Amy comes downstairs, fully dressed, and tells Julia, "I have to go see Chris." No way, says Julia, go back to bed. Amy, however, is insistent--it will be too late if I don't see him now--something is happening; I had the scariest dream I've ever had, and my brother was in danger--I must see him to find out! Julia won't let her go, but Amy won't listen to this grownup. Please let me go, she begs. It's too dangerous, protests Julia. I'm afraid, because of Chris, says Amy. Julia tells her Chris is all right, but Amy sobs that she's scared, and tries to flee the house. She begs Julia to please let her go. Julia shakes her and orders her to stop--I'll go check on Chris at the cottage, I promise!

The Robservations doesn't reference the quote directly, but once again it's a case that it does reference the circumstances around it because the quote comes up after Amy says she has to find out what kind of terrible danger Chris is in but Julia says she can't see him and before Julia forbids Amy to leave the house because it's dangerous for her to go out in the woods alone at night...

When I was watching Ep #673 to see if there are any "MUST" lines in it (I found only two) I discovered yet another edit on the DVDs. It occurs in the Teaser while Barnabas is attempting to track down the "animal that walks like a man," since they're not calling it a werewolf yet. And as the animal finally reveals itself to him, it struck me that something might very well be missing -

- and when I checked the Sci-Fi version -

- I discovered that it was definitely different - however it wasn't until I checked my syndication version that I discovered what was really going on -

Obviously, everything on the Master Tape where the lines are visible (the shot of Barnabas just before the "animal" is about the reveal itself and the animal crawling across the rock and jumping down) was removed from the DVD. Though why even the shot of the animal landing its jump was also removed in the Sci-Fi version is anyone's guess. And something else I discovered puzzled me because I'd always presumed that the versions of DS running on Tubi and Pluto are the DVD versions, but that's not the case with at least Ep #673 because, unlike how none of the lines are visible on the DVD, the very tail end of them as the animal jumps down from the rock are visible on Tubi and Pluto. Unfortunately, I can't show footage of that, but here's a screen capture -

And you might have also noticed that something else is also missing from the DVD but does play in the Sci-Fi and Syndication versions, namely the full stinger to end the Teaser before the theme plays. Very strange. But then, so what else is new?

I just realized something: the DVD disc that Ep #673 is on (Volume 12 , Disc 2 / Disc 70 of the boxed set) has this notice on it:

Well, speak up, orders Edward.  Trask tells him Barnabas, your cousin, is the source of evil plaguing this house, and Carl is dead because he discovered Barnabas' secret--fortunately, Carl had a chance to reveal it to me before Barnabas killed him.  What secret? demands Edward.  Barnabas is a vampire, says Trask, and Dirk was only used by Barnabas to divert suspicion from himself--the secret is out now, I witnessed proof with my own eyes--the living dead can't exist in the light of day, and I challenged Barnabas to meet the dawn with me--but he was forced to vanish before my very eyes to save himself, a power he has, among others. Edward finds this incredible.  But true, says Trask.  I believe you, says Edward--a great many things are beginning to make sense now.  It's imperative to find and destroy Barnabas Collins, insists Trask.  It won't be easy to find him, says Edward.  I believe we'll find him at the Old House, says Trask.  No, says Edward, now that he knows he's been exposed, he wouldn't leave it there.  He was there until dawn, says Trask, and couldn't possibly have moved it since then (has Trask associated all this with the marks on his own daughter's throat?)--I think we should send the police to the Old House.  Edward shoots that idea down--for the sake of this family's peace of mind, no one else must ever know this terrible secret.  (Now Edward is showing emotion!)--we must go to the Old House now and do what must be done.

The Robservations references the quote perfectly...

(And Edward does not say, "no one else must know this terrible secret," because what he actually says is, "no one else is ever to know this terrible secret")

Then you're a...begins Tate. That's right, I'm a werewolf, admits Chris, who grabs Tate's lapels and gets right in his face--and you're going to start painting right now and not stop until you finish. I can't paint anything, protests Tate softly, if I'm imprisoned. He releases himself from Chris' grasp. Chris apologizes--I've been searching for an answer for so long, I'm desperate.

The Robservations doesn't reference the quote st all. However, it comes up after Chris tells Tate he doesn't want his money and before he tells Tate he wants Tate to paint his portrait...

She turns.  Jamison is gone, replaced by Quentin.  I've been looking for you, she says.  You've found me, he says, grinning.  Yes, she agrees.  Here I am, he says, looking at his portrait, for all to see--sometimes I think that face is more real than my own.  That isn't true, she says.  Do you know the truth? he asks.  I want to, very much, she assures him.  No, you don't, he says, you must not ever know--why must you always insist on talking about it--can't you be happy, gay?--don't you want to make me feel good?  Yes, I do! she says eagerly.  Sing, and make me stop thinking, please, he begs.  Oh yes, she cries, then stands onstage in front of sparkling curtains and sings "I'm Gonna Dance For You," to a fast version of the song.   The music stops, Quentin disappears and Charity hears laughter.

The Robservations references the quote almost perfectly...

(And Quentin does not say, "why must you always insist on talking about it," because what he actually says is, "why do you always insist we talk about it?")

And this is the second quote from this ep. The first (Jamitofi - 'Perhaps Barnabas Collins had, had a premonition of danger. He merely follows his instinct--as we MUST now do') was back on August 25th of 2020.

And just a reminder, we've seen notations like "(1897[-1967])" before and know it means that an 1897 quote has been substituted for what should have been a 1967 quote. But this time around "(1897[-1970PT: Ep #1008])" means all that plus that the quote should have come from 1970PT's Ep #1008 but that ep doesn't have any "must" lines to quote from. So, with that in mind, it means that Ep #1008 now joins Eps #1, #5, #8, #12, #120, #124, #136, #138, #139,#189, #198, #210, #217, #219, #478, #659, #667 and #904 as ones without any "must" lines. And there's just one more coming up this month, but it'll be quite a while before it does...

Inside, Tad and Carrie seem to be standing on something very high, towering over them, their hands held out in urgent supplication. Come--hurry! bids Tad. Please come! implores Carrie. Hurry, hurry, don't keep us waiting, says Carrie. Follow us, begs Tad. David and Hallie stare at them, unsure of what to do.

Lorna and Quentin exchange looks; she says, "I will see YOU later."  Oh? asks Quentin.  Don't worry, she assures him, I won't say a word.  Trask overhears, puzzled.  She goes to him--I won't be at the services tomorrow, she says--I have an engagement in Boston, so I'll say goodbye.  She's about to leave when Quentin asks, just what do you mean about seeing me later?  You know, she says--the memorial services for Roxanne?  What memorial service? asks Quentin.  Don't worry, I won't say anything to Lamar, but I must sign the guest book--goodnight, she says.

The Robservations references the quote well but not perfectly because it substitutes "but" for "well," which is actually what Lorna says...

A bit of trivia concerning the actress who played Lorna. Marilyn Joseph was actually Chris Pennock's wife. They had been married only very slightly more than 5 months before Ep #1142 was shot.

Interestingly enough, if the plan really was to use Marilyn as "one of those 'vampire haunted ingenues'" and for her to play opposite Chris, obviously that didn't pan out. Not only didn't Lorna have any connection to anything vampiric, she didn't share any scenes with Gabriel. In fact, Chris Pennock wasn't even in Ep #1142 (nor was he in Ep #1145 when Lorna made a second appearance).

There's not much information out there on Marilyn Joseph. She appeared on stage in Washington in The Tales of Canterbury and later was on Broadway with Chris in A Patriot For Me. Her two episode stint on DS is her only credit on imdb and seems to be her final credit of any kind.

And speaking of A Patriot for Me, I wonder what it was about Chris that first caught her eye? But I digress.

At any rate, the production had a quite stellar cast, including two Oscar winners, Maximilian Schell and Tommy Lee Jones, as well as DS day players Keene Curtis and Brian Sturdivant.

The Robservations references the quote almost perfectly, if it weren't for the facts that it adds a "while" that Catherine doesn't say and leaves out a "but" and a "that" that she does say...

And of course there's no screen capture for this quote in the slideshow because we don't have the video of the ep. However, the recreation with the audio uses this screen capture taken from a surrounding ep to represent Catherine as she delivers the line:
