Not surprisingly, given it was opposite football on NBC and the broadcast TV premiere of Frozen on ABC, Elementary came in #3 in its timeslot according to the Fast Overnights. In fact, everything on CBS slipped...

It seems that you are always posting good ratings for the show, but a few days ago I came across an article from early November that says the ratings have been bad and they are canceling it after this season.

Whoever wrote that is definitely jumping the gun because no such decision has been made by CBS. However, while the show is almost consistently #2 in it's timeslot by a wide margin, it is true that the ratings have been down this season, but that's due to delays and being up against football. Once football season ends, the ratings could easily improve just as all CBS shows normally do. Plus, there also the fact that the show does extremely well in other countries, so it's not just making money for CBS in this country.

A bigger factor than ratings is that this is the show's 5th season, which means that contracts will need to be renegotiated for the show to move forward to a 6th season.

Time will tell...

Interestingly, considering that The Sound of Music had better ratings this year than last, Elementary outdrew it by 200,000 viewers in the Fast Overnights. Plus, Elementary's ratings were also better than last week's...

I decided to check the article I mentioned last week, and it turns out it was speculation - they seemed to think it would be canceled, but there was no definite info.

I wonder(ed) why there was a lot of mentioning of "Sound of Music"; it's not like it doesn't always come on right before Christmas....

MB....I'm a little confused; did "Elementary" have 200,000 more viewers than "The Sound of Music"?
