The classic July 4th musical 1776 will make it's annual July 4th airing on TCM tomorrow, Sunday.
Virginia Vestoff (Samantha, 1840) recreated her stage role in the film, as did David Ford (Sam Evans) Daniel Keyes (Eagle Hill Caretaker) and Emory Bass (Mr. Best, 1970)

Too bad Quentin's Theme isn't part of the score!
Happy 4th!

Unfortunately, it's the Nixon Cut; no "Cool, Considerate Men." :(

That was the cut version???? This was only my second time seeing it. It's a pretty long film as released. Still I wish they'd shown the uncut version. My wife kept saying it never seemed to end though. She wasn't as into it as I was, and the fact that I kept pointing out DSers in the cast did little to impress her.  Of course she thought I was crazy to create my Ultimate Godfather collection. I took all the deleted scenes from the Godfather Saga (TV miniseries version) and edited them back into the movie. the two films run about 7 hours now.  Then, if you still want more you can screen The Godfather III.

I'll make you an offer you can't refuse. Copies of your Godfather edit for joint DS/Godfather fans!

The DVD DOES have that number, it's the complete director's cut.  And didn't Virginia Vestoff look absolutely lovely?  It's a shame she didn't get more film work during her lifetime than what she actually did.  By all means see her in Robert Altman's A Wedding: she plays Clarice Sloan, the groom's spinster aunt who's having an affair with- you'll have to see it for yourself!   [ghost_wink]

Ms Vestoff played a heroin addict in A Wedding. Her acting was intense & flawless! I'm sorry that two movies, a Kojak episode & DS are all we can now see of her. I recall that she was quite celebrated on Broadway in the early 70s.

David, I have to correct you: that was Nina van Pallandt as the heroin addict in the film, she was Virginia's sister Regina Corelli in the story (and mother of the groom played by Desi Arnaz, Jr.), and Dina Merrill played Toni Goddard, the eldest of the sisters.

Cool Considerate Men was in the version showed yesterday on TCM. I recorded it to my DVR and rechecked just now, after seeing the link to the song on YouTube. It looked familiar, so I decided to scan and see if I was remembering correctly. I was. I take it that means this was the complete version or were there other cuts?

Hmm.  My TV Guide showed the run-time for TCM's broadcast as 2 hours and 20 mins, and since the restored DVD is 2 hours and 40 mins long, I assumed that TCM was airing the cut film.  My mistake; I apologize for any confusion.

Yeah, this ran in a 3 hour timeslot.  I don't know what they did to fill the last of the hour. I made a comment about how I felt llike the show would never end....I did not mean to imply that I felt it was over long. We were planning to go to a party and I told my wfie I was not leaving until it was over. She kept coming in and asking if it was over yet. I had DVR'd it and was not sure exactly how long it had left, but I kept telling her the party would run until well after dark and I was in no rush to head over and sit in the hot Texas sun. Any way that's why I made the comment. I thoroughly enjoyed it and plan to save it on DVD.

VV is a talented actress! I wish I would have been able to watch it.  Thank the Lord for netflix!
