Today's image and caption are a real scream.  I totally don't recall "Barnabas Collins III" from my one viewing but that's hardly surprising.

I find myself thinking of Thurston Howell III and Depp playing the role ten years down the line in panda eye and clown white makeup...lol!

My Witchy friends are raving about this show on FB tonight.  The buzz easily equals the response to both "Coven" and SLEEPY HOLLOW.

Whether that buzz can be sustained of course is another question...

Glorioski.  I had no idea that current "movie math" dictates that a film must surpass earning twice the amount it cost before the suits will consider that they are seeing a profit on it.

DS as a "horror soap opera"--cringe.

Some might want to collect the tapes for the box art.  The "collector's" series (the pre-Barnabas shows) had particularly nice photos on the boxes. Some of the regular series did look a bit tacky with that weird colorized effect they kept using.

That's hysterical about Alig being a Shadows fan. I'd never heard that.  I watched Party Monster once and although it was a well made film of its kind, I have no inclination to ever see it again.

I'm actually old enough to recall reading mentions of Alig in Michael Musto's Village Voice column, La Dolce Musto, back in the 1980s... the era of the "club kids."

It looks so schlocky... not a hint of the atmosphere that made the 1968 film so memorable... I see the role of Minnie Castevets has been rewritten as Margaux and a French actress cast... She's a year older than me so middle aged and no doubt much more glam than the funky yet frightening persona the immortal Ruth Gordon projected...

Folks, I just learned from a post on another forum that our own beloved Penny Dreadful's handsome, wolfy partner, the delightful Magoo "Garou" Gelehrter, is battling cancer.  An updated health bulletin was recently posted by Magoo here; I'm sure prayers and good wishes would be very welcome.

Wishing Penny and Magoo safe smooth healing and better times!

Sincerely,

Calendar Events / Announcements '14 I / OT: The Ghost and Mrs. Muir
« on: April 13, 2014, 12:56:53 AM »
Fans,

It's often discussed how the popularity of DS was in part related to the widespread interest in the occult and the supernatural during the period of the late 1960s and early 1970s.  I just watched the premiere episode of THE GHOST AND MRS. MUIR (which I actually don't recall having seen before--I'm not sure, but this might have been an unaired pilot):

There were elements here that made me think of DS, notably the Captain's portrait, the frequent storms, the seaside cottage, and even the fact that the little boy is the first person (apart from his own descendant) to have contact with the ghost.

For those who never got to see this, I thought it might be worth having a look.

Good for Jason making such a smart career change.  And for staying out of the Hilton slag's insidious publicity miasma.

"That's hot..."  I think not, Paris.

Back on topic, it's cool that this version returned to an update of the original 1966 Carolyn/Joe relationship.  I'm not sure about the 1990 version, but didn't that Carolyn take an interest in Joe after Daphne's death; their relationship wasn't part of the setting of the scene at the beginning?

It's really too bad the WB never circulated any publicity stills from this production...

Dear gawd, that guy playing Joe Haskell is INCENDIARY.  Did he ever have a career?  Did he do feature films?  Did he ever make gay porno loops?  OK I am getting WAY off topic here...

Enjoying this so much!  I am amazed at how amnesiac I am about my one viewing of this thing.  Of course it was around 10 years ago...

I haven't had the chance to actually take a look at this book yet.  It purports to be a fully researched history of Seaview Terrace, the Newport Mansion that served as Collinwood on the original series, but sounds like a gossipy cornucopia of Newport lore and legend woven together with some autobiographic musings from author Michael Seggie:

Very cool.  "You do believe in vampires, don't you?"
