Calendar Events / Announcements '16 I / Alec Newman in Dracula (2013)
« on: February 26, 2016, 04:28:05 AM »
Fans,

I finally found the DVD set for the Jonathan Rhys Meyers DRACULA series which aired on NBC in 2013-14.  The set includes several deleted scenes from various episodes.  I was surprised to see one between JRM and Alec Newman from Alec's episode; I think the title of it was "From Darkness to Light."

The scene lasts around 3 minutes and is pretty intense between the two.  Alec played a warrior from Vlad Tepes's court who had become a vampire and come to London to serve his former liege.  There is a kind of hypermale energy between the two that has some slashy overtones.  Because it aired on NBC, however, it's just suggested, nothing more.

I checked YT and I don't see any of this posted there.  I am thrilled to have the discs.  I found them on Amazon priced at $7.99 last week.

Best, G.

If David Selby was given a contract at all, it was probably for 13 weeks.  A lot of the actors on DS worked without a contract.  I don't know how they got away with that.  Once it became obvious just how huge a hit Quentin had become with the fans, presumably they did put him under some kind of contract.  Towards the end of the series, it was reported in a teen mag that Keith Prentice had been signed for a 5 year contract.  I don't know how many actors they did that with.  I think Alex Moltke may have been signed for that length of time.

Hi Patti,

There are different photo montages that show up each time you navigate to a fresh screen on the board.  This is February of 2016 which means that the original series montage shows episodes that aired in February of 1967 through Feb. of 1971.  So, the Laura and David shot aired in Feb. of 1967, while the Pennock/Edmonds shot (showing the actors in the roles of Jeb and Roger) aired in Feb. of 1970, towards the end of Leviathan.  I also see Millicent from 1795 and Julia and Morgan from PT 1841. Those eps aired respectively in 1968 and 1971.

One illustrious survivor that's about to bite the dust is the recording studio.  the Collinsport Historical Society posted a link to a story a couple of weeks ago about the building being demolished.  I think they're going to build a parking garage there--either that or a block of condos.  Can't recall.

Sad to see it go!

Bob Costello's first episode was episode 45.  I personally would recommend starting around episode 50.

From what I recall, Daniels was female and a fairly prolific novelist in her own right.

IMNSHO she was a much better writer than Dan Ross, who was a hack... but given how quickly he churned the stuff out, he could hardly be expected to produce work of a high calibre.  I loved this one article that explained that he was under deadline as always for some publisher and he took the typewriter and a ream of paper in the car with him and he sat in the car at the typewriter and typed the entire last chapter, then stuffed the completed MS into an envelope and dashed inside to mail it just before closing.

Email makes this kind of thing so much easier...

Doctor & K9, I will check with him and ask him if he got your message.  I had no idea that any of the books came out in Germany.  I wonder if the show ever ran there?

All the episodes are, or were on Youtube... there were still at least a substantial number last time I checked.

Carlotta was the real Mistress of Collinwood.  That becomes crystal clear in a much later scene with Tracy.

The rights owner reportedly has no interest in releasing it in any home video format.  I don't know why that is.  Maybe somebody who actually wants to release it will buy it.  One of these days...

Fans,

My dear friend Curt Ladnier has started a new blog for the 1969-70 cult series STRANGE PARADISE, often described as "Canada's answer to DARK SHADOWS."  It was actually the brainchild of Steve Krantz in New York, and was an early attempt at a series produced in Canada and aimed at US/Canadian syndication markets--a phenomenon that was to become very widespread in the 1990s, but this forerunner didn't do so well.

One of the most amusing entries is this one, in which Curt presents some very rarely seen materials documenting an unsuccessful attempt to market the series in the 1980s with an Elvira-styled hostess, "Dracena Morg."  The luridly colored photo of her is a real hoot.

How amusing.  Of course you know I want a link, especially if Mr Ellis appeared wearing tight, revealing, BULGING underwear.

I mean, we have the Nathan Forbes banana floatie... this could be considered... a comparison?

cheers, Go thick

MB, you know it is dangerous for Go thick's sanity when you use the words "packing" and "huge" in a sentence that has any reference at all to Mr Tom Ellis.

Now I need to rearrange my clothing.  Again.

Love and Light,

G.

I happened to see a promotional squib about this movie while I was staying with family down in Fla. recently.  It was on the TODAY show.  I no longer watch TV at home but they do run it a lot.

Anyhow the movie was the project of one of the Wayans brothers (from IN LIVING COLOR) and is a spoof of FIFTY SHADES OF GRAY.  I actually remember the title being FIFTY SHADES OF BLACK, but I'm probably misremembering since I wasn't really paying attention.

I think Bella plays the heroine, who seems to have been sort of like a drippier version of the girl-child in the TWILIGHT books.  FIFTY SHADES OF GRAY was originally written as TWILIGHT fanfic, then the author got the idea to change the names and market it as original fiction. She or he became a very wealthy individual as a result.
