Lamb chop!  You mean the poor guy didn't even get the free meal the rest of us (well we paid $60 but not for the actual food REALLY) did.  Wow I would have thought all your expenses would be paid if you did a convention as a guest.

LOL, his expenses were covered; it was JF's idea to start signing right away at the banquet as there were 800 people to get to that evening.  He even wanted to continue signing during what turned out to be a tribute to him but obviously, once he realized there was  a tribute to him being presented, he couldn't very well ignore that and continue to sign autographs.

I wonder if someone ,just glancing at the headline of the item, wouldn't think Jonathan wasn't auctioning off the chance to have dinner with him and chat about Dark Shadows!  He could probably just earn a living (and lose his sanity) doing that if he really needed to.

Yes, it did look like that.  It was a joke on my part on JF.

enic script is a really neat item as I think I saw him do the show in Boston (I thought it was 88 but others have told me 87 is accurate) and he scared me quite a bit as a spry 8 year old.  I can only imagine the laughter if Jonathan's response to why he killed a man would have been "he said I had a face that looked like Barnabas Collins".

Oddly enough though Jonathan did look a bit like Karloff for the production I always felt.

A piece of trivia for you - Jonathan saw Karloff do the role in a touring production of AAOL.  When JF was performing the role in Los Angeles, Sara Karloff (the actor's daugther) came to see JF in the production and sent a very nice note backstage afterwards.

I was sitting at a table in the bar just before the banquet. Jonathan was two tables away with Lara Parker and two others. When they left for the banquet I saw a man from the next table run over and grabbed his coffee mug. I can't believe how obsessed people still are with Jonathan after all these years.

I know, Elmont, it is asbsurd to see things like that guy taking Jonathan's mug, never mind the techicalities of it being stealing from the bar, but I think one thing that feeds this is if a star has not been around much, if there is finallly an appearance, the more obsessive will get worse, that is why I am just relieved that the incidents of that weekend were minimal.....also, for me and fellow fans of theirs it is nice to see that Lara and Jonathan had a drink together before the banquet.....

Yes Miranda, I thought it was nice too that two old friends who I'm guessing hadn't seen each other in a while were able to share a drink and catch up a little.

The stories I could tell you, Elmont. I think I was one of those other people at the booth as I remember Lara coming over and sitting down with us.

Some fans remain obsessed even while JF was not active in anything, including DS events, and their antics have gone on for years.

I confess it did occur to me to get the --- disposable--- plastic cup Mr. Frid drank from Friday night.  What the hey, I was helping to clean up the tables!  But by then, I wasn't sure which of the cups was his.
Would have had to take DNA samples from all the gents at the table that night.  And epithelials (sp?)  (Heheh, i guess you can tell I've been watching WAY too much CSI. [police] )
Then I 'd have had to document it somehow, so it's probably just as well.

In JF's case, the longer he was away from the public life, the more fans tried to find and contact him.  He's had a bit of a time since being away from the Fests.  Unfortunately, when fans who really cross the line do certain things, they do not think what they are doing is obsessive or stands to creep out the actor.   Putting ads in papers and magazines trying to find out where an actor lives or compel him to contact a fan might seem harmless but it is creepy.  Other behavior we've discussed here already is likewise creepy but many fans who engage in it do not mean anything "creepy" by it; however, it is impossible for the actor, to whom all these people are total strangers, to know who is harmless and who is not.
