One illustrious survivor that's about to bite the dust is the recording studio.  the Collinsport Historical Society posted a link to a story a couple of weeks ago about the building being demolished.  I think they're going to build a parking garage there--either that or a block of condos.  Can't recall.

Sad to see it go!

Joeytrom, I think that Joseph Caldwell and Malcolm Mamorstein are still alive.  Not sure if any of the directors still are.

As for the studio, I wonder if the Festival will be doing a bus trip there this summer.

The project will be two 6-story residential buildings.

When did Violet Welles pass away?

In 2003 in California.  She and her husband moved to San Francisco in 1974.  He passed away in 2004.

No timeline is given for the demolition of the studio, but it sounds as if it will be gone well before the date of the DS event.

I imagine that some fans will want to go to the studio site anyway. There are still a large number of them who go looking for the foundation of.The Old House in Tarrytown which was destroyed decades ago.

I'd get a kick out of visiting the Old House site, even if there were nothing there, unless it were completely overgrown and impossible to access and I were unable to get a sense of where it once stood.

Visiting "Collinwood" was a thrill of a lifetime.

It might be fun to visit the studio site and think about my childhood idols once being there, etc.

Actually being inside the site of the studio in '89 when it was The Vista nightclub was a hoot and a half. And having DS crew member Nick Besnick there at the party to give a tour and tell us how everything used to be was even better.

I've mentioned this before, but the party was the first Fest organized DS event that I ever attended - and to this day it still remains my favorite. It was small (only 300 fans) and intimate, and the DS stars in attendance mixed freely with the fans. It was actually possible to have a meaningful conversation with pretty much any one of them.

One of my favorite memories of that night came at the end of the evening when the actors were supposed to say a few words. Roger Davis, unsurprisingly, ran off at the mouth. Eventually, Marie Wallace grabbed the microphone away from him and said "You know, we're just supposed to be saying goodnight."
