Do we know when exactly the powers that be decided to keep the Barnabas character? He was so evil and dangerous that it would be a climactic relief in the storyline to have him killed off by the hero(whoever that would be).
By the way, dom, roosters don't lay eggs. I think poor Willy's diet consists of Moxie and whoopie pies. 4

"ditzy little harpy" Oh, Gothic, you always come up with the most hilarious descriptions. I never really cared for the character "Sarah". Her acting was always a little off putting. Now, I will have "ditzy little harpy" in my head every time I see her.

I still have not watched mine. My husband said he wanted to watch the movie with me even though he is not a fan. I am getting a little impatient to see this. Hubby is always too busy.

Well, I bought the Blu-ray edition of the movie with a picture of Johhny Depp as Barnabas. The face of Barnabas seems to be looking at you no matter where you moved the picture. I still have not played the DVD, yet. I guess I'll wait for a dark and stormy night.

During hunting season in Maine, you must post your land with "No Hunting" signs or you will see people with guns wandering around your property. If anyone called Sheriff Patterson during hunting season to report seeing someone with a gun in the woods around Collinwood, he would tell them to call the Game Warden. (Roger would look hideous in the required blaze orange).

Thank you for the birthday greetings. Good thing my birthday was yesterday because today we are having a blizzard. Not the norm, even for Maine. Its a good thing I didn't get my short sleeve dresses out of storage Now, I think I'll go out and make a real snowman then watch him slowly melt when the temperature reaches 50 tomorrow.

Current Talk '10 II / Re: WB 2004 Pilot Redux« on: September 22, 2010, 07:36:50 PM »
The only reason I mentioned the train thing was because some people mentioned during the last remake that they saw palm trees in some of the outdoor scenes. I live in Maine and at the time I did not notice the palm trees. We don't have passenger trains here. I guess if you live somewhere else, you can imagine anything you want about Maine. My father still thinks I have moose in my front yard. I did 20 years ago. A moose came out of the woods looking for love in all the wrong places and the police and animal control caught him downtown. They gave him a lift back to the woods.
The actress seemed emaciated. She almost looked like a ghost. Whatever the hair color, I thought they would have chosen someone more strikingly beautiful. I did not see the pilot so maybe this was not a good picture of her. Is there a way to see other stills of her? 10

This is the first time I have seen any portion of the pilot. I did not realize they were doing the train bit. I don't think there is any trains running in Maine. There is the Downeaster that goes from Portland to Boston but I don't know much about it. A bus would have been more realistic or even a small plane to a local airport. I know DS has never been about anything plausible but a train is about as realistic as her coming in a horse drawn carriage or a flying saucer.

Barnabas scared me so much when I was nine I used to sleep with the covers over my head so he could not get my neck. When I saw the show again on the Sci-Fi channel, I was living in Maine. I was watching on a foggy day and I felt a spooky chill while I watched. Of course, my ninety year old house had no insulation.

I loved these. When I looked at Barnabas I could here Cartman in my head. "You betrayed me. Goddamit!"

Current Talk '08 I / Re: Bill Malloy and the early days of Collinwood« on: April 27, 2008, 03:00:54 PM »
I think Bill Malloy, Mrs. Johnson and the original Matthew look llike locals. By the way, I have lived in Maine for 20 years and have only heard the word "ayuh" from two people. The 83 year old man who serviced my homes boiler would use the words "down cellah"(the basement) and "ayuh" (hello, I agree with you, or I have completed my work and I want to be paid, and goodbye). The other times it has been used often by comedian Tim Samples. Tim Samples has the real Maine accent. The rest of the time people imitating the Maine accent tend to sound lke the old Pepperidge Farm commercials.
Maine is dark, cold and damp except during the short summers and autumns. Foggy, cold and gloomy with a population that calls outsiders "people from away" is a perfect setting for Dark Shadows. They needed more Mrs. Johnson, Bill Malloy, and Matthew types. 15
