I personally thought Dirk was the best RD characterization.  I always found Peter/Jeff a crashing bore.  CDT just pisses and moans endlessly, and then, there's Ned Stuart.  UGH.

One of my favorite moments in all DS is in hoDS,
when Jeff is trying to talk Maggie out of her Josette-trance and Willie, after letting him natter on for a moment or so, conks him out with something large blunt object.
Gerard, I would always get so excited whenever I would hear a cue from DS on another program, after the show went off the air.  I don't remember the music from Night Stalker so much, but I do remember the string of productions DC did for that ABC late night slot that were dramatic adaptations of Dorian Gray, Frankenstein, and others.  They all had the old DS cues which he recycled for the score.  Even when DS was still on, he did the same thing for Dead of Night/Darkness at Blaisedon (a personal favorite in my home).

The strangest instance of this was at some point in, I think, the early 1990s, all of a sudden DS cues were being played during some Saturday Night Live skits.  I didn't watch often enough to be able to report how frequently this happened, but the one or two times I experienced it, it was a very strange thing to see and hear on the TV.

I lived in a town where what I believe to have been the first relay of syndication started in early 1976.  What was odd about that was they began with the episode where Willie releases Barnabas from his coffin, in 1967.  I had never seen those episodes since I did not begin watching till June of 1968.  It wasn't until the videotapes came out in the 1990s that I was finally able to see again more than just one or two of the 1968 episodes, and see my personal first episode of the show again.

Happy Happy Birthday!  Another joyous day of fun, frolicking, celebration... and tapioca!  May it all be super-mega-fantabulosa!

Hi Philippe,
No, it was a trap set by Nathan and the Craig Slocum character--for some reason I can't remember his name--a plot to further unhinge Millicent, AND expose Barnabas as the Collinsport Strangler--at least, that is how I remember it... it has been a very long time since I saw this particular episode...
Yes, there's an incredibly vivid photo of Barbara from the torture sequence in Black Sunday in full color.  It is a shot that has supposedly never been published before.

I was able to see an online preview of the issue and thought there were some interesting bits in it.

Best,  G.

Thanks, Midnite!  I'm sure I only ever saw that episode once, and it was well over ten years ago.

Love Charlotte's costume, and her cute cap.  Too bad she didn't show up again in later episodes.  I would have loved a little servants' gossip at Collinwood...

Angelique's coffin was originally in a secluded basement room of the House by the Sea.  Towards the end of her time in that particular storyline, she moved her coffin AND stole the magic mirror to another location.  I was never sure exactly where it was, but Barnabas took Julia there after Nicholas's disappearance and that was when they found the shattered mirror.
At the end of the original 1795/96 storyline, Millicent is hopelessly insane, and there's never any reference to her ever being nursed back to sanity.  Daniel is clearly stated to be the ancestor of the family of the 1960s, which is why Vicki being on hand to save Daniel's life is so essential.
Whenever this date comes up on the calendar, I can't help remembering that this was the day of the year when the last ever episode of Dark Shadows, the original series, aired in 1971.  As we've all reminisced many times in the past, our beloved show had the ignominy of being replaced by a very blandly presented game show, Password... I did tune in the following Monday to make sure the show wasn't really still on, and there was Allan Ludden doing his thing.

Thanks to the magic of DVDs, Youtube, and a surprising variety of mass media mentions and references, it seems our beloved show will live forever, but I still feel the hurt of that seemingly final parting, all those years ago.

I don't keep up with these as I should like to do, alas.  I just have to chime in that I LOVE Jane Draper and wish she had been brought back, perhaps as a Levianette, or maybe instead of the dumb storyline where Willie kidnaps Maggie during the Adam storyline, Our Jane could have shown up as a nosy wise-cracking reporter a la Glenda Farrell and started asking "too many" questions.  (Reporter (looking around Collinwood drawing room with distaste):  "So what time do they lay out the chow in this dump?" Barnabas (looking down his nose):  "Madam, you ask... too many QUESSStionssss.")

I didn't understand the point of Barn strangling all those women without having a nice long drink first.  This was even underlined in
the scene in 1968 when Trask's ghost comes back and puts Barnabas on trial and Nathan's ghost keeps repeating "strangulation" when asked how so-and-so died.
