For anyone who's interested, a penpal who caught the broadcast told me that this version of the film runs to 92 minutes.  It has the clearest color and best sound of any version seen to date and apparently has footage that was missing from some of the versions that have circulated on the grey market--some of the latter derive from a 16 mm copy from a collector.

I alas do not have it, though a friend is working on getting me a copy.

Alas, I missed the screening... I got the wrong info about the venue.  Perhaps another time...

Was Martin Donovan in more than this one scene?  I like the edge of snark and savvy in this Roger... too bad I can't remember him at all...

Enter Roger, as played by Martin Donovan.  I have no memory at all of Donovan's work in this, so color me fascinated all over again.

Thanks MB!  Good luck with our latest Winter Wonderland!  Tonight I am going to see a one night only showing of Stranger by the Lake, a new French film that I am quite intrigued by.  I doubt it would be of interest; it only features copious full frontal male nudity in a gorgeous natural setting... a cottage by the lake that seems reminiscent of where I tend to vacation every August...

cheers, G.

so Greystone was used for the 2004 Collinwood as well?  I had forgotten all about that.

I think the photo today shows Blair Brown who played Liz.  I'm not familiar with Miss Brown's work... she might have been on the West Wing, which seems very appropriate for DS (cheesy joke I know but I couldn't resist it).

I have no idea what the director had in mind with how they chose to play the scene where Liz welcomes Vicki to Collinwood.  She comes across as a babbling idiot.  One of the moments in the pilot that still makes *me* wince whenever I recall it.

It almost plays as if Miss Brown was improvising how SHE would have written or done the scene and the director liked it so much he decided to keep it.

Other than that, I liked Miss Brown as Liz, and I look forward to continuing with the series.  Thanks again to everybody who worked on this, and special thanks to MB for your posts--truly awesome work!

Willie's line about the garage, I think--delivered with a sexy smile (or should that be a leer)--probably hallucinating that particular memory.  Ah well...

Josette I think you will be very happy to have made the extra effort.  Our Thayer really shines as Nero Wolfe.  The only thing that upsets me whenever I watch it is I think how young he was when he died...

I'm lucky enough to have seen this film a couple of times and I give it the very highest possible recommendation, particularly for Thayer David fans.  The actor who plays Archie is very good as well... just a wonderful gem and a superb showcase for the incredible talent that was Thayer David.

Calendar Events / Announcements '14 I / Donna McKechnie interview video

Fans,

Donna McKechnie is interviewed by Celebrity cruise lines Cruise Director Alexander Yepremian in 2013 when Donna was doing a one woman show on the Celebrity Summit:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4zItK3aGbv4

I met Alexander briefly last week when I was on another Celebrity vessel with my family.

Donna mainly talks about A Chorus Line in the interview, and DS is not mentioned, but I thought for Donna's fans this might be a fun clip to watch.

I just read a couple of those articles.  The one that teases about spoilers actually provides none at all beyond the fact that there will be "100 reveals in the last ten minutes."  (Exaggerate much, Orlando?  lol.  He's such a funny one.)

I haven't been keeping up with the series (although five words could change that:  Tom Mison full frontal nudity and the next words that go with that concept are "in your f***in dreams Gothick) but I may watch the finale via iTunes.

cheers, G.

A 1960s descendant of one of the old Salem families used to tell her students, "the real Witches were never accused in Salem--because they were sleeping with the judges."  That lore was published in a small press book a few years ago.  The inspiration for this series seems more to do with the current fad for supernatural shows but it does sound as if they are trying to use some of the actual historical events at least in part--that alone would make it more interesting than most.

There is a video interview with Sam on one of the DVDs (and thus, the interview pre-dates the inception of the Burton/Depp film project) where he takes credit for the creation of Angelique Collins.

Very cool images MB.  It's strange how remote "the Eighties" feels today...
