The one man who could have dealt with Gerard's ghost
« on: September 25, 2005, 04:56:52 PM »
Professor Stokes arrived back from Europe in September of 1970 too late for what had happened.  He told Barnabs he had hoped to bring back the one man who could have helped deal with Gerards ghost.

Who do you think this man was?

 Dr. Abraham Van Helsing?  ;)

Seriously though, that's an interesting question.  I assume it must have been some sage expert in the occult like himself.  Perhaps Stokes' aged teacher or someone like that.

I read an interesting story in the Inside the Old House zine several years ago in which that man turned out to have been ... Count Petofi!  Stokes' meeting with him nearly proves disastrous.

Whoa! That could have proved amazingly interesting if it had actually played out that way on the show.

That's really a very clever and fascinating premise.  I'll have to try and track that issue down.  Maybe Dale Clark is still selling back issues.  I miss the old fanzines.  They don't seem to publish them much anymore.

THAT would have been the ultimate test of whatever new special effects they could have come up with (and worked into the budget.)

I smell a DS/Kung Fu crossover story here!  LOL!  "Snatch the pebble from my hand Grasshopper!"   [hall2_wink]

I always believed the writers deliberately left the door open for Petofi's possible return....how ironic it would have been if Petofi HAD been the one
Professor Stokes went to see about exorcising Gerard's ghost, and considering he still had scores to settle with Barnabas and Quentin....I could see Petofi (putting on an act of an angel of mercy to the professor), instead of exorcising Gerard's ghost, actually aiding him in destroying Collinwood and the Collins family. That would have been Petofi's ultimate revenge against the Collins men for outsmarting him back in 1897.
Now THAT would have made a great twist.

OMG! Now that would have been an awesome return for Petofi. Too bad the writers never thought of it.

We all know how Petofi operates ---- he will do a favor for you, but will stipulate a hefty price. What price would he charge Stokes, and would he pay it?

This was a great plot idea.    As for a Petofi return, until 2002, and I saw DS again for the firtst time since childhood, I was convinced I'd seen him return in the present day.

Like the Petofi idea. For a different spin, how about Rupert Giles or John Constantine?
