I am very fond of A Darkness at Blaisedon. A friend gave me a copy of it years ago and I've watched it numerous times.

I can't say exactly just why I like it so much; it just has that DS feel, but with different characters and storyline.

Nice to see Michael Stroka in the role of Laslo today. I've never understood why Stroka was written out so abruptly. I presume that he had found another work opportunity, most likely on another soap, and I'm sure he worked on DS without a contract--so many did.

Another great photo today--the lighting on Joan's face and the drab curtain backdrop carries a hint of film noir.

The return of Paul Stoddard was another great storyline that was run abruptly into the ground, most likely due to Dan Curtis's interference with the plot. And from what I've read, that had to do with all the hate mail fans sent in complaining about a storyline in which Barnabas was evil and duplicitous--just as he had originally been in 1967.

Gorgeous shot. To me, Virginia was one of the most talented actresses on the show, but I seldom hear fans speaking of her. I think it is because her character is unpopular, and in part that's because she was so incredibly brilliant in putting forward this portrait of a complicated, embittered woman whose emotions were often raw and turbulent. I wanted to see Samantha get her own back against Gerard...

It's so long since I've looked at any 1840 episodes that I have no recollection of those draperies. Such a pretty color, and I love the pattern.

If DC had done another Shadows feature film around that time, I'd have been very surprised if it did not turn out to be yet another re-make of HOUSE OF DS.

In some ways DC seems to have been a very elaborately crenellated version of a one-trick pony. At least when it came to DS.

Yesterday's capture of Julia at the escritoire with her diary was classic. Great shot and it sums up so much of what was going on with Julia during early Leviathan.
