St. Barnabas Day
«
on:
June 09, 2003, 08:59:19 PM »
I see by our calendar Wed (11th) is St. Barnabas's Day.
I know who Barnabas (of the book of Acts, Paul's traveling companion/fellow apostle) was.
But does anyone know what exactly is St. Barn's Day?
Thanks,
Patti

To the best of my knowledge, Patti, it's simply the day assigned to him for celebration on the Anglican Church calendar. I found the day listed in an old English book on gardening and I thought it would be appropriate to list it on the calendar. I have no idea what he might have been the patron saint

I just looked him up in the Index of Patron Saints. He is the patron saint against hailstorms and also a peacemaker. For his full description you can check out

Hailstorms? They could have used him in the Boston area a couple weeks ago when they had a hailstorm that broke the windshields on some people's cars. But I suppose his attentions were elsewhere.

and also a peacemaker.
Though if it was on the talks between the Israelis and the Palestinians, I guess we can forgive him.

One thing you've got to admit about Barnabas Collins--he was no saint!
