....and guess which Gothic Soap Opera made the list?  ;D

Check out the 5/30-6/5/04 edition.....you'll find it at #19, tucked between "Twin Peaks" and "Dr. Who"......not exactly shabby company... ;)

If the pilot is successful, and the new DS is going to be on the fall schedule, the promotions should be in full swing by mid-August.  Do you suppose that might mean an unexpected amount of interest in the Festival?

Would the Fest organizers be sorry they moved the Fest to Tarrytown, instead of remaing in NYC, where a larger audience might have found them?

Would those interested in the new DS show up expecting to hear about that?  And would the organizers change things to accomodate the new show?

So much to speculate on.....so little time....[lghy]

But seriously....what might a very successful New DS mean to future Festivals?

Current Talk '04 I / Waking up in the 21st Century......

Somehow, I don't think the original series method of simply ignoring the problem of Barnabas' antiquity is going to work in a prime time series.  I can't quite picture a complete lack of automobiles, computers, plasma screen televisions and telephones....especially considering the demographics of the network involved.

So....how do you suppose they're going to handle teaching Barnabas to live in his new environment....and what excuse will they have for marching back and forth through the woods from house to house, instead of calling one another on their cell phones?

Current Talk '04 I / But What About The REAL Dark Shadows?
« on: March 24, 2004, 12:16:18 AM »
It's all very nice to read about the NEW DS....who's directing....who's playing which parts......what characters will or won't appear......

But what about the "real thing" and why hasn't there been a hint of it coming back on a different channel?  If Soap Net's working on bringing it back, they're certainly being quiet about it.

I fear my suspicions regarding keeping the original off the air, while the new one tried to make a name for itself, might have been right.  :(

Does ANYONE out there know ANYTHING??

As for the house they'll use as Collinwood - I think I miight actually be anticipating learning that news more than I am learning who'll be cast in the remaining roles.  ;)

What are you hoping for, exactly?  Historical accuracy?  I'm not sure WHAT a rich man's house would have looked like in 1790's Maine....but I'm pretty sure it wouldn't have looked anything like the one used for the original series.  And despite being called a "gothic" soap opera, gothic architecture didn't become popular in the States until the mid-19th century.

Of course, there's always Second Empire....the quintisential "haunted house"....mansard roofs and French doors.  That's MY favorite style of house and I'd love to see it....but it certainly wouldn't be correct for the time Collinwood was built.

...from places where razor blades are either unheard of, or forbidden.

WHAT  :o  was with the Tricky Dick 5 o'clock shadow?

He looked like he'd been on a prolonged bender, instead of a journey in search of fortune!!

If the point was to make him look like he'd been to the far end of the earth, give him a BEARD for pete's sake, not a 3 day stubble!!!  :P

Current Talk '03 II / The Executioner
« on: December 05, 2003, 07:11:40 PM »
I realise that historical inaccuracy is virtually a hallmark of Dark Shadows.....but today's executioner, with his masked hood and elaborate axe was right out of a Medieval Morality play.

Where would they have come by such things in 1840 Collinsport.....Ye Olde Theatrical Costume and Prop Shoppe?  ::)

Current Talk '03 II / Thoughts on a new DS and the '91 series
« on: November 29, 2003, 02:57:09 AM »
Somewhere on here (probably a year and a half ago) there is a long thread in which many of us commented on what we thought a 'new' DS should look like.

The general consensus was that a re-make of the old was impossible, but a "next generation" was a good idea.  Frankly, I'll be surprised if the new one currently being created isn't a "next generation" concept.

Did you all SEE him!!!  Sitting there with Tyne Daly?  And when she got up to accept her award for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama, and she pointed him out in the audience, referring to her good fortune in acting partners.....DID YOU SEE HIM!!!!

He looks FABULOUS!!!

Goddess bless my darling husband for putting the Emmys on when I said "Oh who gives a ***** about the Emmys?"  AND for realising who he was and calling me in time!!

.....that is our latest montage is quite the collection of interesting faces!  ::)

Who, pray tell, is that 'lovely' man directly across the tombstone from John Karlen's character?

He bears a striking resemblance to John Zacherly....but only cousins who grew up in the New York metro area (and are pushing 50) would know that.  ;)

Anyone else experiencing this?
