House of the Killer Apes?
« on: December 07, 2007, 09:05:59 PM »
I read an interview with Jonathan Frid once where he was talking about appearing in a film called HOUSE OF THE KILLER APES.  This was post-DS.  Maybe in the 70s?  Whatever became of this project?  Does anyone know?

Hey Penny!  Was that interview in a magazine that had a fabulous cover painting with Barnabas Collins baring fangs back to back with Peter Cushing in Van Helsing mode?  That was a great interview from the early 70s and I remember being fascinated when I read it that Frid longed to work with Jeanne Moreau.

I'm quite sure that Frid never did the movie and, if it was made, presumably it was under a different title with a cast that didn't include him.  I believe it was around '74 that Frid went to live in Mexico for a few years.

cheers, Steve

If you two are talking about the Monsters of the Movies article entitled "BARNABAS: Dark Shadows In Bright Afternoon" from back in October '74, I don't believe that one is the one you're looking for. That article is in the Members' Archive, I just looked it over, and it doesn't seem to mention anything about House of the Killer Apes or Jeanne Moreau.  [santa_sad]

That one has JF and Christopher Lee on the cover, but Frid discusses his likely upcoming role in House of the Killer Apes in the MotM from August '75 ("Once Upon a Time There Was a Vampire").  As Gothick mentioned, that cover features JF and Peter Cushing.  Confusing, no?

Thanks, Midnite honey! My memory is so shredded these days it's very comforting to know that I do occasionally get SOMETHING right.

Oops.  [santa_embarassed]  But I suppose that's what happens when none of the images for the Members' Archive have been restored yet - only the text.  [santa_cheesy]

Oh no problem.  And the person who neglected to restore them should be fired!  Banned from the site for life!!  Oh wait...   [santa_undecided]

Honestly that wasn't meant as a dig. After all, that person isn't the only person who has copies of most if not all of the Members' Archive files.  [santa_wink]  I only meant that I'd forgotten what was on the cover of the October '74 issue, and the image of it wasn't there to remind me.  [santa_smiley]
