And if anyone knows, what was "the big one" where apparently he screwed up so bad they had to go redo it, or splice tape and cut tape to make it not look so bad.
I haven't seen the interview, but I assume Frid was talking about episode 383.  If I remember the story correctly, Frid forgot his lines during the scene in which Barnabas challenges someone (I see no need to mention who) to a duel, and a silence drew out to an embarrassing length.  It was a good scene, deserving better, so he got management to allow him to edit the tape (which, of course, was simply never done) and the results are worth the trouble he took.

Yes, that is the one.  The story Frid told at fests and in print later was that he was upset with how he did in the scene.  Since he was usually doing interviews or going on publicity stunts right after the show finished taping, he was scheduled that afternoon to meet some people the producers were bringing in.  He got the idea to say to the producers that he would do that IF the producers would edit out the mistake he made in the scene.  They agreed to the expense.  Frid said that he got to sit up in the editing room and watch them edit the scene which he found fascinating.

I assume Frid was talking about episode 383.

Which brings up another point - why was the person with the most lines and most screen time (and slowest line-learning ability) booked after taping to do publicity things and meet people? He needed to be left alone to study the script.

They wanted him to do publicity things and meet people so much that they were actually willing to pay for a teensy-weensy bit of editing!  I think that answers your question, Nancy.

That was...interesting...

Having mixed emotions about the whole thing.  Personally, I applaud Frid's curmudgeonly behavior and hope to be equally so when I'm his age.  However, as a Legionnaire, I was less than thrilled with his comments about The Divine One, and feel that he is the last person who should comment on another actor's use of the TelePrompter.

I agree with Gothique's critique of El Pierson's interviewing technique, and LOVED the moment when Frid accused him of belaboring certain topics.

I thought the best part was chapter four, particularly Frid's reaction to the question of how he'd like to be remembered.  I felt that we were given a glimpse of the man himself, which was a real treat, and a refreshing change from the usual DS-related questions.

I like the first and four part also. I feel like you really got to know something new. JF sure had
to do many extra things.  With all the tours and being on the show all the time. JF was sure a
hard worker.   [cheer] [clap] [cheerleader]
