SHADOWGRAM UPDATE NUMBER 414
FEBRUARY 8, 2019

"MASTER OF DARK SHADOWS" DOCUMENTARY PREMIERE - NEW YORK, APRIL 13, 2019 - PART OF "DARK SHADOWS SATURDAY THE 13th” CELEBRATION ALONG WITH SPECIAL DINNER RECEPTION WITH THE STARS.

As ShadowGram Official Updates previously announced, the long-awaited, feature-length documentary "Master Of Dark Shadows", which chronicles the history of the Gothic romance-horror-suspense series and the path of its creator and genre kingpin Dan Curtis, will officially premiere in New York City on Saturday, April 13.

The special screening will take place at 2:00 pm at the Paley Center For Media, located at 25 West 52nd Street between 5th and 6th Avenue.  Following the film, a moderated discussion will be held on stage with original Dark Shadows actors and production personnel, followed by autograph signings and DS memorabilia sale.

The second part of the "Dark Shadows Saturday The 13th" festivities will take place at the restored historic Empire Hotel a few blocks away where "Dark Shadows" held rehearsals for several months in 1966 during its early days. A dinner reception with the stars will be held and all attendees will receive a Deluxe Dark Shadows Gift Bag containing DS merchandise and collectibles plus an exclusive, never-before-available color 8x10 photograph signed by original DS cast.  The event will end at 8 pm though fans are welcome to stay at the hotel bar for drinks and mingling afterwards.

Please note that the Paley Center will not be selling tickets for "The Master Of Dark Shadows"  premiere.  Admission will be by advance reservation only for the full "Dark Shadows Saturday  The 13th" afternoon and evening activities and will be handled through ShadowGram Online and the Dark Shadows Festival/Official Fan Club. Full online and mail order ticket reservations and ordering information will be announced in the next few days along with DS guests expected to participate in the screening and dinner events.

Because it's "Deluxe" does that mean it will include a DS pen, a DS change purse and a DS mousepad?!  [b003]

The Empire Hotel is on 63rd Street, 11 blocks away from the Paley Center, not "a few". That's about a half mile or so. Not too bad a walk but if you're unfamiliar with Manhattan, public transportation may be a better bet.

For some reason, the date wasn't repeated in what I just posted, but it seems to be April 13.

Best wishes,

And the Blu Ray and DVD editions of the new documentary are now available for pre-order on various online retail sites. I don't see any news about the contents of the disc, however.

Ironically, today I also saw a news item about a major electronics manufacturer ceasing production of Blu Ray players.

It's interesting that on Amazon the Blu-ray is cheaper than the DVD.

I saw a similar item about Samsung...

The new documentary MASTER OF DARK SHADOWS reveals the impact and appeal of Dark Shadows while also exploring the creative mind of producer-director Dan Curtis. Known as the "King of TV Horror," the Emmy-winning filmmaker was also responsible for other iconic genre favorites including The Night Stalker, Trilogy of Terror and Burnt Offerings.

Immediately after the screening, a question-and-answer session and discussion will be held on stage with original Dark Shadows actors and other personnel, followed by autograph signings and complimentary photos with the stars.

This is the only official Dark Shadows event/reunion in the New York area this year. The "Master of Dark Shadows" premiere will sell out so it is recommended that reservations be made as admission is on a first-come, first-served basis.

For anybody on these boards who is attending, Lara Parker writes on her social media page today:

Kathryn, Marie, and I will be at the Paley Center on Saturday at noon to greet and chat with any early arrivals. With such a short time to be with everyone, we thought we would come early. Hope to see you there.

It was reported on social media today that another announcement made at the Paley Center thing was that Lara Parker will have a vampire themed short story in a new horror anthology, one based around a podcast. From the podcast's page: "The first Castle of Horror Anthology-- the first anthology to carry the Castle of Horror brand-- is now available for pre-order! Come on into the Castle of Horror! Featuring stories from amazing writers including Dark Shadow's Lara Parker, Kevin J Anderson, PJ Hoover, and many more!"

The book, entitled CASTLE OF HORROR, volume 1, has a pre-order link on some online retail sites now.

Thanks for the heads up, Gothick.  [easter_smiley]

Though, of course, the really big question on everyone's mind is did the "Deluxe" gift bag include a DS pen, a DS change purse and a DS mousepad?!
