Sixty years ago today, the face of daytime TV changed when ABC-TV premiered the first episode of Dark Shadows, a gothic soap opera about a young woman traveling to a remote house to be the governess of a troubled boy. We saw Victoria Winters for the very first time in the opening. She's sitting on a train, deep in thought, and we hear her voiceover narration that sets up the story for us. Little did anyone know that less than a year later, a new character would appear, a vampire, and the series would become a television legend. I discovered Dark Shadows a few months after the arrival of Barnabas Collins. I was seven years old. From that day forward until the series was canceled in 1971, I didn't miss a single episode. I credit Dark Shadows as one of the biggest influences on my future career in the entertainment industry. Happy 60th Birthday Dark Shadows!
