That's cool.  I am not familiar with WHISPERING SMITH.   A couple of months ago, I saw one of Diana's interviews for the DVDs several years ago where she spoke of doing a lot of television in the early to mid 1960s.

Grayson Hall, GODDESS.

No wonder Danny Horn once proclaimed Grayson Hall the Greatest Actress who Ever Walked the Earth!

I remember Grayson made very effective use of The Pout in a memorable scene in 1897.  Angelique is berating Julia, telling her that she's wasting her time with Barnabas because he is a COLD, UNRESPONSIVE man.

Julia offers her The Pout, The Freeze, and DEMANDS to know, with an icily arched eyebrow: "WHO made him that way?"

It's one of the few times I've ever seen Angelique look taken aback...

Another fab Carlotta capture today!

Anyone paying attention AT ALL should have realized that that tightly pursed pout means ALL HELL is gonna break loose!

One further comment that I personally find it very unlikely that an artist--professional or otherwise--would allow anyone else to haul around his own easel and materials, etc.  I would have expected Quentin to simply do this himself rather than asking Carlotta to do it, particularly since in all likelihood she would just pass the order along to Gerard.

For someone who was interested in antiques and the arts, Sam Hall sometimes seems to have been strangely uninformed (and at times, just plain dense) about the specifics of art conservation and related art logistics.  Remember the storyline where we were told that a painting was going to be "transferred to another canvas" so that what was painted under it could be seen?  It wasn't until I watched that story again as an adult that I realized just how absurd those lines sounded.

I do love the scene where Carlotta tells Tracy that it would perhaps be best for her to leave HER OWN HOME... "... IF you can!"  LOL.

Maybe it's time to finally order the DVD...

Grayson made notes in her script where she explains that when Carlotta touches the locket like that, it means something to do with Angelique's spirit--it might even be called an act of communion between Carlotta and the spirit.  The notes implied that this was the original base of Angelique's enhanced awareness of, and activity in the physical world.  This is what it means towards the end when John Karlen's character has a line implying that Carlotta was "keeping Angelique's spirit alive."  It's too bad that that line makes no sense at all in the film as chopped up for the final edit, unless you have really extraordinary powers of connecting seemingly random dots.

Great screen capture of this moment!

Those are fabulous notes and memories, Professor Stokes.

Thanks,

That's a beautiful shot of her in that, Robot Quentin.

In that early scene, I think in the first episode, where he comes to the house and she does a Tarot reading for him, she's so completely in control. Though we also see her already having a meltdown with her prayers in her bedroom.

A friend is watching an AMC series called PREACHER and from the couple of YT clips I played, there's a cool strong complicated female character in that named Tulip.  You might want to have a look.  It has elements of supernatural horror which I think usually is not your genre. I suggest checking out the youtube clips before trying to watch an episode.  I don't get a signal so I am not bothering with it...

Yeah.  I thought there should have been at least one more Ethan/Dorian scene.  I found some of the choices Logan made with the storyline and scripting to be less than inspiring as time went on.  It also became an even more heavily "Catholic" metaphysical universe.  The big finale with Vanessa's confrontation with the Devil at the end of season 2 really did not work for some viewers.  I did find it a cool scene.

It was a plotline linking Vanessa with a demonic Egyptian Goddess Amunet (the lore about this figure was completely made up so far as I am aware).  Her full manifestation on Earth was to usher in a new apocalyptic age.  The storyline was dropped abruptly at some point during season 1 and I don't think it was ever mentioned again.

Lara did a couple of plays around this time as well as a strange movie called "Hi, Mom."  I think a trailer for it was included in the final DVD package of the original DVD release.  I don't know if all those trailers were included in the "coffin set." A lot of special features may have been omitted so everything would fit in the "coffin."

Lara had just finished up a very busy period covering for a lot of people who were out for the movie shoot, so at the end of the PT1970, she got a break of a few months.  I don't think a lot of fans realize just how gruelling the schedule was working on the show.  If you were in more than 2 episodes in a given week, it was a real rollercoaster.  In one of her interviews, Grayson described the schedule:  be at the studio by around 6:30, maybe 7 at the latest, a.m.  Read-through and get notes from whoever was directing.  "Lunch" break around 10 or 10:30 a.m. while the techs set up for camera blocking.  Makeup of course somewhere in there (it looks in the photos as if makeup was done before the morning read-through in most cases but not all).  Tech rehearsal.  Dress rehearsal. TAPE, usually between 3:15 and 3:45.  Sometimes they then trooped into a TV room and watched the show aired on that day.  Not always.  A short break and then, if you had a show being taped the next day, wait around for the people to come in to do first rough read-through of the next day's script. Get home, have a bath according to Grayson, COOK (the most important act of the day for her), and basically fall into bed.  Sometimes Frid would go have dinner there so they could run lines while she was cooking. No doubt others did as well.

If you were taping the next day it was get up around 5 a.m. and start all over again!  Wheee!

As Grayson commented, "yeah it was fun but... IT WAS A LOT OF WORK."

cheers, G.

Cute.  I don't recall ever noticing the flapping thread during that scene. I think I have only ever viewed that episode once, though.
