of the ending of Ep #1088, and though it's staged slightly differently (Gerard isn't bathed in green light in Ep #1089), despite what the summary for Ep #1088 indicates, the quote is exactly the same. So, for what it's worth, here's the Robservations summary from Ep #1088:

From "#1087/1088: Robservations 09/02/03: He's Got Liz!"
Liz runs downstairs, through the foyer and into the drawing room. "Julia," she cries, "we must get the children out of this house tonight!"
She flings open the doors and, standing there in the dark, is Gerard Stiles, looking straight at her.

And this is the second quote from this ep. The first (David - 'Oh, about how, how cruel and mean they were. They MUST have been in order to have been buried there') was back on April 18th of 2022.

If you don't want to know the circumstances surrounding May 21st's entry in this slideshow, then don't read any further...

[spoiler]May 21st's quote:
Ep #1150 (1840) - Quentin - 'Now we MUST maintain contact throughout. Understand?'

From "#1150/1151: Robservations 11/03/03: Gerard Gives Daphne Dreams"
Daphne and Quentin have set up the drawing room for a seance.  A red candle stands on the table.  He asks her if she's frightened.  She says she's not, but she doesn't think they should try to disturb the dead.  Sometimes the dead are already disturbed, he points out, and it takes the living to put them at peace.  They sit at the table across from each other, and he says they must touch hands and maintain contact throughout.  She understands.  Quentin calls out to seek the spirit of one known to each of them, one they have each loved in their own way--we beseech the spirit of Joanna Mills to appear to us, to communicate through one of them, so we may put an end to the troubles that have afflicted all of our lives--please, Joanna Mills, appear to us, or gives us a sign!  Thunder booms outside.

The Robservations doesn't references the quote directly but definitely references the quote's circumstances...

And this is the third quote from this ep. The first (Randall - 'I MUST. I MUST, there is an innocent woman dying in Rose Cottage') was back on May 11th of 2020, and the second (Randall - 'Someone at Collinwood MUST have a key. I'll go there and I'll be back here as soon as I can make it') was back on December 20th of 2023.

If you don't want to know the circumstances surrounding May 22nd's entry in this slideshow, then don't read any further...

[spoiler]May 22nd's quote:
Ep #1224 (1841PT) - Bramwell - 'I expected silence from the other members of the family, but not you. Now you MUST tell me.'

From "#1224/1225: Robservations 12/29/03: Kendrick Demands Answers"
Catherine totters over to a love seat and sits down.  Bramwell enters, closes the doors, comes in and sits beside her.  I heard about last night, he says.  Have you seen Morgan? she asks.  What happened to Morgan? asks Bramwell--I expected silence from other family members, but not you--you must tell me.  Catherine explains about the possession--they say he may never be himself again.  Is he sane? asks Bramwell.  He seems to be, says Catherine, but we can't know for sure.
I knew you would only find misery in this house, says Bramwell--if you had only come away with me yesterday, we'd have been able to start a whole new life.

The Robservations references the quote perfectly...

And this is the second quote from this ep. The first (Jamorg - 'Now I know now what I MUST do. And tonight I shall attend to it') was back on December 23rd.

If you don't want to know the circumstances surrounding May 23rd's entry in this slideshow, then don't read any further...

[spoiler]May 23rd's quote:
Ep #94 (1966) - Joe - 'You MUST take me for a prize sap.'

From "#0093/0094: Robservations 07/26/01: Heartache for Maggie; Hope For Vicki"
Let's dance, Joe almost orders Carolyn. Not now, I'm not in the mood, says Carolyn. I am! says Joe, come on, let's dance. All right, she agrees, and they leave the table. You didn't have to bark at me, she says, going into his arms. You must take me for a prize sap, he says--you don't think I know why you called me tonight? I told you why, several times to be exact, she says--because I wanted to see you. You're lying, says Joe, you called me for the same reason you called me before--because you're jealous of Vicki and Burke. That is ridiculous, she says. I don't think so, he says--you might not believe this, but I do have eyes and ears--I know what's going on. You can't call me a liar, Joe Haskell, says Carolyn, you or anybody else. You can't expect me to come crawling back every time Devlin isn't around, says Joe--you'd better start understanding that right now! All right, she says, pulling away from him, I've had enough--take me home. He forces her to look at him, telling her they're not going until she's heard what he has to say--and he's got plenty. TAKE ME HOME! she orders, her voice ragged--if you don't take me home, I'm going to walk! She grabs her coat and leaves the bar. Joe takes his and follows.
Maggie gets a hopeful half-smile on her face--perhaps this is the beginning of the end of Joe and Carolyn?

The Robservations references the quote perfectly...

And Ep #94 joins Eps #1088, #268, #162, #92 & #269 as the sixth example this month of Midnite serendipitously happening upon an ep that hadn't been quoted from before.

If you don't want to know the circumstances surrounding May 24th's entry in this slideshow, then don't read any further...

[spoiler]May 24th's quote:
Ep #791 (1897[-1967]) - Judith - 'No, no, you MUSTN'T leave me here. I don't like this place.'

From "Robservations 1/31/03 - #790-791 - Master of Collinwood!"
Tower room - Fearfully, Judith tells Trask, Minerva is going to do something to me--she thinks I stole from her--make her go away! Cries Judith, burying her face in her hands.  And at that very moment, Minerva fades away.  Look at me, Judith, says Trask.  She does--"She's gone!" cries Judith.  "Yes, and now I must go, too," says Trask.  "You can't leave me here," insists Judith--I don't like this place.

The Robservations paraphrases the quote (without using "MUST" - shameful!!) but gets the main points across...

And Gregory does indeed says that he "MUST" go, so that line may show up in a future installment of the slideshow.

And this is the second quote from this ep. The first (Evan - 'Spirit of darkness, I now dismiss you and you MUST do as I say for it is I who have summoned you. Disobey and I will smite you eternally with the blasting rod of the great Ariel and Jehovam. Begone') was back on November 28th of 2020.

If you don't want to know the circumstances surrounding May 25th's entry in this slideshow, then don't read any further...

[spoiler]May 25th's quote:
Ep #416 (1796) - Naomi - 'We MUST call her. Sarah! Sarah! She'll come running down the stairs, laughing-- through the doors, into my arms.'

From "#0415/0416: Robservations 03/27/02: Saddest Death of All"
She's glad Sarah died, she informs her husband, she was suffering so. He assures her he would have come home if he'd known, but she is in no mood to listen to him: "Daughter, son, wife--what do they mean to you?" she cruelly demands.

The Robservations doesn't reference the quote at all and barely even references the circumstances under which it's delivered. However, how things get to the quote is that after Naomi explains how much Sarah suffered and Joshua expresses that he can't believe Sarah's dead, Naomi says, "Yes. That's what we must do, not believe it. Pretend it never happened." And that prompts Joshua to say, "No, that's not what I meant." But Naomi picks up her thought by delivering the quote...

And, of course, the "MUST" quote in the above explanation may show up in a future installment of the slideshow.

And Ep #416 joins Eps #1088, #268, #162, #92, #269 & #94 as the seventh example this month of Midnite serendipitously happening upon an ep that hadn't been quoted from before. And that's not even the last time it will happen this month...

If you don't want to know the circumstances surrounding May 26th's entry in this slideshow, then don't read any further...

[spoiler]May 26th's quote:
Ep #792 (1897) - Aristede - 'You MUST stop. Stop!'

From "Robservations 2/3/03 - #792/793 - Angelique Meets Aristede"
She wraps the handkerchief around the figure.  Not so dapper as you, of course, says Ang, but definitely you--"Turn around and he'll call to you in your own voice--what's your name?"  "Aristede, at your service," he says, grandly bowing to her.  I like that, she says--turn around.  She wraps the handkerchief around the soldier's neck and calls, "Aristede!" in a girlish voice.   Aristede laughs--that isn't at all like my voice.  She agrees, her face changing from affable to crafty.  "But I did fool you," she says, tightening the red handkerchief around the soldier's throat, causing Aristede to choke.  What's happening?--what are you doing to me? he gasps.  Choking you, she says cruelly.  Stop! he begs, clutching his throat.  When I get the hand, she says.  This stuns him.  Give it quickly, she orders--any moment now, it will be too late.  She viciously twists the handkerchief around the soldier's throat. . .

The Robservations references part of the quote, but not the "MUST" part (shameful!!)...

And this is the second quote from this ep. The first (Quentin - 'Suppose we come to some arrangement. I keep the hand until it does what it MUST, and then, then I'll give it to you, huh?') was back on April 30th.

If you don't want to know the circumstances surrounding May 27th's entry in this slideshow, then don't read any further...

[spoiler]May 27th's quote:
Ep #544 (1968) - Prof. Stokes - 'Yes, yes, we MUST avoid arousing Dr. Hoffman's suspicions.'

From "Robservations 7/1/02 - Stokes Demands Answers - #544/545"
Outside the room, Carolyn tells Stokes Julia spotted his car outside and wondered where he was. She said he was in her mother's private library looking at a first edition of THE FEDERALIST. Stokes grows very excited-does Liz really have such a thing? Carolyn has no idea; she made it up. She tells him to go downstairs and he agrees; they can't rouse Julia's suspicions.

The Robservations doesn't reference the quote directly, but it does mention the circumstances surrounding it...

And this is the fifth quote from this ep. The first (Prof. Stokes - 'If anyone else discovers you, as Mrs. Johnson's son did yesterday, you MUSTN'T panic or be frightened') was back on July 29th of 2020, the second (Prof. Stokes - 'I MUST be more careful. There are times when even a momentary loss of self-control can be dangerous') was back on June 22nd of 2021, the third (Prof. Stokes - 'Learning MUST come first') was back on August 31st of 2022, and the fourth (Nicholas - 'I MUST find Dr. Lang's creation, the man called Adam-- only after I've found him can I avenge your suffering. I command you to lead me to him. Surely you MUST know where he is, each of you is a part of him') was back on October 2nd of 2022.

And this ep now shares the [milestone] of a fifth quote with Eps #42, #44, #52, #66, #133, #208, #211, #300, #367, #377, #384, #449, #466, #543, #550, #609, #629, #639, #646, #678, #709, #727, #734, #742, #746, #915, #977, #993, #1057, #1111, #1197 & #1218. However, recall that there's an even bigger because Eps #66, #377, #384, #449, #646, #727, #915 & #993 have six quotes...

If you don't want to know the circumstances surrounding May 28th's entry in this slideshow, then don't read any further...

[spoiler]May 28th's quote:
Ep #1225 (1841PT[-1967]) - Julia - 'Well then, you MUST not go back there.'

From "#1224/1225: Robservations 12/29/03: Kendrick Demands Answers"
Were you aware you were in some danger? she asks.  I am, he says.  Then you must not go back there, she insists.  I'll agree to that on one condition, he says--that someone goes to the cellar, gets the skeleton and makes sure she gets a proper burial--she deserves that much.  She? says Julia--who is she?
That much I don't mind telling you, he says sadly--Sarah Forsythe--she was my sister.

The Robservations references the quote almost perfectly...

And this is the third quote from this ep. The first (Kendrick - 'Melanie, I know, but I MUST know again just to be sure') was back on September 12th of 2021, and the second (Carrie - 'He said he knew she was down here someplace. That MUST be her') was back on August 7th of 2023.

If you don't want to know the circumstances surrounding May 29th's entry in this slideshow, then don't read any further...

[spoiler]May 29th's quote:
Ep #545 (1968) - Cassandra - 'No, it MUST be done as only another human being could do it.'

From "Robservations 7/1/02 - Stokes Demands Answers - #544/545"
Cassandra is listening to Lang's tape for the umpteenth time. She smiles as the music resumes, then turns off the recorder. She leaves the drawing room, weapon in hand, and goes to the West Wing, where Adam lies asleep. 2 AM - She finds the door locked, holds out her hand and opens it via witchcraft, with a gentle wave of her hand. She enters, gazes at Adam for a moment, and says to herself he must not die by magic or Nicholas will know she is responsible. She must kill him the human way-and so she raises an axe above his unsuspecting head.

The Robservations doesn't directly reference the quote, but it does reference its circumstances well...

And this is the fourth quote from this ep. The first (Cassandra - 'You MUST NOT die through magic--Nicholas would surely know that I was responsible') was back on May 29th of 2020, the second (Carolyn - 'But we MUST be more careful') was back on December 13th of 2022, and the third (Nicholas - 'You MUSTN'T worry about what other people think, Adam, and you needn't always do what other people want you to do. You MUST learn to be a strong-willed individual') was back on December 25th ([ChristmaS15]) of 2023. So all that means that Ep #545 has joined the club with Eps #2, #3, #42, #44, #50, #52, #54, #66, #106, #119, #133, #158, #195, #208, #211, #212, #296, #300, #308, #315, #340, #365, #367, #377, #384, #405, #410, #426, #449, #450, #462, #466, #479, #481, #503, #506, #518, #528, #534, #543, #544, #550, #608, #609, #629, #639, #643, #644, #646, #647, #651, #655, #678, #709, #717, #727, #734, #742, #743, #746, #750, #763, #764, #883, #884, #886, #889, #915, #926, #975, #976, #977, #993, #1006, #1011, #1014, #1025, #1057, #1064, #1081, #1111, #1125, #1126, #1127, #1128, #1197, #1199, #1206, #1218, #1223 and #1232. However, not only recall that Eps #42, #44, #52, #66, #133, #208, #211, #300, #367, #377, #384, #449, #466, #543, #544, #550, #609, #629, #639, #646, #678, #709, #727, #734, #742, #746, #915, #977, #993, #1057, #1111, #1197 & #1218 have five quotes, but Eps #66, #377, #384, #449, #646, #727, #915 & #993 have six quotes.

If you don't want to know the circumstances surrounding May 30th's entry in this slideshow, then don't read any further...

[spoiler]May 30th's quote:
Ep #793 (1897) - Petofi - 'Since our first attempt has failed, we MUST employ our alternate plan.'

From "Robservations 2/3/03 - #792/793 - Angelique Meets Aristede"
"Look at me" the man commands Aristede, and slaps him across the face--"You didn't get the hand, did you?"  I got it, says Aristede, terrified, but have it no longer--I swear to get it back.  The man asks, was a woman, assailant, or combination?  She was no ordinary woman, Victor, blathers Aristede--she possessed powers, and almost killed me.  Victor backs him up against a pillar and angrily says she SHOULD have killed you and spared ME your ineptitude.  Aristede vows to find her and get it back.  I will do it, says Victor--if that fails, we must employ our alternative plan.  That might not be necessary, says Aristede.  The hand is vitally important, says Victor--I suspect its power has already been used--am I correct?
Yes, says Aristede.

The Robservations references part of the quote quite well...

And Ep #793 joins Eps #1088, #268, #162, #92, #269, #94 & #416 as the seventh (and last) example this month of Midnite serendipitously happening upon an ep that hadn't been quoted from before.

(And I've already picked out all the eps for June (and half of August). And as you've seen, there have already been two days in June with alternate quotes because the ep from a given storyline didn't have any "MUST" quotes. And as you'll see this month, there are four instances where the ep I would have quoted from doesn't have a "MUST" quote - but more on that once we get into June's quotes. We still have one from May to deal with...)

If you don't want to know the circumstances surrounding May 31st's entry in this slideshow, then don't read any further...

[spoiler]May 31st's quote:
Ep #546 (1968) - Cassandra - 'But if I MUST die, so MUST you.'

From "Robservations 7/2/02 - Last-Ditch Efforts For Cass - #546/547"
"I have been told I wasted my time on you, and I think that's true. You have never known what I was thinking or feeling--why did I love you so much?--Nicholas says that I still do, that even dying, I love you." "Dying?" asks Barnabas suspiciously--"What do you mean by that?" She tells him she's been granted one of the privileges of being human--for once, he should understand, since he couldn't die either for so long. "We are both human tonight, Barnabas." "You are a witch," he says. "Not anymore," she says. "I have only until morning to live, that is my punishment--morning is coming so quickly. But if I must die. . ." she pulls a gun on him, "so must you." "No," he mutters.

The Robservations references the quote perfectly...

And this is the second quote from this ep. The first (Cassandra - 'Roger, you're keeping me from something I MUST do') was back on April 29th.

If you don't want to know the circumstances surrounding June 1st's entry in this slideshow, then don't read any further...

[spoiler]June 1st's quote:
DS 1991 Ep #4 (-1966: Ep #28) - Sara's Writing - 'Oh, my brother, you MUST stop your plans for the young girl with the dark hair or else she and you are in terrible danger.'

From SHADOWS IN THE '90s: The Dark Shadows Concordance 1991 - PLOT SUMMARIES - EPISODE FOUR
OLD HOUSE: Barnabas discovers Sara's diary lying on a
table and coldly asks Willie why it's there - he put it in his
desk. Willie agrees - why is it there? Barnabas, exasperated,
"That's why I'm asking you, Willie!" Willie doesn't know -
"You sure you didn't put it there?" Barnabas, coldly, "Yes, I
am." Barnabas sets the diary down on a table near the win-
dow, then asks if the wine is chilled in preparation for
Victoria's visit. Willie answers, "It's real cold." The window
bursts open and a wind blows the pages open. The fire flares.
Willie, terrified, "Jeez! What's happening now?" He manages
to get the window shut and they go to the diary. A new entry
is appearing, letters forming before their eyes warning Bar-
nabas to stay away from the girl with the dark hair or they're
both in danger. Willie bursts out this has to be a message from
Sara - "It's talking about you and Vicki, ain't it! It's telling you
to stay away from Vicki. It's a message from your little sister
Sara!" Barnabas shoves Willie against the wall. Enraged,
shouting, "Don't you ever mention Sara's name! Ever!" Willie
tearfully claims he doesn't want anything to happen to Vicki -
"or to you either." Barnabas relents and straightens Willie's
clothing. I know you mean well." He assures him nothing is
going to happen - either to him or Miss Winters...

The summary doesn't address the quote directly, but it does reference its circumstances quite well...

And as I've done previously when it comes to the '91 Series, I used a screen capture from the TGG Direct DVD release that's the same dimensions as the ones from the original series -

- because even though that release also doesn't have the correct color timing like the VHS release does -

- also like the VHS release, it has the correct aspect ratio, plus it even tends to show a bit more of the frame and it's clearer than the VHS.

And even though the MGM DVD release, like the TGG Direct release, tends to be clearer than the VHS, frustratingly, the aspect ratio is cropped from 4X3 to 16X9 -

And just a reminder, we've seen notations like "DS 1991 Ep #4 (-1966: Ep #28)" before and in this case it means that the quote should have come from 1966's Ep #28 but that ep doesn't have any "must" lines to quote from. So, with that in mind, it means that Ep #28 now joins Eps #1, #5, #8, #12, #13, #22, #24, #120, #124, #136, #138, #139, #141, #189, #198, #210, #217, #219, #223, #478, #659, #667, #690, #904 and #1008 as ones without any "must" lines.
