A Wrong Turn in Albuquerque

A kind of weird thing happened at work today which I, of course, immediately related to DS. I was looking at a calendar tacked to a partition and looked up only to find myself face to face with what might be one of the most famous of all the actors on the show! No, not Jonathan Frid or David Selby (blast!). It was SQEAKY BAT!
Or, at least one of his close relatives.
To see him in living color please go to:

The poor guy must have gotten really confused (especially if he flew into the goofy place I work!)
. I really think he was looking for my Dark Shadows calendar wall which also features copies of photos from JF's show and last year's NYC fest.

It is funny lately I have heard several bat stories. My brother and sister in law had several bats in the siding of their house. It really freaked her out. Than my husbands cousin e-mailed me to tell me about a bat that somehow got in her bedroom. She lives in MAINE! Her hubby tired for over a hour to drive it out a window.
Birdie--your bat was not very pretty. I think I might have freaked a little bit.

I felt sorry for him...he just wanted to get a good days rest and he ended up being pushed (albeit gently) into an old vase and tossed out the door.
Well, at least he's still alive so that's good.

I once heard on the local news, that a bat was spotted here in Las Vegas, glad it wasn't at my house.

_Last year at the zoo a bat landed on the outside of our booth. Being an adventurous sort, (and not wanting it out there with kids that could run up to it) I decided to try to catch it in a box. It managed to just escape me, but the poor dear was obviously not well. That night on the news I heard how an unusually high number of them in the area had rabies and to leave them alone! Next time I see one in the daytime acting sluggish, I will do just that!

I live in Maine and have had several bats in my house. My husband and I even had to send a dead one into be tested for rabies because of our cats. It tested negative. I saw one up close while it slept between our window and screen. It had a little dog face kinda of cute actually. My husband gently opened the screen then closed the window so it would fly out when it woke up.

We have tons of bats where we live! We have had several cases of West Nile Virus in the birds here, so the county released a whole bunch of bats and now they're everywhere! I went to the eye doctor about a week ago to get my glasses adjusted, and suddenly the receptionist bursts into the waiting room screaming. A bat was in the building, hanging from a light! The doctor had to call the Humane Society to get it out, so needless to say, I had to wait awhile for my appointment. There were only 4 of us in the building(me, my mom, the receptionist, and the doctor). I thought it was kinda funny, but maybe that is because I'm not afraid of bats. My grandparents live on a farm, and we always went out at night and threw tennis balls up in the air and bats would swoop down at us. That was so much fun!

I used to live in Austin--the Bat Capitol of Texas!
My apartment was near the Congress Avenue bridge, located downtown; people gathered every day at sundown to watch the bats leave their day perch under the bridge and fly off into the night!
Actually, bats are really pretty harmless and were credited in Austin with keeping the mosquito population way down--along with any number of other annoying and destructive insects...
