Worth Watching: ..., 'Why Women Kill,' ...

Why Women Kill (streaming on CBS All Access): It takes two, or possibly, three to tango in this campy dramedy, depending on whose story you're following. Married Dancing with the Stars veterans Maksim Chmerkovskiy and Peta Murgatroyd show off their technique in a framing device, as 1980s socialite Simone (Lucy Liu) stokes her teenage boyfriend Tommy's (Leo Howard) jealousy while dancing with estranged husband Karl (Jack Davenport) at a benefit. Emotions are even more muddled in the present-day — and best — storyline, when fun-seeking Jade (Alexandra Daddario) takes her smitten couple Taylor (Kirby Howell-Baptiste) and Eli (Reid Scott) clubbing on the dance floor, where a chance encounter with other friends-of-Jade makes them all examine their commitment to this threesome. Back in the 1960s, Beth Ann (Ginnifer Goodwin) reveals an unexpected musical side as she plots to thwart the extramarital relationship of boorish husband Rob (Sam Jaeger) and waitress April (Sadie Calvano), whom she's secretly befriending. Tangled webs, one and all.

Worth Watching: ..., 'Why Women Kill,' ...

Why Women Kill (streaming on CBS All Access): The complications just keep getting messier in this campfest from the creator of Desperate Housewives. Who’d have guessed that ’80s-era haughty socialite Simone (Lucy Liu) would have a daughter (Li Jun Li) who’s an even bigger drama queen? (OK, that’s really not such a surprise.) When the next-gen diva declares that her wedding is off, and starts making eyes at mom’s own secret teenage boyfriend (Leo Howard), the prospect looms of yet another triangle in this household. Back in the 1960s, Beth Ann (Gennifer Goodwin) makes the mistake of loosening up a bit too much with her husband’s mistress, April (Sadie Calvano), resulting in a reckoning at a dinner party with unexpected consequences. And in the present day, the harmonious threesome is disrupted by the intrusion of Jade’s (Alexandra Daddario) two-time-felon ex.

Worth Watching:

Why Women Kill (streaming on CBS All Access): The multi-tiered, candy-colored guilty pleasure continues, giving a nod to creator Marc Cherry's Desperate Housewives with a cameo by Christine Estabrook (former nosy neighbor Martha Huber) as a less-nosy neighbor in whose bed Simone (Lucy Liu) and boy toy Tommy (Leo Howard) are nearly discovered. This most farcical of the three intertwined stories is so campy it can try your patience, but stick with it for the moment when Simone's gay husband, Karl (Jack Davenport), likens their lovemaking to a particular domestic duty. The other storylines get more complicated when 1960s housewife Beth Ann (Ginnifer Goodwin) gets maybe too chummy with her husband's songbird mistress (Sadie Calvano) and in the present, Eli (Reid Scott) is left alone with Jade (Alexandra Daddario), who helps cure his writer's block while out-of-town wife Taylor (Kirby Howell-Baptiste) gets an earful from her sisters. And we're only halfway through this melodrama.

Worth Watching:

The stories begin to take a more serious turn on the CBS All Access dramedy Why Women Kill in an episode written by Emmy-winning Frasier/Desperate Housewives veteran Joe Keenan. In the '60s, Beth Ann (Ginnifer Goodwin) realizes a neighbor might be the victim of domestic abuse, while '80s socialite Simone (Lucy Liu) and gay husband Karl (Jack Davenport) stop joking about their differences. In present-day Pasadena, Taylor (Kirby Howell-Baptiste) is not happy that live-in lover Jade (Alexandra Daddario) is now considered husband Eli's (Reid Scott) "muse." Wait till she finds out Jade is feeding pills to her addict husband…

Worth Watching:

Why Women Kill (streaming on CBS All Access): Marc Cherry's campy triptych of domestic intrigue across three distinct decades has taken a decidedly darker turn as the season nears its end in two weeks. One character (Ginnifer Goodwin in the 1960s) is faking an illness, another character (Jack Davenport in the 1980s) is hiding a diagnosis that could be a death sentence, and a third (Reid Scott in present-day) has succumbed to addiction, which has split apart his relationship with his concerned wife (Kirby Howell-Baptiste) and greedily enabling bedmate (Alexandra Daddario). By the end of this episode, directed by series star Lucy Liu, everyone's situation becomes even more twisted, which is just what you'd expect from a juicy soap.

Worth Watching: A Killer 'Women' Finale, ...

Why Women Kill (streaming on CBS All Access): It's a literal dance of death in the season finale of Marc Cherry's dark comedy of domestic turmoil across the decades. (Kill was just renewed for a second season, featuring all new characters — and presumably a different setting.) In a stylish twist, all three storylines converge in the same Pasadena house as climactic events overlap in 1962, 1974 and 2019, criss-crossing each other in a stimulating and melodramatic blur. In 1962, Beth Ann (Ginnifer Goodwin) comes to grips with the depths of husband Rob's (Sam Jaeger) betrayal with a revenge plot befitting Hitchcock. Present-day couple Taylor (Kirby Howell-Baptiste) and Eli (Reid Scott) try to distance themselves from full-blown psycho Jade (Alexandra Daddario). And in what has surprisingly evolved from the campiest to the most moving tale, 1970s socialite Simone (Lucy Liu) takes the high road in dealing with her ailing husband (Jack Davenport), her young lover (Leo Howard) and even the vengeful mom-ster (Katie Finneran) who tried to ruin her life and reputation. There's a high body count, but not all could be classified as murder.
