If you don't want to know the circumstances surrounding today's entry in this slideshow, then don't read any further...

[spoiler]Today's quote:
Ep #268 (1967) - Carolyn - 'Well, it MUST be in your thoughts.'

From "#0267/0268: Robservations 12/03/01: Will Liz Take a Dive?"
Drawing room - Liz waits for Carolyn, who defiantly comes in and says she's been out with Buzz. While Carolyn thumbs through a magazine, Liz explains to her that she's her mother's whole life, and she has never stopped loving Carolyn. Carolyn would like to believe her, but knows Jason is the cause of their problems, and can't comprehend why Liz is marrying him.

The Robservations falls in the period where there's little detail and the quote isn't referenced. However, after the subject of Liz' impending marriage to Jason comes up, Liz says that she'd rather not talk about the wedding, though Carolyn pushes things by delivering the quote while she's thumbing through the magazine. But Liz replies that it's Carolyn who is in her thoughts...

And Ep #268 joins Eps #162 & #92 as the third example this month of Midnite serendipitously happening upon an ep that hadn't been quoted from before.

If you don't want to know the circumstances surrounding today's entry in this slideshow, then don't read any further...

[spoiler]Today's quote:
Ep #414 (1796) - Barnabas - 'You MUST be home. You MUST go home.'

From "#0413/0414: Robservations 03/26/02: Barnabas Visits the Docks"
Barnabas enters the mausoleum and is startled when Sarah pops up and joyfully calls him. He tries to keep his back to her as she begs her big brother to take her home; she's so tired! He tries to tell her he can't, and she can't tell anyone she saw him, but when he turns and she sees his bloody mouth, she cries, "You aren't Barnabas!" and runs from him. "Oh no," moans Barnabas, realizing dawn is upon him.

The Robservations doesn't reference the quote, however, it comes up after Sarah tells Barnabas she fell asleep and before she asks him to take her home and says that she's so sleepy...

And this is the third quote from this ep. The first (Millicent - 'Oh, no, no, you MUSTN'T') was back on February 4th, and the second (Barnabas - 'Oh, you MUSTN'T tell anyone') was back on March 24th.

If you don't want to know the circumstances surrounding today's entry in this slideshow, then don't read any further...

[spoiler]Today's quote:
Ep #542 (1968) - Carolyn(reading) - '`The widest land, doom takes to part us, leaves thy heart in mine with pulses that beat double. What I do and what I dream include thee, as the wine MUST taste of its own grapes. And when I sue God for myself, He hears that name of thine, and sees within my eyes the tears of two.`'

From "Robservations 6/28/02 - #542/543 Nicholas Warns, Cassandra Plots"
she encourages him to sit and eat. No, he says, then recites, "The widest land.  Doom takes two." He shows her a book he was reading, and she glances at it. She reads, "The widest land, doom takes to part us, leaves thy heart and mine with pulses that beat double." It's a romantic poem, for sure, and she reads more as Adam listens intently, love in his eyes.
She asks if he read this and is astonished how far he's come from reading simple sentences. Alone, he reads, he says, and she expresses pride in his accomplishment. He is very happy to have made her proud and giggles, embarrassed. He asks what the words mean, and she says it's a poem, a love sonnet. Adam repeats "Love sonnet," and asks what it means. She says it's written by a woman telling a man how much she loves him. "Woman loves man?" asks Adam. Yes, says Carolyn, looking uncomfortable. She slaps the book closed and says, "Class is dismissed." She urges him to eat, and he touches her shoulder and turns her to face him. He touches her hair, gazes at her longingly, says her name. She's unnerved and tells him not to do that.

The Robservations references half of the quote...

And this is the second quote from this ep. The first (Mrs. Johnson - 'MUST have been the West Wing') was back on April 18th.

[spoiler]Today's quote:
Ep #654 (1969) - Julia - 'Well then, Barnabas MUST have.'

From "Robservations 9/19/02 - #654/655 - Joe Unhinged"
Julia bandages Joe up--you're lucky you weren't hurt worse, she remarks--the police will want to speak to you--Barnabas must have called them Julia. Joe doesn't want the cops involved; it didn't help when Liz called them. That animal is on the loose, says Julia, and might attack someone else--tonight. I stabbed him with a scissors, says Joe, and while I don't think I killed him. . . Julia thinks they should call the sheriff.

The Robservations doesn't reference the quote directly but does reference its circumstances quite well...

And this is the second quote from this ep. The first (Chris - 'There MUST be something stronger--there has to be!') was back on August 23rd of 2021.

If you don't want to know the circumstances surrounding May 7th's entry in this slideshow, then don't read any further...

[spoiler]May 7th's quote:
Ep #789 (1897) - Judith - 'But you MUST see her. She's there... in that chair.'

From "Robservations 1/30/03 - #788-789 - Quentin Gets a Break, Gaslighting Judith"
I'd like to speak to Judith alone, says Trask, and escorts his wife into the drawing room. She sits down, he sits beside her and asks--tell me why you lied to Edward?--I can see something is wrong in your eyes. She confesses, a few moments ago, in my room, I saw Minerva's spirit in the corner of my room. He smiles quickly, then says--it had to be your imagination--even if spirits were possible, Minerva's never would, she was kind and tolerant, and I'm sure that, wherever she is now, she looks upon our union with the greatest of joy. He clasps her hand. I suppose so, says Judith. Now you know how I feel  about liquor, says Trask, but a little brandy might be just what you need right now. He gets up to pour her one to calm her nerves. Judith says, "Minerva is here again, on the other side of the room." Trask looks where Judith directed and sees Minerva sitting in a chair, doing needlepoint. Trask, of course, claims no one is there--no one in the room but us. "But you must see it," insists Judith, upset. "She's there in that chair!" It's all in your mind, says Trask. It can't be, wails Judith. Look at me, orders Trask--remember what I said earlier about being afraid. I remember, says Judith, clearly terrified. For some reason, continues Trask, the memory of Minerva is dominating your thoughts, when you should be thinking about us and our future together
--if you think about THAT, everything will be all right, he assures her--it's what you want, right? Yes, very much, says Judith.

The Robservations references the quote perfectly...

And this is the third quote from this ep. The first (Gregory - 'If this spirit is a danger to us, it MUST be silenced') was back on February 25th, and the second (Gregory - 'Now, you MUST not be afraid, Judith. You MUST not be afraid') was back on March 31st.

If you don't want to know the circumstances surrounding May 8th's entry in this slideshow, then don't read any further...

[spoiler]May 8th's quote:
Ep #926 (1969) - Barnabas - 'I MUST find the strength to fight this but I need time. I MUST stall everything until I find the answer.'

From "Robservations 5/6/03 - 926-927 - Michael Must Die!"
Barnabas calls up to Megan. This thing is getting out of hand, he tells himself--I'm losing control!--I must find a way out of this, but how?--why is it there are moments I doubt everything I'm doing, and other times I'm sure the cause is so right? How did I get to be this way?--it began when I opened the Leviathan box, when I opened it, I surrendered my will--I can't go on this way, seeing people hurt, people I know and love--I must find the strength to fight this, but I need time, I must stall everything until I find the answer. Megan comes down

The Robservations references the quote perfectly...

And this is the fourth quote from this ep. The first (Philip - 'You MUST not be protective about Michael now!) was back on April 27th of 2020, the second (Megan - 'His is the only way. His cause MUST be served') was back on September 25th of 2020, and the third (Philip - 'Then he MUST have gotten out of here in another way') was back on October 4th of 2023. So all that means that Ep #926 has joined the club with Eps #2, #3, #42, #44, #50, #52, #54, #66, #106, #119, #133, #158, #195, #208, #211, #212, #296, #300, #308, #315, #340, #365, #367, #377, #384, #405, #410, #426, #449, #450, #462, #466, #479, #481, #503, #506, #518, #528, #534, #543, #544, #550, #608, #609, #629, #639, #643, #644, #646, #647, #651, #655, #678, #709, #717, #727, #734, #742, #743, #746, #750, #763, #764, #883, #884, #886, #889, #915, #975, #976, #977, #993, #1006, #1011, #1014, #1057, #1064, #1081, #1111, #1125, #1126, #1127, #1128, #1197, #1199, #1206, #1218 and #1232. However, not only recall that Eps #42, #44, #52, #66, #133, #208, #211, #300, #367, #377, #384, #449, #466, #550, #609, #629, #639, #646, #678, #709, #727, #734, #742, #746, #915, #977, #993, #1057, #1111, #1197 & #1218 have five quotes, but Eps #66, #377, #384, #449, #646, #727, #915 & #993 have six quotes.

If you don't want to know the circumstances surrounding May 9th's entry in this slideshow, then don't read any further...

[spoiler]May 9th's quote:
Ep #1024 (1970PT) - Angelexis - 'Oh, but you MUST. You'll be meeting most of these people tonight for the very first time.'

From "#1024/1025: Robservations 07/17/03: First the Dress, Then Suicide"
Angelique looks at Hoffman's watch--it's getting late, she observes--are you sure Maggie is going to come?  Positive, says Hoffman.  I hate leaving things to chance, complains Angelique. Mrs. Stoddard told her to, points out Hoffman. Chance and Mrs. Stoddard are identical twins, remarks Ang. There's a knock at the door. Come in! calls Angelique.  When Maggie enters, Angelique is holding the lavender gown against herself, asking Hoffman--do you think I should wear this one?--do you think the color suits me?--what do you think, Maggie?  I think it's very pretty, says Maggie.  Then I'll wear it, says Ang, handing it to Hoffman. You have so many dresses here, observes Maggie. Have you chosen one yet? asks Angelique. Not yet, says Maggie. Please help yourself, there are some beautiful things, encourages Angelique. Hoffman smiles--may I be excused?--I have things to attend to downstairs. Yes, and thanks so much, says Ang.
After Hoffman leaves, Angelique tells Maggie, Hoffman really is invaluable--she ironed everything in the trunk, so you can wear what you like. I don't really care that much, says Maggie. But you must, protests Angelique, you'll be meeting some of these people for the very first time tonight. I think I'd rather wear my own clothes, says Maggie. Darling, you can't, it's always been a costume party, Ang reminds her. Yes, I know, says Maggie with irony. Ang hands Maggie an orange gown--how do you like this? she asks. Maggie holds it against herself and looks in the mirror.  It's all wrong, insists Ang.  Do you think so?--I think it's rather pretty, comments Maggie. I'll find something better, says Ang. Were you ever in the states after Quentin married Angelique? asks Maggie. Of course, says Ang.  Did you ever attend one of these parties? Maggie asks. No, says "Alexis"--Angelique would never have asked me. Why not? asks Maggie. Actually, says Ang, we didn't get on, and she didn't like having other women around, especially one that looked exactly like her. She picks up the gown she intended for Maggie.  It's pretty, says the latter.  I'm not sure it's right for you, says Ang--perhaps it is. Maggie holds that gown against herself--I like it, she says.  You should wear it, says Angelique. I wonder how many beautiful women wore this dress? Muses Maggie. You will wear it as they did, flatters Angelique. Maggie thanks her, a huge grin on her face. Angelique is smiling, too, a nasty grin.

The Robservations references the quote quite well, though not perfectly...

And this is the screen capture for the quote:

And this is the second quote from this ep. The first (Maggie - 'I was asleep last night when you came home, I guess. You MUST have gotten up very early') was back on November 27th of 2021.

If you don't want to know the circumstances surrounding May 10th's entry in this slideshow, then don't read any further...

[spoiler]May 10th's quote:
Ep #1088 (1970) - Quentin - 'If Julia followed me now, what will I say? I don't care, I MUST see her.'

From "#1087/1088: Robservations 09/02/03: He's Got Liz!"
Quentin goes to Daphne's room--why did I come here again? he wonders--didn't last night teach me it isn't safe?--if Julia's followed me now, what will I say?--I don't care, I must see her. He enters the room and finds the rope lying on the floor. Was this here before?--why don't I remember?--Is Julia right, are Daphne and Gerard. . .

The Robservations references the quote perfectly...

And this is the screen capture for the quote:

And Ep #1088 joins Eps #268, #162 & #92 as the fourth example this month of Midnite serendipitously happening upon an ep that hadn't been quoted from before.

If you don't want to know the circumstances surrounding May 11th's entry in this slideshow, then don't read any further...

[spoiler]May 11th's quote:
Ep #1149 (1840) - Barnabas - 'You MUST take her upstairs to a bedroom, and then find a cross.'

From "#1148/1149: Robservations 10/30/03: Rescue; A Sibling Horrorshow"
Barnabas calls to Flora and Desmond, asking if anyone is home.  He's supporting Julia, who is wavering dangerously, and tells Randall and Flora he found her in the abandoned lighthouse.  Flora examines Julia and sees her neck.  Take her upstairs to a bedroom, orders Barnabas, and find a cross.  Flora asks why a cross.  I can't explain it to you now, says Barnabas

The Robservations references the quote almost perfectly...

And this is the third quote from this ep. The first (Flora - 'Oh Lamar, you MUST be mistaken about Quentin. The very idea of Quentin bewitching anybody is almost amusing!') was back on March 20th of 2021, and the second (Roxanne - 'She MUST remain here.) was back on March 27th.

If you don't want to know the circumstances surrounding May 12th's entry in this slideshow, then don't read any further...

[spoiler]May 12th's quote:
Ep #1223 (1841PT) - Julia - 'Well, where did he go? He MUST be somewhere in the house. We've got to find him.'

From "#1222/1223: Robservations 12/24/03: Morgan is Possessed"
Julia, hearing Catherine banging on the door, begging for anyone to let her out, releases Catherine from the bedroom.  Catherine tells her that Morgan locked her in when her back was turned.  Where did he go? asks Julia--he must be somewhere in the house--we've got to find him.  Catherine says she doubts he's in the house--he was talking about the cottage over there--he seemed very interested in it, but wouldn't tell her why.  Julia says they should go, and the women leave the room.

The Robservations references the quote almost perfectly...

And this is the fourth quote from this ep. The first (Jamorg - 'My mind is functioning quite well. But I MUST admit one thing, my body is tired') was back on October 19th of 2020, the second (Jamorg - 'I'm sorry, Mrs. Collins, but I do not like to be spied on. I MUST have my privacy') was back on June 6th, and the third (Melanie - 'But there MUST have been hundreds of other children at that orphanage. Why did he choose me?') was back on August 28th of 2024. So all that means that Ep #1223 has joined the club with Eps #2, #3, #42, #44, #50, #52, #54, #66, #106, #119, #133, #158, #195, #208, #211, #212, #296, #300, #308, #315, #340, #365, #367, #377, #384, #405, #410, #426, #449, #450, #462, #466, #479, #481, #503, #506, #518, #528, #534, #543, #544, #550, #608, #609, #629, #639, #643, #644, #646, #647, #651, #655, #678, #709, #717, #727, #734, #742, #743, #746, #750, #763, #764, #883, #884, #886, #889, #915, #926, #975, #976, #977, #993, #1006, #1011, #1014, #1057, #1064, #1081, #1111, #1125, #1126, #1127, #1128, #1197, #1199, #1206, #1218 and #1232. If you don't want to know the circumstances surrounding May 13th's entry in this slideshow, then don't read any further...

[spoiler]May 13th's quote:
Ep #93 (1966) - David - 'I think, uh, Mr. Malloy's ghost picked Miss Winters to appear to because she MUST know something about how he died.'

From "#0093/0094: Robservations 07/26/01: Heartache for Maggie; Hope For Vicki"
has the ghost told you to ask Miss Winters to stay on here? No, says David, she saw it--she's the only one who did see it--and if she stays here, the ghost might come again, but if she leaves, the ghost might leave, too, and I want to see it! Such things do not exist, says Roger. If they don't exist, says David, how did Miss Winters see it? She was dreaming, says Roger, there are no such things as ghosts. There are, too, I've seen them before, says David, and I wasn't dreaming, I was wide awake
--I think Mr. Malloy's ghost picked Miss Winters to appear to because she must know something about how he died. He slipped, fell in the water and drowned, says Roger with a hint of anger, rising from the chair. No he didn't, says David--the ghost said so--the ghost told Miss Winters somebody killed him, somebody in Collinsport, and if she stays here, I think Mr. Malloy's ghost might come back--and this time, he might tell her who killed him--David stands and faces his father--he might even tell her YOU killed him. Roger slaps David across the face. The boy runs to the door, gazing with hatred at his father. Where are you going? Roger asks him, but David runs off, Roger in pursuit, ordering him to come back.

The Robservations references the quote almost perfectly...

And this is the second quote from this ep. The first (Liz - 'You MUSTN'T jump to conclusions') was back on August 8th of 2020.

If you don't want to know the circumstances surrounding May 14th's entry in this slideshow, then don't read any further...

[spoiler]May 14th's quote:
Ep #269 (1967) - Vicki - 'There MUST be another way out.'

From "#0269/0270: Robservations 12/04/01: On With the Wedding?!"
Liz stands on Widows' Hill, agonizing over taking the jump. She paces. Just as she's gotten the courage to jump, Vicki, screaming, stops her. My life is hopeless, insists Liz, sitting down on a rock--I've betrayed everyone.

Because this is within the period where the Robservations have little detail, the quote isn't referenced at all. However, after Liz sits down on the rock, Vicki pleads with Liz to come back to the house, but Liz insists she can't ever go back because there's nothing left for her. Liz then insists that she has to go through with it. Vicki protests that she doesn't, and after that is when Vicki delivers the quote...

And Ep #269 joins Eps #1088, #268, #162 & #92 as the fifth example this month of Midnite serendipitously happening upon an ep that hadn't been quoted from before.

If you don't want to know the circumstances surrounding May 15th's entry in this slideshow, then don't read any further...

[spoiler]May 15th's quote:
Ep #415 (1796) - Barnabas - 'Ben, come. I MUST know about Sarah. I MUST know. Ben!'

From "#0415/0416: Robservations 03/27/02: Saddest Death of All"
Mausoleum - Barnabas frets about Sarah--should he risk going to Collinwood? Ben finally shows up and tells him how sick Sarah is. Barnabas blames himself--if Sarah hadn't seen him. . .

The Robservations has little detail for the scene and it doesn't reference the quote. However, it does reference the circumstances under which the quote is delivered...

And this is the 2nd quote from this ep. The first (Millicent - 'You MUST care about yourself for all our sakes') was back on April 16th.

If you don't want to know the circumstances surrounding May 16th's entry in this slideshow, then don't read any further...

[spoiler]May 16th's quote:
Ep #543 (1968) - Harry - 'My mother told me that you lock up this part of the house and I figured you MUST have had a reason. And I wanted to know what that reason was.'

From "Robservations 6/28/02 - #542/543 Nicholas Warns, Cassandra Plots"
Carolyn goes outside to Harry, standing and thinking for a long time. He tells her it's lucky for him she came or he'd be dead. Harry admits he figured Carolyn had a reason for locking the West Wing, and confesses to picking the lock. Carolyn is tempted to turn him over to the cops, but he reminds her what he knows, that the police are looking for Adam. He could pick up a nice piece of change-unless she makes it worth his while.
Blackmail? She asks. An ugly word, says Harry, preferring to call it an exchange of favors. He asks for five grand to keep her secret, and she says she'll give him exactly. . .nothing. They dicker. She knows about his record, so she can send him back to prison-if she wants to. Harry knows she's got him by the short hairs, and asks what happens now. She needs help with Adam, and Harry will bring him food and help keep her secret.

The Robservations doesn't reference the quote but at least it does reference the circumstances under which the quote is delivered...

And this is the fifth quote from this ep. The first(Nicholas - 'He will not be destroyed. Adam MUST live') was back on September 23rd of 2020, the second (Cassandra - 'My curse MUST continue') was back on February 10th of 2021, the third (Carolyn - 'You MUSTN'T harm him') was back on October 9th of 2021, and the fourth (Carolyn - 'You MUST promise me that you'll never try to harm anyone again') was back on October 19th of 2022.

And this ep now shares the [milestone] of a fifth quote with Eps #42, #44, #52, #66, #133, #208, #211, #300, #367, #377, #384, #449, #466, #550, #609, #629, #639, #646, #678, #709, #727, #734, #742, #746, #915, #977, #993, #1057, #1111, #1197 & #1218. However, recall that there's an even bigger because Eps #66, #377, #384, #449, #646, #727, #915 & #993 have six quotes...

If you don't want to know the circumstances surrounding May 17th's entry in this slideshow, then don't read any further...

[spoiler]May 17th's quote:
Ep #790 (1897) - Gregory - 'Judith, I MUST. For your own sake.'

From "Robservations 1/31/03 - #790-791 - Master of Collinwood!"
Judith hears the creaking rocker again, and turns to listen.  You aren't paying attention to me, says Trask.  Make her stop rocking! begs Judith.   No one is rocking, says Trask.  Yes she is! cries Judith, can't you hear her?-- "Listen, please listen!" she begs.  Trask heads for the door--I can't bear talking to you like this, he says, it breaks my heart--Edward is planning terrible things and you can't even concentrate on what it means to both of us.  Her voice filled with tears, Judith says, I CAN concentrate, I will listen, if you make her go away--she'll do it for you, you're her husband!  Trask says, "Judith, I am YOUR husband."  Then don't leave me, she begs.  He pries the key from her hand.  "I must," he says, "for your own sake."  He locks her in the bedroom as she screams and pleads, "Don't leave me alone with her--don't lock me in!  "Do I hear Judith Collins begging?" he asks.  Judith bangs on the door, pleading to be let out.  He smiles.  I will pray for you, he says.  He leaves.  Judith turns away from the door to see Minerva sitting and rocking, rocking, rocking...

The Robservations references the quote perfectly...

And this is the second quote from this ep. The first (Quentin - 'You MUSTN'T be afraid of your own brother') was back on April 19th.
