Kosmo deserves some kind of award for ability to find out the most obscure details about the casting of any given film. Was Rimmer's face even seen on camera and did he have any lines at all?  He has a very distinguished roster of credits from the golden era of the 1960s and 1970s under his name on IMDB.

If I remember correctly, he did voice work on cult series THUNDERBIRDS for Gerry Anderson and that is usually the focal point of his appearance at such functions.

Again, I'm impressed at just how many plot points were foreshadowed or introduced in this screenplay.  I know I've asked before and you said the screenplay was written as an ordinary (40 min.) length TV episode but it seems as if it would have been much more effective with an 85 minute running time (for a two hour air slot)--old school feature-length.

But, as you would say Misterioso darling, alas...

For those who wish to see it, the deleted scene from season 1 of PENNY DREADFUL screened at SDCC has been posted on Youtube.  The scene, though it was originally part of an early episode of the season (episode 2, I believe; it would have come, possibly, at the end) is being described as "spoilery" because it foreshadows developments to be played out in the new season next year:

It's also a bit spoilery (just a bit) for the first season finale episode.

I have to say, this clip really encapsulates just why this season gives off major DARK SHADOWS vibrations to me... I would submit that THIS is the direction anyone choosing to attempt to revive DS again should explore.  I personally feel that DS is probably better off resting on its laurels, at this point...

Cool!  I will look for the clip on Youtube tomorrow.

Since she was unable to appear in San Diego, it will be fascinating to hear her thoughts regarding the new series of Penny Dreadful.

Alec if anything is even sexier now than back in 2004!  That was a great role for him in DRACULA.  Wish the character had gotten more than one episode; nice to think he got a free trip to Hungary out of it.

Thanks for this awesome narrative, MB.  Again, I have no recollection at all of this scene from the screening.  I'm starting to wonder if I had dozed off.  BTW I am very happy to report that I have finally gotten a diagnosis for my sleep apnea and am at the end of day 3 of sleeping with a CPAP.  And the change, for the better, is already phenomenal.

Wow.  Banner work from you with this, MB!   Could they have crammed anymore into that scene?  We have Barnabas introducing himself to the family, Roger's hostility, the Barnabas-Vicki connection, David's issues, Sarah, the Josette backstory (implied, only) ... all in about 5 minutes of footage?  Whew.

I wonder whether any outtakes exist for the edit of the pilot that has been screened multiple times?

Quite intrigued to see what's coming next!  I wonder whether a certain WITCH is about to show up...

The confusion comes from the fact that Maine's territory was part of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts until 1820, when Maine voted to secede and become its own state.  This means that 1810, when the backstory of NIGHT OF DS was set, Collinsport was still a part of Massaachusetts:

Well, Grayson got some weeks off in '68 to do END OF THE ROAD (filmed in Great Barrington, MA, out in the beautiful Berkshires), and in '69 to do ADAM AT SIX A.M.  In '70 she got release time to do an episode of NIGHT GALLERY and then, towards the end of the year, a family trip out to Ohio to visit Sam's family.

If you check through a publication from the 1960s called THEATRE WORLD, you can see photos from some of the plays that Louis did when he had his sabbaticals.  Even Lara and Selby did plays or films on their breaks from the show.

I don't know just how the legalities played out but as we've discussed in the past, it would seem that MOST of the DS cast were not actually under contract.  Which is why people such as John Karlen, Clarice, Thayer, et al. came and went.  Both Nancy and Louis took occasional breaks to do theatre, as did Humbert.  All of this helps explain why Frid felt he was getting shafted after a certain point because everyone else had been allowed to come and go and by the Summer of 1969, he hadn't had a break of any kind in two years.  Not only that, he was often made to do those dog and pony show weekend appearances in places like Peoria, Teaneck, Baton Rouge etc.  They worked him really hard.

I always thought that when KLS came back to NYC from her time away, she dropped by the studio just to say hi to whoever happened to be working then.  It's possible Dan did set up a formal meeting via her agent, of course.

When she left again in '70 to move to Paris, according to her original memoirs, he actually told her that if she did leave, she would never work again.  lol.

Of course as we've seen many times before, KLS's memories, even from the 1980s, need to be weighed against other recorded facts... but I can really imagine DC having said this to her.  No doubt while putting the golf ball around the office in true Sixties exec style.

Another of the greats gone to that great greenroom in the sky.

I guess this is a good opportunity for her, but I would really like to see her given some serious, well-crafted material.  This sounds as if it will be another of Burton's exercises in horror-farce with clown makeup and googly FX.

At least one may presume the pay will be good.

It looks as if I Luv Barnabas has already departed, but I wish I Luv Barnabas well going forward.

I know I read somewhere that DC was planning to do a bigscreen version of 1795 as the sequel to hoDS.  How it would have played out is anybody's guess.  Presumably cast members such as Thayer, Karlen, Grayson et al whose characters had been killed off in hoDS would have portrayed some of the 18th century personnel.  The original scenario could have been rewritten to provide new roles for some such as Karlen.

Wow!  Ferdinand may have been my favorite "guest" character last season so I'm THRILLED he's going to be a regular.  Yay! I also think the actress who plays Madam Kali is AWESOME.

Thanks for the link!
