Of course I remember.  It was our babysitter.  Her name was Judy and it was the last summer we had a babysitter, as far as I recall.  (Child supervision standards were a lot less highly regimented in the Sixties.)

She loved the show and regaled us with stories of Barnabas and Angelique. She even drew a chalk picture of Angelique on a small blackboard we had in our finished basement.  I still remember how fascinated I was by it even though the thought of her powers terrorized me.

The first episode I saw featured Professor Stokes and I was intrigued.  In the second episode, Cassandra was casting spells, poisoning Liz and finally exorcised by the ghost of Trask.  After that, it was utter addictive frenzy all the way.

Ah, the summer of '68...

Gerard, that is hysterical!  There's an audio recording of Joan on that soap opera in one episode.  She sounds drunk and under-rehearsed.  But she's still JOAN.

She was sixty-something and supposed to be playing the town slut... lord a mercy.

The word "cougar" had not yet been invented.

Wow, you found an actual still from the show.  That is awesome.  Congratulations!

I don't think it would have worked, and I really doubt it was ever suggested.  In several interviews, Diana basically said "I was the Phoenix and that was it."

Interestingly, however, Cassandra wore a dress previously seen on Laura... and when she was first resurrected as Vampilique, she was wearing that dress...

After Cassandra and Angelique, I loved Witchiepoo.  She was just so outrageous.

Endora was an early favorite, of course...

The Old House in the original series (the Spratt House) actually reminds me of Mount Vernon or Monticello in terms of the scale, so to me it's believable as a later 18th century manor house in New England.

Collinwood as something built in 1795, on the other hand... well, the series has endured for me as my favorite fantasy playroom...

Stunning, and please don't tell me they intended us to believe that any of that was built before circa 1890/1900.

Of course, the real Collinwood dates to the 1920s, but with older architectural elements re-used...

Those are great shots.  Thanks, MB.  I do not know the series mentioned.

Wow, the image was updated to show a gorgeous interior of the OH.  I have no memory at all of this.

I love surprises and I love having a treat to anticipate, so I look forward to the horrifying revelation regarding the coffin of Barnabas Collins!

that's a very cool description of the Old House.

Given how dilapidated it is, I wonder where Barnabas is supposed to be keeping his coffin at this point?  In the Secret Room?

There was a piece on, I think, the Entertainment Tonight website stating that the series is tanking in the ratings.

They haven't officially put it on the danger list, but in today's climate, if the ratings don't stay consistently high, the suits get all frowny.

What makes all of this so ridiculous is that the show is doing fine in delayed viewing statistics--DVD-R, online viewing, iTunes etc.  which is how everyone I personally know tends to watch television.

Does anyone know the backstory on this?  What I recall is that the publication was announced; then we were told that the editors were searching for copies of the strips to use as they did not have access to a complete set.

The next event after some months had passed was a feature on one or more DS blogs saying that the project was in peril due to very low pre-orders.

I personally had been waiting for follow-up about the book and whether the editors had gotten hold of the required source materials to make it happen.

I saw a comment from a fan on a blog stating that the Amazon blurb for the book was really minimal and it seemed as if the publisher, or editors, were not doing anything to promote it.

Now it's officially canceled.  Just what happened?

cheers, SRS

I think one more Barnabas scene--maybe the last one?--may be coming up!  Whoo and Hoo.

I didn't realize that Alec Newman had so little to do in this.  It would help if I could remember more about the screening.

That's a great still of Ivana as Angelique.  I don't recall having seen that and I certainly don't recall the red hair.

Was I asleep at this point?  I do actually recall the ending of the pilot.  I hated it.

But, onwards.  Great shot of Carolyn after Barnabas has been her his "attentions>

PT Samantha also disappears abruptly.  In that case I figured it was simply that Virginia Vestoff's schedule got way too busy to cross town to do the show.  She was appearing in 1776 simultaneously with working on DS for at least a few weeks or months as I recall.
