Favorite line of dialogue? For 2022

Favorite line of dialogue?
. . .

I was reading an thread (post) and just today ran across a fun line of dialogue that I don’t think got mentioned in that post.

——
892

Carolyn:  Maggie, did you ever have the feeling that you suddenly didn’t know someone?  Someone you thought you knew very well.

Maggie:  Huh.  Sometimes I get that feeling when I look in the mirror.

The dialogue hit me as clever and delivered well.

When I find it I plan to add a quote from the 1991 series.

Any other quotes new and old?
Barnabas: Your hair smells like mint today.
Julia: Yeah, I gargled today.
Barnabas: Huh???!!!!

Dark Shadows 1991 Episode 8

Phyllis Wick (talking to Sheriff Patterson):
Sir you’re service’s are no longer required you may roll away in that fiendish metal contraption.

Phyllis Wick (talking to Elisabeth):
Madam things are quite different in Connecticut.

Barnabas to Burke Devlin:

"Serenity is my favorite emotion."

Now I know where that comes from.  Quoted from linked topic.
Barnabas: Your hair smells like mint today.
Julia: Yeah, I gargled today.
Barnabas: Huh???!!!!

Not sure if this is a favorite quote, but it made me laugh:
———
Episode 979
Almost 17 minutes into it

David:  All I know is that when I grow up I’m leaving.  I’m going where the action is.

Rodger (walking into the scene):  Action.  I know where the action should be.  In your bedroom.

———

I’m familiar with the idea that the city has a lot more to do so it’s where the “action is”.
I recognize the writers were trying to be clever and the dialogue does complement the scene.
Yet  . . .
I have to wonder  . . . Even when it aired it was it unintentionally funny?
Barnabas: Your hair smells like mint today.
Julia: Yeah, I gargled today.
Barnabas: Huh???!!!!

[pointing-up]  What would have been even funnier is if those lines had played in a pre-Barn ep during the time the show Where the Action Is came on ABC right after DS.  [ghost_wink]

The mysterious future of 1995

About 8:40 in
——
Barnabas (to Julia):  You’d better give him another sedative.

Quentin:  The only set I need is to get my hands around Stokes’ neck.

——
Between the great delivery and the dialogue It’s clever and amusing.
Barnabas: Your hair smells like mint today.
Julia: Yeah, I gargled today.
Barnabas: Huh???!!!!

That line is hilarious! I have a hard time believing that the writer(s) did not realize how funny it was. I can imagine that Louis Edmonds roared when he read the script!

My favorite line (don't know if it's totally word-for-word correct) has Barnabas saying, "I didn't say she was dead. I said I killed her."

Although I'm sure this is a Frid blooper, it still can make sense on a show like DS.

Hehe that does sort of work with vampires.

Actually, that wasn't a blooper and it's one of my all-time favorite bits of dialogue. It comes from Ep #447: When Barnabas warns Joshua that Angelique will stop him from undoing Barnabas' curse, Joshua protests that Barnabas told him she was dead. And to that Barnabas says, "I told you I killed her - I never said she was dead." Only on a show like DS can that make any sense!  [ghost_wink] [ghost_grin]

Hmm... I guess I'll have to go watch it that episode again, because it sure sounded like a blooper to me. Probably because it was Jonathan Frid, and the strangeness of the line combined with the fact that Frid was known to occasionally mangle lines just said to me "blooper". And yes, MB, only DS could make such a line make sense!

For a real Frid blooper, my favorite is his Yoda-esque "This night must go nothing wrong." (But I'm fully prepared to be told I've misquoted him...)

Actually, that's almost exactly what he says. As a matter of fact, Midnite used it in the July 28, 2020 installment of the MUST slideshow:

If you don't want to know the circumstances surrounding today's entry in this slideshow, then don't read any further...

[spoiler]Today's quote:
Ep #279 (1967) - Barnabas - 'That night MUST go nothing wrong.'

From "#0279/0280: Robservations 12/11/01: Barnabas' Swinging Party"
Old House drawing room - The house must be immaculate for the party, Barnabas instructs Willie (and is this the "tonight must nothing go wrong" blooper?) He's glad to hear Willie delivered the costumes to Collinwood, and remarks that tonight will be the most important night of his life.
[/spoiler]

Unfortunately, Robservations gets the blooper wrong...

My favorite line of dialog comes from Eliot Stokes, just before he, Julia and Barnabas are about to depart 1840 and return to the present. "Are Elizabeth and the children still dead?"
Only on Dark Shadows would such a question be asked. And it might not always yield the same answer

Discovered I made a mistake in my earlier quote:

Barnabas (to Julia):  You’d better give him another sedative.

Quentin:  The only sedative I need is to get my hands around Stokes’ neck.

——
Somehow the second “sedative” was “set” instead.
Barnabas: Your hair smells like mint today.
Julia: Yeah, I gargled today.
Barnabas: Huh???!!!!
