I am very fond of A Darkness at Blaisedon. A friend gave me a copy of it years ago and I've watched it numerous times.

I can't say exactly just why I like it so much; it just has that DS feel, but with different characters and storyline.

Today's scene was a dramatic, traumatic event for many viewers in 1971.

We all said, "No, it can't be! Dark Shadows MUST go on!"

But alas, this was the end of the line.

Nevertheless here we all are, fifty-some years later, still enjoying our favorite show.

Cheers! G.

Nice to see Michael Stroka in the role of Laslo today. I've never understood why Stroka was written out so abruptly. I presume that he had found another work opportunity, most likely on another soap, and I'm sure he worked on DS without a contract--so many did.

Very atmospheric shot. Thanks MB!

Great shot of Yeagar and Buffie. It's at least a quarter of a century since I last watched these episodes. It looks somewhat early on because Chris seems to have the nose prothesis on. They had to abandon that, if I recall correctly, when it started coming off during one scene. He probably simply sweated too much for the putty to be stable. Those studio lights were hot. I always feel for Thayer in those scenes where Petofi had that big fur coat on. And he was already wearing that huge Petofi wig...

Another great photo today--the lighting on Joan's face and the drab curtain backdrop carries a hint of film noir.

The return of Paul Stoddard was another great storyline that was run abruptly into the ground, most likely due to Dan Curtis's interference with the plot. And from what I've read, that had to do with all the hate mail fans sent in complaining about a storyline in which Barnabas was evil and duplicitous--just as he had originally been in 1967.

Love today's shot of Magda and Sandor! This was right after Magda had put the big curse on Quentin, if I recall aright.

Then she found out she'd cursed her own family. One of the best DS storylines although it pretty much got derailed once a certain Count arrived in town... a character I love, of course!

Thanks, Midnite and MB!

For those who may have missed it--the site does allow 3 or 4 free views per month still, I believe. I don't have a subscription and I was able to read it.

This blog is a lot of fun for the few Strange Paradise fans on here. Michelle started it about a year ago but had to take some breaks. It features very detailed notes about costuming, the Tarot spreads, food and other elements ... very well written blog.

Gorgeous shot. To me, Virginia was one of the most talented actresses on the show, but I seldom hear fans speaking of her. I think it is because her character is unpopular, and in part that's because she was so incredibly brilliant in putting forward this portrait of a complicated, embittered woman whose emotions were often raw and turbulent. I wanted to see Samantha get her own back against Gerard...

It's so long since I've looked at any 1840 episodes that I have no recollection of those draperies. Such a pretty color, and I love the pattern.

Hi MB,

I wonder if she was thinking of the version of the early history that was part of the PT 1841 storyline--just a guess. As you say, there were numerous retcons of various versions of family history as the show unfolded.

I remember at some point circa 1969 when I read the first "Marilyn" Ross novel being intrigued by the references to Isaac Collins. I don't think he was ever mentioned in any of the shows I watched in the original broadcast. I started watching in late June 1968.

Fabulous shot of Laura today. Always nice to see her!

If DC had done another Shadows feature film around that time, I'd have been very surprised if it did not turn out to be yet another re-make of HOUSE OF DS.

In some ways DC seems to have been a very elaborately crenellated version of a one-trick pony. At least when it came to DS.

Great shot and script quote today, MB.

It's a really long time since I last saw this episode--definitely over 20 years--but I seem to recall on my single previous viewing that she's saying all that while looking at a portrait that seems likely to have been painted of somebody contemporary to the period 1900-1910.

Wow, I don't even remember the scene shown in today's shot, though I do remember at least part of the episode.

All the fun I'm going to have that day I start watching DS from episode one again...

It's Garth! Garth was very much a one-trick pony but John Harkins really brought him to life.

Yesterday's capture of Julia at the escritoire with her diary was classic. Great shot and it sums up so much of what was going on with Julia during early Leviathan.

Best, G.
