Sad to hear that Ken Bald passed away on March 17th at the age of 98. In addition to his work on the DS newspaper comic, he worked extensively for both Fawcett and Marvel as far back as the 1940's. He was also the artist on the long running Dr. Kildare newspaper comic which he worked on while doing the DS strip. Though he never attended a DS festival, Mr. Bald was attending comic book conventions until a few years ago. Everyone who met him said that he was a nice, friendly guy.

Thank you for letting us know, Uncle Roger.  I read in an obit that one of Bald's first covers (Fawcett Comics) was Captain Midnite, er, Midnight. [easter_wink]

Although there were some no-shows that year, Bald was a guest at my first DS event-- the 1997 weekend at the Marriott Marquis, the largest and IMO the best of DS Festivals.
