HORROR EXPRESS circulated in public domain copies for years.  I think an official release may have finally come out a couple of years ago, but these days, it can be very difficult to tell if a release with a brand name is really "official" or not.

For what it is worth, Savalas is in most of the movie.  It's been several decades since my previous viewing though I actually have a disc for it in my personal library.

I'm just skimming this thread so I may be misunderstanding, but if  I am on point, it would seem that the Laura story was planned to be referenced in both the 1990 and 2004 pilots.  In both, from what I can tell, the references were almost entirely eliminated in the final versions. 

It makes me wonder whether there was more Laura material in the original Seth Graham-Johnston script for the Depp Burton confection. I saw somewhere that Seth was going to do an online Q&A about the project--a very brave individual given the kind of vitriol we know some fans will spew at him. 

Again, my following of all this has been sketchy, but although a book about the filming was published, I don't believe an edition of the 2012 screenplay has yet seen the light of day?

I wonder if the original film mentioned was early 1930s.  I think Joan went brunette fairly early on in her career. 

A friend loaned me his DVD of SUSPIRIA which I have never seen all the way through.  It was Joan's last feature film.  Her final appearance before the cameras, so far as I am aware, was "This House Possessed," a 1983 TV film with Parker Stevenson.  It was a real shock to see Joan playing a half-mad bag lady wheeling a shopping cart around town in that one.

As scripted, that scene could have been quite powerful.

I really can't think of what to say about how I remember it actually playing onscreen.  It just did not work for me.

Despite my views on the Depp Shadows confection, I am aware that how it is presented in the mass media (including the interwebs) is very much distorted by the fact that, if it were the 1930s, Burton would have been declared Box Office Poison by now--regardless of the fact that the DS movie MADE MONEY.  In H'wood, spin is all.

I wonder if Depp is getting to the same point in his career. I was surprised at the ferocity of the attacks made on him just because he was mildly drunk delivering a short speech at somebody's gala recently.  I played the video and the reaction seemed really extreme.  Media prudery in full dudgeon--to paraphrase Lord Macaulay (if I'm remembering correctly), the unspeakable in pursuit of the inedible.

Interesting news item.  I wonder whether they will find a piece of paper bearing the immortal line, "Everyone has the right to be found innocent until proven innocent" (did I misquote that correctly)?
