OH Connie, be still my beating loins, er, I mean, HEART.

That was really precious.  A friend of mine thinks that Humbert (esp. in his Nicholas Blair persona) is something of a leather daddy.  And Don here is clearly a deceptively baby-faced, tough bit of street ACTION.

mmmmmm (sound of Gothick purring)

Early birthday wishes to you, darling!  You are a bright star in our online firmament.

Current Talk '03 I / Re: Muffled Sound
« on: January 15, 2003, 01:42:46 AM »
When I was bothering to watch DS on Sci Fi (when available) a couple of runs back, mainly because I didn't yet have most of the shows on tape, I remember muffled sound frequently on Sci Fi's broadcasts of DS, not just for this month of 1897.

I also have noticed on the MPI tapes episodes where some other soundtrack was playing behind the existing soundtrack. There's an episode from the 1968 storyline when Julia comes staggering in from Tom's feast in the woods where my MPI tape has a jarring, harsh noise that lasts a couple of seconds. Richard Holt said this was on the master tape. And then there are all of those shows where one of the cameras seemed to have some kind of weird fisheye lens on it and nobody bothered to fix it!

I guess we can just count our blessings that so much of the show survives and looks and sounds as good as it does.  If you want comparisons, try another mid Sixties soap. I have 5 shows from the 1966 Days of Our Lives and it's soooo dull.

Poor Barbara Eden. It's good to see her looking so chipper and vital after the horrors she endured last year.  That woman is a real trooper.

I'm glad you were able to get such a lovely photo, Ringo. You actually look great in this, in my not-so-humble opinion.

*I* still dream of Grayson Hall.  I had a hysterically funny dream of her a couple of nights ago.  She was still alive, and hostessing a game show of the "Weakest Link" variety.  She was brilliant at it and had become a national figure as a result.

You're killing me here, RP!

I had something else to add but I "plum" forgot.

(oooh that one was AWFUL)

Aren't the preserves damson, or damson plums?

Help!  I need Raineypark to help remind me of Minerva's Little Book of Home Preserves and what she says about plums!

I LOVE MINERVA TRASK.

Hi Luciaphil,

Looking at the snapshots featured in the montages, I got the feeling that Laura's wardrobe change was meant to emphasize for the viewer that her powers--and vital energies--were waning rapidly.  Would have been interesting if Loscalzo had switched the pancake job to a more washed out type of look for her makeup.

The scene where Magda reads the cards at Laura's behest is one of my favorites, as it is one of the few times they use the Tarot somewhat accurately on the show. I *have* known this to happen where you re-shuffle the cards and the same card keeps popping out of the deck.  Can be maddening when that happens; it's almost as if you can hear the gods chuckling and commenting wryly, "Well, YOU asked the question, sweetie!"

Thanks for this wonderful, witty critique.  I just love your writing.

Connie dear, I'm screaming at the thought of your husband romping naked out in the snow in the back yard!  My dear, whatever will the neighbors think?

Jennifer, I think we need to build a roaring fire and invite Chris Jennings over to huggle and snuggle!  Gothick's solution to a snowy winter's eve!

Raineypark, haven't you learned yet that some of us old dogs still think we're puppies in the bizarre inner recesses of our own minds.  Oh well, only 3 weeks to go till Imbolc.

Wow, Connie, this story is turning into a REAL roller coaster ride.  And I'm loving every minute of it.

The illos in 20 and 21 are beautiful.  The image of Quentin in 1975 is fabulous. And I adore the painting.  Is it your own work?

Your fan,  Steve

Dear Brian, hope your special day is just dandy!

May you enjoy a new year of health, peace and prosperity!

Best wishes,

Steve

Hey Sarah I like your solution to the "problem"!  I think Q, B & J would make a great threesome!  Maybe not traditionally, but, hey, what about these three is?

They all care so much about one another and are so fond of one another.  I think it would be the ideal solution.

And I wanna be a fly on the wall when Roger and Liz discuss the matter.

LIZ:  We will simply have to pretend that Quentin is staying with Barnabas and Julia to help them with their history project ... I mean, their scientific research into reanimated corpses ... I mean, their study of exorcism techniques among the rich and famous ... I mean--

ROGER:  Oh, shut up, Liz!

Hi Connie, I'm definitely still reading the story, though I am behind by a few chapters, due to the fact that I was pretty much offline for 2 weeks, and I have cartloads of work to catch up with.

Today over lunch I read the chapter where Julia had realized she needed to perform the surgery on Quentin's bullet herself.  I smiled to read about Barnabas' newfound appreciation for housework.  I imagine him putting on a big frilly apron to protect those expensive suits he always wore around the house in the Sixties.

Happy Birthday Jennifer!

I thought of you a few days ago as I finally ordered the MPI tapes for weeks 84 and 85, when Chris does that thing we like so much!

Hope you get warm wolfie snugglies for your special day.

xo, Steve

I saw Thayer David's appearance on Rockford Files when TV Land aired it recently.  It's a great little scene, and very different from his other work.

I recommend the episode of Rockford in which Dennis Patrick and Dana Elcar appeared, if you enjoyed their work on DS; they both play characters a lot like Jason and Sherrif Patterson, though the writing isn't as good as what they were given on DS.  Still fun to see.  Dennis looked very distinguished, and Dana looked a lot healthier than he did on DS--that healthy California lifestyle no doubt!

Thanks for sharing these, Victoria.  I hadn't heard about this being aired; would have taped it, had I known.  I enjoyed Bernau's work on DS a lot.

He looks as if he had a rough life, given how badly he seems to have aged during the 13 years between 1970 (when he did his work on DS) and ths time.

Incidentally, Chris played opposite Don Briscoe in the replacement cast for Boys in the Band in 1969 on B'way.  I've often wondered whether Briscoe put the bee in his bonnet about trying out for DS.
