"quite embarrassed"  "unknown to himself, he omitted uncontrolling loud squeaking sounds as a bat, which warned anyone nearby of his presence & hence made spying impossible"

"crushed"  "Beth was into Quentin & NOT him?!"

"too late"  "bats dislike bright lights & ended up flying headfirst into a shut window."

"ashamed of himself"  "they were secretly planning a surprise birthday party for him"
