Greg Trask and Rachel

I was recently watching the episode where Greg Trask finds Rachel living at Collinwood after an apparent falling out they had some years before that. The way they interacted seemed to subtlely imply that possibly Trask abused her as a child (and not just emotionally). Was this intended or am I imagining this?

In particular, he seems somewhat physical with her -- The first thing he says to her is "come to me Rachel" with his hands out -- also he remarks a few times on how beautiful she is (and also how beautiful she was as a child)

This would also partially explain why she hates him so much

I'm pretty sure Rachel herself told Barnabas that Trask beat the children, I wouldn't be surprised if he took it further. The repressed pervert vibe is definitely there. Just the thought makes my skin crawl.

Trask seemed to be "a spared the rod, spoil the child" type.
Even though we did not see him beat anyone on the show.
He did browbeat people, even his wife and daughter.
Locking kids in closets seemed to be the norm.
Making them do without meals as punishment too.
Plus even if Trask didn't molest Racheal- he looked like he
wanted too. She would have picked up on it too and
been frightened of him.
You have to give kudos to Jerry Lacy for an great performance.

Couldn't agree more-- I've seen some people on here badmouth Lacy, but his characters (particularly as Gregory and 1795 Trask) were some of my favorites. Definitely one of the best villains, IMO.

My favorite Trask scene is when he returns to Collinwood and see Charity / Pansy Faye for
the first time. She is singing and dancing and gives him a hip bump. The look on his face is
priceless! 

It seem to me that Rachel was a lonely young woman. The only friend she had was Tim Shaw, until
he betrayed her to Trask. I did'nt like it when she was shot and killed by Judith.

I think it was HEAVILY implied that Gregory Trask was a child molestor, but the only reason they couldn't practically show it was because of the time it was shown in. For some reason this topic dredges up faint memories of some other molestation themed thing---

We see Longworth in 1970PT, and his oogling over Maggie when he captures her. It practically screams rape.

It wouldn't surprise me if Gregory had molested Rachel. In fact, I think he still wanted her as an adult when he is reunited with her at Collinwood and browbeats her into returning to Worthington Hall.

In some ways I think he is responsible for what happens to Rachel in the end.

If he hadn't had Evan Hanley brainwash Tim Shaw into killing Minerva, Rachel wouldn't have had to hide him in that farmhouse, she never would have been bitten by Dirk, and she would never have been shot by Judith.

You're right Brandon, that is such a squirm worthy scene. I had forgetten about it. Somehow more disturbing than the blatantly implied scene with Buffie later on.

I've often wondered about some of those scenes.  Would they have been shot the same way now?  Did they make it on camera because no one thought they were "creepy"? Or were they a deliberate attempt to "push the envelope" in exactly that way?

If DS had made it a few more years, they might have been allowed to be more overt.    The early 70s was when the mainstream started catching up with what was being done in movies in the late 60s.
