Current Talk '10 I / EW's List of Soaps Loved and Lost
« on: February 12, 2010, 05:59:56 PM »
From December, 2009.  Better late than never?

13 Soap Operas We've Loved, Lost

I'll forgive Entertainment Weekly for its use of the c-word since they again used the photo of Liz, Roger and Vicki instead of a stock pic of Barnabas, and for the comparison to Lost, too.

[Hmm, I didn't know "DiNozzo" (Michael Weatherly) was on Loving.]

Hello, Dark Shadows Fan,

ShadowGram (SG), The Official Newsletter & News Source for Dark Shadows (DS), announces the following breaking news in this Online News Update "bulletin."

--- MARIE WALLACE IN STAGED READING
--- LISA RICHARDS IN PERFORMANCE OF PULITZER PRIZE-WINNING PLAY
--- SPECIAL PRICE FOR "THE DARK SHADOWS CONCORDANCE 1897" Volume 1

**** MARIE WALLACE'S STAGED READING

Marie (Eve, Mad Jenny, Megan Todd) invites all NYC-area fans to attend an upcoming performance. She says:

"Hi, New York Dark Shadows Fans,
I'll be doing a staged reading in the city - one night only - and if you're nearby, you might like to come.

"Here's the information: Theatrical Reading. Time: 7:30PM Tuesday, February 2nd. Location: Roy Arias Studios, 300 W, 43rd St (at 8th Avenue) 5th Floor."

SH joins Marie in hoping many fans attend and enjoy the reading!

**** LISA RICHARDS STARS IN "THE BURIED CHILD"

Lisa appears as "Halie" in a production of Sam Shepard's 1979 Pulitzer Prize-winning drama "The Buried Child." Her character is married to "Dodge," portrayed by Lisa's real-life husband, actor Steve Mendillo.

A preview performance is 2-4 and the play runs 2-5/21 in the Studio Theatre at Point Park University's Pittsburgh Playhouse in Pittsburgh.

Publicity: "In his 1979 Pulitzer Prize-winning family drama, `Buried Child,' Sam Shepard takes a macabre look at one American Midwestern family with a very dark secret. This powerful and brilliant play probes deep into the disintegration of the American Dream. When Vince brings his girlfriend, Shelly, home to meet his family, she is at first charmed by the picturesque farm house - that's before she actually meets his crazy family--his ranting, alcoholic grandparents (Dodge and Halie) and their two sons: Tilden, a hulking semi-idiot, and Bradley, who has lost one leg to a chain saw. Strangely, no one seems to remember Vince at first, and they treat him as an intruder. Eventually, however, they seem to accept him as a part of their violently dysfunctional family. When the truth is shockingly unearthed, will the family be able to move beyond its dark curse?"

The theatre is located at:
Point Park University's Pittsburgh Playhouse
222 Craft Ave.
Pittsburgh, PA 15213
(in Oakland)

Performances will be held Thursdays through Saturdays at 8 p.m., and Saturdays and Sundays at 2 p.m. Tickets range in price from $24 to $27 and can be purchased by calling the Pittsburgh Playhouse box office at 412-621-4445 or online at www.pittsburghplayhouse.com.

There are 2 special performance opportunities:

--- "Pay What You Will " – Sat., Feb. 6 at 2:00 PM. Seating is subject to availability.
--- "Coffee and Donut Social" – Sat., Feb. 13, prior to the 2:00 PM performance

**** SPECIAL PRICE FOR DS 1897 CONCORDANCE VOLUME 1

The full-size illustrated books are 150-300+ pages each. They serve as excellent episode guides and resources. Different Concordances cover the 1795 storyline through DS' final show (with the exception of the last half of the 1897 flashback story).

An interesting coincidence, whether or not you believe in such things--

This blog article about the president's social secretary says that because of the WH partnership with the Disney company, Johnny Depp (in Mad Hatter costume) was a guest at the White House party for area schoolchildren last Halloween, which was exactly 40 years after Tricia Nixon hosted Jonathan Frid (dressed as Barnabas) at a WH Halloween party for DC's underprivileged children.
