Well, at least Sam Evans has stopped morphing.  [ghost_grin]

Poor Vicki never does get dinner--and it's only her third (I think) night at Collinwood. She actually almost loses her temper with Carolyn.

Nice job by David Henesy with the closing line: You'll be sorry you ever came here.  [ghost_blink]

Already the gossip has started about Vicke and Burke and Carolyn is jealous.  She barely knows Burke and she seems to care more for him than Joe.
David warns Vickie that she is in the same doghouse his father in in, but Vickie seems to not listen to what he says.

Sam waxes poetic as Mark Allen did but from Ford it comes out sounding deranged.

I thought Vicki had her dinner off screen in the kitchen.

Why was Mark Allen replaced?  I kept expecting Burke to ask Sam, “Who are you, anyway?”  I don't know if it was something about the performance of either Mitchell Ryan or David Ford that had me thinking that way.  Despite that, it still felt good to see David Ford.

I loved the shot used for the closing credits – looking in through the drawing room window, through the pretty much open drawing room doors, to the front doors.  I wish the front doors could have been opened so we could see the portico that is shown in the outdoor shots of the house, but that would have been difficult since the portico isn't there in the set.

Since I like the start of DS for its film-like qualities, I always assumed (much as I try not to do that) that those early actors quit because parts in films, or prime time series, or plays opened up.   I'd guess that the gap between Sam Evanses (and Matthew Morganses) indicates that the loss of the actor was a surprise to DC, who might have looked for and found a new actor while MA was still there, if he could have.   But then, DC was impulsive, I guess.

George Mitchell probably did leave for roles in films.  I found the following from the Internet Movie Database:

Nevada Smith (1966) .... Paymaster
The Flim-Flam Man (1967) .... Tetter

As for Mark Allen during this period:

1966 A Big Hand for the Little Lady- Blacksmith (uncredited)
1966 A Man Called Shenandoah (TV series)..– Plunder (1966) … Man with Rifle
