Number 213. April 6, 2010.

Hello, Dark Shadows Fan,

ShadowGram (SG), The Official Newsletter & News Source for Dark Shadows (DS), announces the following breaking news in this Online News Update "bulletin."

***** SG PREMIERE ANNOUNCEMENT:

----- UPDATING: DS FESTIVAL'S "SHADOWS IN THE SUN"
CAST REUNION & FAN CONVENTION

SG here announces our updated guest list, programming details, special events, and membership / Banquet prices.

The new SG newsletter print issue – a HUGE Double SG #117-#118 – will be sent to all current postal-mail subscribers very soon. I will announce its publication and highlight its contents in a SG Online News Update posted to the SG YahooGroup.

******* PLEASE NOTE:
This is a SG advance announcement intended for the fans' interest and information only. SG does not handle any Fest payments or the Fest's annual general mass postal-mailing. Those are done entirely through the Fest from its New Jersey P.O. Box address.

PLEASE DO NOT SEND ANY FEST PAYMENTS TO THE FEST POSTAL-MAIL ADDRESS BEFORE APRIL 20

The mass mailing should be en route by that date. It will have the actual Payment Form you must include when you pay for your Fest membership. After the mailing is sent out, you also can print the membership form off the Fest website.

Following is the latest confirmed Fest news, which is fully detailed in the upcoming SG #117-#118 print issue, along with more premiere announcements, exclusive photos, extensive news developments, and much more. (To receive the published print issues, see SG subscription information later in this Update.)

DS FRIDAY MOVIE MATINEE WITH JONATHAN FRID

At 12:30pm on 7-16, Jonathan will be honored with a handprints-in-cement ceremony at the historic Vista Theatre in LA/Hollywood (a short distance from the hotel). Following the ceremony, the 1970 MGM motion picture HOUSE OF DARK SHADOWS, starring Jonathan, will be shown on the big screen inside the theatre from a pristine 35 mm print.

Vista Theatre, 4473 Sunset Dr., Los Angeles, CA 90027. (323) 660-6639.

The beautifully-restored Egyptian-style Vista is more than 75 years old and located not far from the hotel, at the intersection of Hollywood and Sunset Boulevards, 3 blocks east of Vermont Ave., in Los Feliz (Los Angeles).

The $10 admission for the ceremony/screening includes popcorn and a soft drink. Tickets are limited. For an additional $15, round-trip bus transportation will be provided to and from the Marriott Hotel to the Vista. The movie will finish at approximately 3pm, allowing attendees time to return to the Marriott before the Fest opens at 6pm.

Fans who want bus transportation must send their reservation/payment by postal-mail to the Fest address below before July 10.

Fans who do not need transportation can purchase tickets for $10 each directly from the Vista box office during afternoon/evening operating hours (after 4pm weekdays or after 2pm weekends)

--- Sun., 7-18: DS In The Sun Special Event:
BANQUET WITH JONATHAN FRID & OTHER DS GUESTS

On 7-18 at 7pm, join the guests for a 3-course dinner in the hotel Ballroom, followed by door prizes and after-dinner entertainment. Each banquet attendee will receive a commemorative Barnabas Collins photo (from the original negative) with a personalized autograph by Jonathan. The banquet price (includes signed picture) is only $50 per person and is non-refundable. Advance reservations are required and must be received by July 10. Send payment to the Fest address below.

Please Note: Jonathan appears at the Fest only on Sat., 7-17 and Sun., 7-18. His autograph will be available only to those attending the banquet. If you are paying for the banquet, your first name will be personalized on the photograph - no exceptions. NO REFUNDS for the banquet for any reason, but if you must cancel, you will be sent your Barnabas photo autographed by Jonathan.

All weekend, you can attend the guest Q&As and presentations, video screenings, charity auction, Costume & Presentation Gala (as a participant or in the audience), and visit the Marketplace sales rooms.

SG #119 and my SG Online News Updates posts to the SG YahooGroup will announce and report more Fest details as we finalize them.

The Official web site says the Frid event at the Vista on Friday is $20.00, while the online Shadowgram list it as costing $10.00. Does anyone know which  fee is correct?

I see what you mean-- it's $20 on the order form, though it's $10 on this page.  I think they're including the bus ride ("Fans who do not need transportation can purchase tickets ... directly from the Vista Theatre box-office"), which on the flier page is listed as costing $10, though the update above lists the cost of transportation at $15.  It's confusing!

It's a good thing I read this update message.  I was so excited to see the order form on the website this morning that I went ahead, filled it out, and wrote a check.  I missed the afternoon mail though, and now it looks like I'll have to wait until April 20 to send my payment anyway.  I wonder why the online form is available now if we're not supposed to use it yet.

My plane gets into BurbankAirport at 10:48 a.m the I have to go to baggage clain I  will get my suitcase near last as usual making it between 11:20 and 11:45. I signed up for Hertz Club Gold at the AAA rate wittch is 50% off so i should get the car without having to wait in line ver long at all. Is there any quick and cheap parking near the Vista Theatre I will have my own GPS even if the rent a car does not have one it should not be hard to find it i program the adress of the Vista Theatre in in advance.  If i use the shuttle as i am leaning when does the last bus/shuttle leave the Burbank Airport Marriott?

It's a matter of finding street parking-- you could get lucky, but you should be able to find something within a block or two.  But be sure to carefully read any street signs!!

Well, it turns out that my SG was in the 'spam' folder of my e-mail account (how did it get there?).  Better yet, I got my mailing today from the Festival! Now comes the hard part: making travel arrangements.  I've already have a room, but have yet to buy airline tickets.  Believe it or not, I've never flown before!  HELP!!!!!

Charles, I'm so glad to hear that you're coming to CA!  Congratulations on taking that first flight.  [thumb] I've always had good luck with JetBlue (they fly nonstop from JFK to Long Beach) in terms of service and price.  If you were to take this route though, you would have to find ground transportation from Long Beach for Burbank, and I'm not sure what that would entail.  I'll let you know what I can find out.

Two things about Marcy's email. First of all, there is nothing on the Fest website that indicates that payment shouldn't be sent before April 20th, as Marcy states. So unless you happen to be on her email list, you wouldn't know that. No doubt payments are already being sent.

Second, the Fest website lists 13 actor-guests. Marcy lists only 12. The one she left out? ... Roger Davis.

I have been tentatively hoping to make it to the Festival this year, but unless the airfare comes down, I probably won't be able to. Right now, the airfare is over $600, which is more than the hotel would cost for four nights. That's the problem if the airport near you isn't a major metropolitan airport.
