I love the way this episode provides an example of a good deed being rewarded.  It's always so nice after watching the "bad" Barnabas of 1966-7 to come back to 1795 and see how good he was.  And, in this case he was teaching Ben to read and write and that paid off here.  I've always loved this scene between them.
