And when it comes to Reply #2324 for today's entry in the slideshow, I don't currently have access to my '91 VHS tapes, so the screen capture from Ep #10 will have to wait to be posted until after I do...

[pointing-up]  I forgot to also mention that the summary of the scene will have to wait until I once again have access to my 1991 Concordance...

If you don't want to know the circumstances surrounding today's entry in this slideshow, then don't read any further...

[spoiler]Today's quote:
NoDS: Scene #88 (-1967: Ep #145) - Alex - 'Gregory strikes again! He MUST think we're the manor folk.'

From both Grayson's and DC's NoDS scripts:

There are two slightly different ways that Scene 88 is setup, depending on whose script one is reading. Grayson's sets things up thusly, beginning at the bottom of page 37:

                                             CUT TO:

88     INT - DINING ROOM - NIGHT - GROUP SHOT           88

Seen from the corridor as the CAMERA TRUCKS TOWARD
THEM.  They have finished dinner and are on their
       coffee.

88     CONTD                                  CONTD    88

Whereas in DC's script he has handwritten at the top of page 38:

       INT. CORRIDOR NIGHT  - TRUCKING
        Camera truck toward dining
room - they have finished dinner
88     CONTD                                  CONTD    88

And in both cases that's when today's quote comes up in the script -

                              ALEX
                        (gesturing to Claire)
Will you look at that dress?  Gregory
strikes again! He must think we're
the manor folk -- honey, remember,
                  we're broke.

Quentin looks TOWARD CAMERA as if it were Carlotta,
       who just entered the room.

                             QUENTIN
                 What's that?
INT. DINING ROOM - NIGHT

       CARLOTTA

Having just ENTERED the room, she holds a gift-
       wrapped package.

                             TRACY O.S.
                 It's our surprise.

WIDEN as Carlotta crosses to Quentin and gives him
       the package.

                             QUENTIN
                 What is it?

He starts to rip the paper.

                             TRACY
                 Something you can't be without?

He draws out a riding habit.

                            QUENTIN
                You've got to be kidding.

       Alex ROARS with laughter.

                            TRACY
Gregory said I can return it.

Quentin starts to laugh and gets up crossing to
       Tracy.

                            QUENTIN
                No...NO...
                        (He kisses Tracy lightly)
I'll get around to wearing it
                sooner or later --'

End of excerpt but not end of scene.

And the dialogue in the scene is a bit different here and there, plus there's extra dialogue added. However, the quote is delivered as scripted.

And similar to hoDS, I used a screen capture from the Laser Disc for NoDS -

- so that it would be in keeping with the dimensions of the screen captures from the original show, but this is what the Blu-ray looks like -

And Ep #145 now joins Eps #1, #5, #8, #12, #13, #22, , #24, #120, #124, #136, #138, #139, #141, #189, #198, #210, #217, #219, #223, #478, #659, #667, #690, #904 and #1008 as ones without any "must" lines.

If you don't want to know the circumstances surrounding today's entry in this slideshow, then don't read any further...

[spoiler]Today's quote:
Ep #1199 (1841PT[-1967: Ep #242]) - Flora - 'Julia, you MUST burn this. Promise me that.'

From "#1199/1200: Robservations 12/09/03: The Woman in White"
that man's name is Trask--she opens a wallet she found on the body.  It must be one of the Trasks that owns the bakery, says Flora (a real cream puff Trask, eh?), taking the wallet--we must destroy this--she looks through it, sees Lamar Trask, and says I know no Lamar Trask.  I don't understand it, says Julia--look at his business card (did they have those back then?)--it says he's an undertaker with a chapel on Front Street.  There is no funeral chapel there, says Flora.  Perhaps he had just come to town, suggests Julia, perhaps he was planning on starting one.  He wouldn't have cards printed first, says Flora--you must burn this, promise me that.  It's almost funny, isn't it, says Julia--an undertaker, buried by two women, in the field?

The Robservations references the quote almost perfectly...

And of course, we've seen notations like "(1841PT[-1967])" before and know it means that an 1841PT quote has been substituted for what should have been a 1967 quote. But this time around "(1841PT[-1967: Ep #242])" means all that plus that the quote should have come from 1967's Ep #242 but that ep doesn't have any "must" lines to quote from. So, with that in mind, it means that Ep #242 now joins Eps #1, #5, #8, #12, #13, #22, , #24, #120, #124, #136, #138, #139, #141, #145, #189, #198, #210, #217, #219, #223, #478, #659, #667, #690, #904 and #1008 as ones without any "must" lines.

[spoiler]Today's quote:
Ep #415 (1796) - Millicent - 'You MUST care about yourself for all our sakes.'

From "#0415/0416: Robservations 03/27/02: Saddest Death of All"
The following day, Naomi sits at her very sick daughter's bedside.  Although Millicent tries to convince her that Sarah looks better and Naomi should drink her tea and keep up her own strength, Naomi isn't buying either; the medicine the doctor left hasn't helped, and she knows the child has pneumonia, even if the doctor is too kind to say so.

The Robservations doesn't reference the quote, but it does reference the circumstances under which it's delivered...

If you don't want to know the circumstances surrounding April 17th's entry in this slideshow, then don't read any further...

[spoiler]April 17th's quote:
Ep #542 (1968) - Mrs. Johnson - 'MUST have been the West Wing.'

From "Robservations 6/28/02 - #542/543 Nicholas Warns, Cassandra Plots"
Harry finds his mother straightening out the drawing room. He tells her the high and mighty Carolyn will be giving her static about him-he didn't do anything, but when he went looking for Carolyn, she was angry at him for being upstairs. Mrs. J tells him to listen to Carolyn, and he describes Carolyn's exit from the West Wing, which she locked behind her. Mrs. J says the West Wing is always kept locked, per Mrs. Stoddard's orders. She doesn't know why, but it's off-limits. Why was Carolyn there? wonders Harry, but Mrs. J says it's none of his business.
Harry ponders what could be so secret about it, and she says she doesn't know and doesn't ask questions, and if he's going to stay there, he'd better do the same.

The Robservations doesn't reference the quote, but it does reference the circumstances under which it's delivered...

[spoiler]April 18th's quote:
Ep #683 (1968) - Barnabas - 'Well, the woman MUST have brought us to it for a reason. And whatever she wanted us to find out MUST be in that coffin.'

From "Robservations 10/9/02 - #682/683 - Beth Gives Amy a Gift"
Barnabas and Chris unearth a grisly find--a child's coffin. The lift it from the unmarked grave. We should open it, says Barnabas--the woman brought you there for a reason and that coffin must be why. Chris uses the shovel to open the small coffin and opens it

The Robservations doesn't reference the quote directly, but it does reference the circumstances under which it's delivered...

[spoiler]Today's quote:
Ep #790 (1897) - Quentin - 'You MUSTN'T be afraid of your own brother.'

From "Robservations 1/31/03 - #790-791 - Master of Collinwood!"
Quentin returns to Collinwood at midnight.  He wanders into the drawing room, not knowing where he is or why he came here.  Who am I? he asks himself--I don't know that or this place--why am I here?  He meanders to the gramophone and plays the music, listening to it. Judith hears the music downstairs and leaves the room.  Quentin is reciting "Shadows of the Night," out loud.  Judith comes in.  He turns, revealing his disfigured face.  She screams.  "Judith, be quiet," he warns her, taking her arm.  Who are you and how do you know me? she demands.  "I am Quentin," he says.  Not believing him, she tries to leave, but he grabs her arm.  Don't get anyone, he asks.  Let go of me, she says, I'm afraid.  Don't be afraid of your own brother, he says--I am Quentin.  You're not! she says.  I want help, he says, they're after me.  Who? she asks.  The police, he answers.  I don't get it, she says--who you are, how you know me, why you're here.  "Because it's my home!" he insists, "I am Quentin!"
She backs away and turns around to find Minerva holding up a letter opener, ready to stab her!

Again, the Robservations doesn't reference the quote directly, but it does reference the circumstances under which it's delivered...

[spoiler]Today's quote:
Ep #928 (1970) - Megan - 'Oh, please darling, darling, you MUSTN'T be frightened!'

From "Robservations 5/7/03 - #928-929 - Michael Returns; Paul in Too Deep "
928

The Robservations for Ep #928 doesn't summarize the teaser, which is a reworking of the ending of Ep #927, however, the way things play in the ending of Ep #927, Megan says things differently to Michael, so that quote may come up at some other time. But for what it's worth, here's the Robservations summary from Ep #927:

From "Robservations 5/6/03 - 926-927 - Michael Must Die!"
Michael lies in bed, moaning, I don't want to be by myself!  He thrashes on the pillow as if in pain. Please! I don't want to be by myself! he says again. Julia listens to his heart, then turns to the Todds.
Didn't he look well when he returned from Collinwood? asks Julia. He looked as if something was coming on, answers Megan--you can tell that with children--he didn't want to lie down, so I asked him to lie down in my bedroom--then I (Megan sobs) came back and found him lying unconscious on the floor. She again falls into Philip's arms, crying wildly.  He comforts her, assuring her, he's conscious now. I don't like it, says Julia--his heartbeat is irregular and his vital signs not what they should be--I want him in the hospital immediately. She picks up the phone to call for an ambulance. As she's dialing, Michael moans, I don't want to go, I'm afraid. Don't be afraid, says Megan, it's what's best for you. Michael suddenly goes limp. Megan, concerned, calls Julia over. She takes his pulse, but can't find one. He's dying! sobs Megan. Julia goes to get her bag--perhaps I can shock him back to life. (Paddles...everyone clear--no, this was before the time of that.)  Please, you must save him, wails Megan--don't let him die. Philip assures Megan, the doctor knows what she's doing, we must wait and see. Julia prepares a hypo and injects Michael with it...will be live or die?

If you don't want to know the circumstances surrounding April 21st's entry in this slideshow, then don't read any further...

[spoiler]April 21st's quote:
Ep #853 (1897[-1970PT: Ep #1023]) - Lady Kitty - 'I'm sorry. I know this MUST seem absurd to you, but we have met before.'

From "Robservations 3/14/03 - #852/853 - Catfight: Kitty 'n' Ang/Petofi Gives Q a Ring"
A morose Quentin drinks and listens to his music in the drawing room. Kitty, fully-dressed and highly agitated, enters in and interrogates him all about his fiancee--is she French? No, he says. (We accidentally see Lara Parker in the background.) She must be, frets Kitty, how long has she been here? Six months, and she came to see me, says Q. From where?--I'm sure I knew her in England, says Kitty, growing more and more upset--surely you can tell me that much. If he can't, interrupts Ang, I can--no, I've never been to England--does that satisfy you curiosity? Kitty apologizes for how absurd it must sound--but I am sure we have met before. Have we? asks Ang.  Were you ever a servant or personal maid? queries Kitty. I'd have been a poor one, says Ang, since servitude requires a temperament I don't possess (she seems pretty insulted, too). Coldly, Angelique asks Quentin--assure Lady Hampshire you aren't marrying below your status (ooh, bad flashbacks to her marriage to Barnabas, and Joshua's disapproval). Kitty knows that, Quentin tells his fiancee.  I didn't mean to be insulting, snaps Kitty, and stalks from the room.

The Robservations references the quote quite well...

And of course, we've seen notations like "(1897[-1970PT])" before and know it means that an 1897 quote has been substituted for what should have been a 1970PT quote. But this time around "(1897[-1970PT: Ep #1023])" means all that plus that the quote should have come from 1970PT's Ep #1023 but that ep doesn't have any "must" lines to quote from. So, with that in mind, it means that Ep #1023 now joins Eps #1, #5, #8, #12, #13, #22, , #24, #120, #124, #136, #138, #139, #141, #145, #189, #198, #210, #217, #219, #223, #242, #478, #659, #667, #690, #904 and #1008 as ones without any "must" lines.

And this is the second quote from this ep. The first (Lady Kitty - 'Whatever is happening to me, it MUST stop') was back on June 22nd of 2022.

From "#1152/1153: Robservations 11/04/03: Proof Positive"
Collinwood - Valerie continues to call Roxanne, ordering her to answer her call and appear to her.  She is gone, realizes Valerie, I can feel it--she's gone--Julia must have destroyed her!

Ep #962 (1970) - Quentin - 'Somehow, I've got to make you understand what I'm saying. You must understand!'

From "Robservations 6/2/03 - #962-963 - A New Vampire in Collinsport"
Quentin is walking through the woods when he the werewolf drops from a tree, holding his wound. Quentin leaps away at first, then stops, carefully observing the wounded creature. What have you done? he asks him. What have they done to you? Someone tried to capture you, kill you, or you killed him. Quentin moves in closer, looking at his kin--Chris, I want to help you, I really do
--somehow I must make you understand what I'm saying. The werewolf raises a hand to him, then collapses, moaning, to the ground. The night is over, says Quentin, gazing up at the sky. Indeed, it is. The werewolf transforms back into Chris.

The Robservations references the quote well...

The rare ep in which Quentin and Chris actually discuss how Quentin is responsible for Chris' curse...

[spoiler]Today's quote:
Ep #859 (1897) - Petofin - 'If she thinks I am Petofi, and if she knew him before, then she MUST have known his powers, and been afraid of him.'

From "Robservations 3/21/03 - Nora & Kitty; Where Did Julia Go?"
Petofi asks Kitty what SHE wants-surely you know why I'm here? You can be honest with me, she says-you caused me to come here the other night, right? You were in a trance, he says. And you deny causing it? she asks--what have you done with the woman who lived here? She returned to her own time, he says, called back to her own body in 1969. You're talking nonsense, says Kitty.  I'm not Count Petofi, he says-I can explain, please let me. Ah, yes, I heard you've gone mad, she says bitterly. It's not true, he says. Again, she asks, what happened to the woman who was here? She's gone, he reveals--I wanted her to stay, she believed me, believed I'm Quentin. I know you well enough to know you're up to something, she accuses. "You know me...well enough?" he asks. Her face filled with indignation, Kitty says, I can't forget what you did to me in England as conveniently as you can. I know nothing of England, he says, frustrated, or of you, or Petofi-how can I make you understand? Why are you doing this, she demands, who are you plotting against-me?--the Collins?--or only that poor woman who lived here-"tell me!" He realizes that while he can't convince her, perhaps he can use her?--if she thinks I'm Petofi, and if she knew him before, then she must have known his powers, and been afraid of him...he looks at her, then tells her, in a very Petofi- like manner (great acting gig here), how wise you are for someone so beautiful. You're incredible! she says nastily-- but I have always known that--not always, she says, I was fooled, at first--now tell me what you did with that woman who lived here! I told you, she's gone, says Petofi. Were you afraid she would tell you why I was drawn here? asks Kitty--was she ally or enemy? Still acting like Petofi, he says, I'll leave that for you to decide. Ahh, she says, you want me to continue to wonder what's happening to me, why I'm not myself, so you can accomplish what you set out to do?

The Robservations references the quote perfectly...

[spoiler]Today's quote:
Ep #603 (1968) - Roger - 'How they MUST all be laughing in the village.'

From "Robservations 8/13/02 - #602/603 - Death Stalks Mrs. Stoddard"
Liz hides her model tomb from him, telling him he'll see it soon, standing on the cliffs. When she reveals it to him, Roger looks lost--he can't believe she had an architect draw up plans--did you tell him of your terrible fear of being buried alive?--do you know what he thought while making it? Liz doesn't want to hear such cruel, negative talk. He was humoring an insane woman! shouts Roger--they must be laughing in the village. Vicki steps in to assure him they aren't. Liz tells him he shouldn't be so concerned about what others think--he'd have a better life. They're talking about THAT, says Roger, disdainfully pointing to the model.

The Robservations references the quote well...
