Testing. 1, 2, 3... / Today's Montage......
« on: January 30, 2003, 10:16:17 PM »
....is completely distorted on my monitor, except for the top row of pictures.  The distortion gets worse as it goes down the montage.

Just in case it's not a universal problem :-/

They look like a vaudville act!  And just where the hell IS Tim's left hand?

Very naughty, Pepe.  [smrtasy]

Current Talk '03 I / Davis' Dirk.........
« on: January 16, 2003, 04:26:21 AM »
....must surely deserve a nomination for the single most irritating performance in the life of this show!

I know....I don't have a clue what's still to come up ahead.  But PLEASE!!....tell me they don't get much worse than this!

If nothing else, at least we can point to the exact moment in film history to which Davis chose to give homage.  His entire performance is a twitch-by-howl rip off of Renfield, the spider-slobbering psychopath in the original Dracula.  Every move is pure immitation....the eye-popping, sing-songing, giggling dementedness...right down to the famous hair-raking.....is a performance worthy of a copy-right infringement law-suit.

He goes away soon.....right? ::)

Current Talk '03 I / What Happened to the Vienna Episodes?.....
« on: January 14, 2003, 05:29:10 PM »
.....you know....the ones where Barnabas was there, studying Dream Analysis under the reknowned Herr Doctor Freud?  Amazing, isn't it....that an 18th century man who's spent 200 years in a casket can explain the subconsious and how it creates dreams to a 19th century child?  Where DO you suppose he got that stuff?  Late night brandy-and-cigarette sessions with the estimable Dr. Hoffmann?  ("Hypnosis is all in the wrist, Barn.....if you can twirl that gaudy locket, you'll have 'em spillin' their guts all over the place!")

The dream sequence itself was..........I'll call it 'effective', though 'perverse' is what I really think.  Having a dying child discuss his impending death does not entertain me, regardless of how well it works.

......well, actually, I didn't watch all of it, but I DID catch the part where Quentin comes in and falls on the foyer floor.

What the hell was Beth doing?....rubbing Vicks Vapo-rub all over his chest?  Jeez....if a man groped a woman like that he'd be a class III sex offender!!! ::)

Just commenting.

Current Talk '02 II / THAT'S IT?!!  THAT'S THE CURSE OF THE GYPSIES?!!!
« on: December 19, 2002, 09:31:38 PM »
Oh, you have to be kidding me!!  The Horns?  Magda puts the Horns on Quentin and that's the curse?

PLEASE!!  Every Sicilian on earth knows that gesture and what it means.....only a wife and her lover can 'put the horns' on a husband and the gesture is used by others to indicate that a man has been cuckolded.

Considering that we're talking about Quentin here, who apparently has already boinked every grown female on the estate except Judith (let us devoutly hope ::) ) I find it hilarious that THIS is the gesture the writers came up with.

Somebody went home and laughed himself silly that night. [smrtasy]

Games / The First Annual "We're All Bored To Death" DS Character Grab Bag!
« on: December 10, 2002, 05:09:32 PM »
Okay, we can't all continue to sit around here waiting for poor Connie to come up with yet another hysterical storyboard to entertain us.  Time for the rest of us to contribute to the alleviation of the Holiday Doldrums.....so here's my 2 cents worth:

You've just pulled a DS character's name out of a very large brandy snifter,  and now you have to get them a grab bag gift.  (Consider yourself lucky that you get to pick the character yourself.)  [smrtasy]

My character is..........NICHOLAS BLAIR!!
.....to whom I give a classic grey fedora hat like my grandpa used to wear, so I can toss that Tyrolean Travesty he wore to death onto  the Yule log!!!

Who's next?

.....which occured to me while I was in search of "Christmas Carol" tree ornaments: were there ever DS based Christmas ornaments?

I know there was an incredible amount of DS "stuff" back in the day but I don't think I've seen any mention of ornaments.

If they could sell out "Marley's Ghost" and "The Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come" in a matter of days....why not the Ghost of Quentin Collins? :D

I'm not having trouble getting on and off the forum, or opening or closing messages, or moving from board to board.

I just keep running into threads that won't open for me, on the general discussion board and now Robin's Crypt.

Current Talk '02 II / If That Was MY Dead Brother......
« on: November 19, 2002, 10:28:49 PM »
....there'd be body parts on the carpet and blood on the walls when I caught up with Rachel Drummond.....But not Mrs. Trask!!!

No!....not the saintly and forgiving Minerva Trask....who only wants Rachel to return to the fold....to come back and be a good little teacher again....Never mind a little murder amongst friends....all is forgiven....IF you come back and do what you're told.

HOW SICK IS THIS????

How many brothers do you suppose Minerva Trask HAS, that she can spare one or two? What do you suppose they told the police happened when they reported the death?  Or did they just toss him down the well and not mention it to anyone?  In either case, how are they going to explain it to the authorities now, if they try to accuse Tim and Rachel?

And why aren't Tim and Rachel asking these questions?  I can buy being so terrified, or emotionally damaged  that you can't act on your own behalf.....but they DID have the gumption to get away once......did a taste of freedom render them both terminally stupid?

Current Talk '02 II / Serial Amnesia....is is Genetic?
« on: November 18, 2002, 10:23:29 PM »
Once again, I am astonished at the speed with which members of the Collins family can forget a thing that just happened 15 minutes ago.  Things that would stay with any other person for the rest of their natural lives, the residents of Collinwood forget like it was yesterday's grocery list.

What other explanation can there be for the behaviour of Quentin Collins today, when he first saw Laura?

"You're Dead!!.....It can't be you because You're Dead!...I saw you die, therefore you must be Dead!"

HELLO?!

What kind of response is this from a man only days out of the grave himself?  Wasn't he Dead?  Isn't he Alive?  If HE can do it....why on earth can't SHE do it?

When you get right down to it, by this point there shouldn't be a single oddity left that this crowd couldn't imagine without breaking a sweat!! ::)

Yes, I realize that they can't have everyone in the story walking around in a bored stupor.....("Back from the dead already dear?....but you've only just got into the ground!")...but at least they could have written it so that Quentin made SOME comment about the believability of resurrection...instead of just letting him rant denial!

Current Talk '02 II / Some Thoughts on the Rev. Trask
« on: November 15, 2002, 01:07:56 AM »
Never having watched this storyline before, I was unaware of a very interesting achievement on the part of Mr. Curtis and Company.  I had no idea that, at this point in his ongoing narrative, Dan Curtis would produce his first truly terrifying character.

Certainly, up till now, we've had a plethora of storybook bogeymen to entertain us.  The Vampire, The Monster, The Werewolf and now even The Zombie, are all standard props in the repertoire of horror stories.  At some point, they even slip over the edge and become comic book shadows of the original creatures with which we love to scare ourselves witless.

But now we have on the scene a creature that we CANNOT laugh at, because, unlike the others, he is not a figment of overwrought imagination.  Instead, he is that most horrific thing, the Human Monster, who lives and breathes like the rest of us, but is, in fact, the closest to pure evil any of us can fathom.

Watching today's episode for the very first time, I immediately wondered if, were he producing this series today, Dan Curtis would create this personification of evil: a man who claims to represent God, but instead, represents all that is loathsome, degenerate, cruel and unholy.

I found Jerry Lacy's portrayal brilliant¢â‚¬¦.to the point of being unbearable to watch.  The unmistakable innuendo of sexual abuse, physical cruelty and psychological torture was more than I ever would have imagined being portrayed on a daytime soap opera.  I was frankly astonished by it.

But, after turning it off, and thinking about it at some length, it occurred to me that these are different times, and this was produced 35 years ago.  We were more innocent then.  Or more oblivious.  A story like this would have been viewed (in 1967) as a Victorian melodrama¢â‚¬¦..the sort of thing that "doesn't  happen in this day and age"¢â‚¬¦..except, of course, that it did¢â‚¬¦¢â‚¬¦and does¢â‚¬¦..and almost certainly will continue to.

Given what we are forced to acknowledge of life today,  I very much doubt Gregory Trask would exist in a modern version of this series.  The original Rev. Trask was an archetype of hypocricy and self-importance, narrow-minded enough to believe in Satanism.  He was easy to watch, as he made a fool of himself and paid the price.

But not THIS Rev. Trask.   He strikes too close to home¢â‚¬¦..he's too immediate and real¢â‚¬¦..the likes of him haunt us in our waking hours, not in our dreams¢â‚¬¦¢â‚¬¦and, for me, at least, he's too despicable to be entertainment.

Current Talk '02 II / Blondie Raises the Dead and other Strange Things
« on: November 08, 2002, 07:20:52 PM »
Angelique can raise the Dead?  :o

Has she ALWAYS had this useful ability?  I'm amazed.....if she's always been able to do this, one wonders why we haven't seen it many times before.  In fact, I'm surprised we haven't seen enough animated corpses to re-cast "Night of the Living Dead"!  There have certainly been enough dead bodies left lying around to try it out on!! ::)

And speaking of very odd things....is today's "Tell them you saw nothing here"....."Yes, but what do I TELL them?"..."That you saw nothing here!" considered by aficionados to be the ultimate DS Blooper?  Shall we take a poll?
