Hairy flying frogs and a delicious celebrity cameo spice up the latest chapter of the rollicking supernatural comedy, which takes us someplace we hope never to visit again: a creepy Urgent Care facility for the undead, when half-vampire “familiar” Guillermo (Harvey Guillén) suffers a mutilating injury while trying to fly. Though hardly the maternal type, Nadja (Natasia Demetriou) volunteers to take “Gizmo” to the doctor, which alarms the half-human should she discover he was turned by a vampire other than his master Nandor (Kayvan Novak). An equally funny subplot finds energy vampire Colin Robinson (Mark Proksch) drained of his own energy when he suddenly becomes fascinating to mortals.

The Island of Dr. Moreau has nothing on the bizarre freak show spilling out of the laboratory of Laszlo (Matt Berry), who’s been experimenting with half-human/half-vampire Guillermo’s (Harvey Guillén) DNA to try to learn why the familiar’s transformation is such a bust. The creatures he’s inadvertently created are as repulsive as they are hilarious—in other words, just another day in supernatural Staten Island. Elsewhere, Nadja (Natasia Demetriou) hopes that by teaching American customs—as only she interprets them—to her newfound “little Antipaxos” community might help reverse the hex under which she’s been living. An eccentric “magic woman” named Helen (Reno 911’s Kerri Kenney-Silver) may be able to help as well.

How to cheer up a despondent vampire like Laszlo (Matt Berry)? In a protracted funk after failing to find a scientific cure for half/human half/vamp Guillermo’s (Harvey Guillén) sluggish transition, Laszlo becomes the unresponsive recipient of a comical roast organized by toastmaster Nandor (Kayvan Novak) and his loyal mate Nadja (Natasia Demetriou). (Her “You might just be a Laszlo Cravensworth” riffs are particularly choice.) But the jokefest takes a more serious and literal turn when unsavory truths about the Staten Island vamps are inadvertently revealed to the visiting Baron (Doug Jones), and soon no one’s laughing. Especially Guillermo.
