Thanks for the update Annie, I had forgotten.  I have to work so I won't be making Corn Beef and my daughter is pouting.  St Patricks day is a great day to cry in our beer, now we have a good reason no DS.

Birdie--who will be wearing green tomorrow
Oh yes, most definitely will be "wearin' of the green" tomorrow. The name Kelly or Kelley is in my ancestry(or is it "incestry?").  One of these days I'll do a genealogical search into my father's name.  Supposedly, I'm related to an 1860's outlaw but haven't been able to find the southwest connection to the northeast.

I thought I would share some of my favorite Irish toast, wishes, blessings. I am sure many of you have already heard them but bare with me.

Dance as if no one were watching
Sing as if no one were listening
And live each day as if it were your last

May those who love us love us,
and those that don't love us
May God turn their hearts
And if he doesn't turn their hearts
May he turn their ankles
So we'll know them by their limping.

The Irish have a great way with words!

Thanks Annie for the reminder. I had totally forgotten all about the pre-empts.  I hate when they do this!! :(

This was great Birdie!   I got a kick out of the last two verses!  Very original! [thumb]

Happy Saint Patricks Day to you Birdie and to all of our Irish cousins here on the board!!

Thanks Anne for telling me.  I looked at today and tomorrow, and I didn't know what was going on.

Yes, I am making corned beef and cabbage today, and Yes...I am proud to be Irish.

The name Kelly or Kelley is in my ancestry(or is it "incestry?").
There are a few Irish names in my pedigree too (along with Scottish, German, Welsh and who knows what else - I'm rather fond of mutts ya know!).  One name, that at least sounds like it has a DS connection, is the name Bennett.  When I was in Kilarney in 2000 someone in a shop (with a lot of ancestry tourist stuff) looked it up in a book for me and said the name came to Ireland by way of France.  So, in lieu of green beer I believe I will have a nice glass of merlot [8285] .

Cheers to all and Happy St. Paddy's Day! I know I'm more than ready for a little green this year!

(Anyone else think this may be one of Quentin's favorite holidays too!  tee hee  [gring])

I'm pretty sure Collins is an Irish name.  My husband's maternal grandmother was born a Collins in Georgia and her people were from Northern Ireland.

rainey....who has to admit she doesn't own a single green article of clothing.....not even a pair of socks!

Me neither.  Wait....does a dark green T-shirt count?
Well, I'm not Irish, but you can kiss me anyway!   :-*

Whose father was Scottish through and through.
(And in-bred if ya ask me)

 ::)

Hey - my husband's part Irish.  Does that make me Irish through intimate association?

I'm Sicilian through and through....but oddly enough, my maternal grandmother's name was Scotti....which is simply Italian plural for Scot....and not a very unusual name in Italy either.  How lost must THOSE guys have been??  :o

I'm not a beer drinker and I'm about 85 % Irish. My great-great something has a farm in Ireland by the name of Mulryan's. That's my Mom's maiden name. My dad was German-Irish.
I'll join you in that Merlot!
