Terror at Collinwood Episode 33: Grayson Hall Celebration with R.J. Jamison and Steve Shutt

In June of 1967 Grayson Hall joined the Dark Shadows cast as Dr. Julia Hoffman, a character who went on to play a pivotal role throughout the remainder of the series. In total, Grayson played six memorable characters on the show, including Magda Rakosi and Countess Natalie DuPres. This episode of Terror at Collinwood celebrates the 55th anniversary of Julia’s first appearance and features guests R.J. Jamison, who wrote the popular biography ‘Grayson Hall: A Hard Act to Follow’, and writer & longtime fan Steve Shutt (aka Gothick). This fun and spirited discussion explores several favorite Grayson Hall scenes featuring each of her DS characters.

MB, this most recent episode where Danielle interviews Jeff Kenny will interest you in one detail. Around the 42 minute mark of the interview, Jeff reveals that he was the one who found the original film footage of that 1966 DS promo that was included in the Blu Ray release of that Dan Curtis documentary a few years back. I remember that that material was very exciting for you because you had a memory of having seen the promo way back when.

As Danielle comments, the fact that this turned up in a random eBay auction gives one hope that other long lost material could someday surface. You know hope springs eternal here for Grayson's Playtex commercial--as well as her GIRL TALK interview!

Dare to dream! In addition to Jeff's incredible DS find, the fact that I was able to track down locally-produced footage of Simon's Sanctorum, the horror host from early 70's Boston TV, gives me hope that more DS rarities might be found as well. I won't rest (in peace) until I see episode 1219 and Barnabas hula hooping on the Bozo show! [clown]

BTW, here's the newest ep of the podcast. The DS Forums & admins get a shoutout early on in the episode. ;)

Terror at Collinwood Episode 35: Son of Listener Email!

This episode of the podcast features the return of listener email! Topics include: Dark Shadows memories, time travel conundrums, thoughts on Roxanne Drew, quitting the podcast over criticism of the Burton film, listening to the show while exercising, stigma of not being a first generation fan, DS and Doctor Who, what if Mitchell Ryan had played Jeremiah, and much, much more!

Also interesting to learn from Jeff Kenny's interview that HBO has been using Seaview Terrace as their production base for another season of The Gilded Age. Because of this, the house has been taken off the market for the time being.

I will be eternally grateful to him for that! Thanks for the info, particularly because I've fallen behind on the podcasts. Not only do I have yet to watch the one with Jeff Kenny, but I haven't gotten to yours with Julia99 either, despite being quite interested to learn what you two have to say. But all in good time...

We should only be so lucky...

Speaking of finding things, I recently came across something that I'd saved from the forum's old VantageNet days. I hope to recreate/share it. But more on that once everything is worked out...

In addition to what Gothick mentioned, there are several other vintage DS clips that I'd like to see resurface. The bit of Frid showing up as Barnabas to interact with hostess Gloria DeHaven on Prize Movie on WABC would be one. Frid's guest appearance on The Mike Douglas Show, with cohost Barbara Parkins, would be another. The ultimate would be the 1969 promotion for ABC's Saturday morning lineup, with the cast of The Ghost and Mrs. Muir and a special appearance by Captain Gregg's good friend Barnabas Collins. Yeah, Frid and Charles Nelson Reilly sharing the screen. The mind reels.
I'd also like to see Nancy Barrett and Lisa Richard's as Rachel Wilson and Susan Barry on OLTL from around 1974. Clarice Blackburn was on the show as Hattie Fredericks, Dorian's housekeeper. Yeah, another housekeeper. But at least she didn't have to wear a wig as Hattie

Terror at Collinwood Episode 37: 1970 Parallel Time with Cara Tillitz, Christen Pierce, & Jule Saynes

The 1970 Parallel Time storyline introduced Dark Shadows viewers to a strange and fascinating parallel universe inhabited by alternate versions of familiar characters who, in this mirror timeband, made different choices in their lives. Visiting to discuss this unique story arc are fellow DS podcasters Cara Tillitz and Christen Pierce of the Between the Shadows podcast and Jule Saynes of the Resident of Collinwood YouTube podcast channel. In addition to discussing the plotlines and characters of 1970 Parallel Time, and their inspirations, Cara, Christen, and Jule also talk about their introductions to Dark Shadows and why they launched their own DS-focused podcasts.
