Author Topic: Where is/was the forum and why (Read 2202 times)

The title of this topic has two great questions - but as of yet there are no answers. I spoke with our host yesterday and they pointed me to the site that holds with forum's domain name (dsboards.com). For some reason everyone is getting the error
"www.dsboards.com’s server IP address could not be found." The answer for why that seems to be happening is quite technical so I won't get into the whole thing - but suffice it to say that domain name dsboards.com isn't being associated with the forum's IP address - so for a change an Internet error is telling us exactly what's happening. Yesterday afternoon, I emailed the site that holds the forum's domain name, but as of yet they haven't gotten back to me. So we're basically in limbo until they do. But hopefully you'll see this message before too long...

And the only reason I can access the forum is because I know the forum's IP address, so I can access (almost) everything using it rather than dsboards.com...

It all sounds quite bizarre!

I'm just relieved that the forum content wasn't deleted altogether. I shudder to think what that might have meant for you, had you decided to tackle the huge task of resurrecting it from the ground up.

I thought dsboards was gone for good. After days and days of trying on all the connections I have - google, microsoft edge and firefox - any attempt to find you was fruitless. All led to sites that said you had been "sold" and your space was available. I figured that after more than 20 years, it had been a good run.

Where in heaven's name did you see that because there was NEVER even the slightest speck of truth to that!!

And as obvious proof of that, I was here posting on all the days that others couldn't get through.

That being said though, there was a time on Monday that the system reported you as being on the forum:

Midnite and I wondered how in the world you were able to get through when no one else could? But to make things weirder, the system also reported a guest was here (that's why, if one checks the forum's stats, it says that 3 people were here on the 8th (and it's listed on the 8th rather than the 7th because, as indicated above, it was after 7pm ET, which is when the forum's day actually changes).

It was wired, MB. When I clicked on the Dsboards linek on whatever search engine, it would go to a "search." The first few would say you were "sold." One time, on firefox, I played back and forth and found you, but only the home page. If I clicked on anything else, it would say you were "sold."

Today, figuring you were gone, I pulled up the dosboards bookmark to remove it and there you were. Whatever happened with your server was resolved.

Never trust anyone who wants you to give them money for sutff. All are crooks.

Well, I have no idea what to say about any of that. Anyone who might check the domain can easily see that it's existed with the same owner since 2002 (when the forum was first created). That was true before our latest incident. It was true during our latest incident. And it continues to be true now.

Apparently, not only can't you believe everything that you read on the Interent, you also can't believe everything that comes up in some search engines.

That really seems weird - I just kept getting the usual error message that the site couldn't be found, and it probably had the "contact the administrator" or "try again," etc.

The only 2 ways I can get in here is via a message on FB, or, if I scroll down to my history.

MB, is there another name, besides the 173.201.245.6/(in gray)SMF/index.ep?action-post;topic=86021.0;last_msg=365439 (I'm reading from the address bar above).
