(Though KLS did write in her hoDS diary that RD would be coming back to the show to play her boyfriend. Thanks heavens that plan fell though!!)

I don't doubt the story. Nor do I doubt that DC would want his buddy back on the show. But by 1970, Roger had begun to get regular work in nighttime TV. Would he have walked away from that for a significantly lower paycheck and a more gruelling schedule?

(  Though it was supposedly very hard to say no to DC, so who knows?    Maybe after KLS wrote that, plans simply changed to bring RD back. But whatever the reason was, we should be eternally grateful for it!!  )

In the long run, it seems to have worked out for everyone, including Roger.

(  Very true!! Plus, having a nighttime TV career gave the world so many instances where RD's characters got punched in the face, so just think of how cathartic that could have been for any of his DS costars who might have been watching, not to mention DS fans, too!!  )

When Roger was appearing on nighttime TV, a quick glance at TV Guide would have been enough to let the audience know of a potential appearance, this making it easier to avoid.

(  Exactly!!  Those were the good old days when TV Guide actually gave you useful info for nearly every show on in the week. Don't even get me started on what I think about today's version of the magazine!!  )
