Dear Dead Amanda
« on: March 05, 2007, 05:48:59 PM »
So, yesterday I was watching some 1897 episodes... not actually watching whole shows but just fast forwarding around to various scenes... and I saw one of the early scenes between Tim and Amanda.  And Tim actually informed Amanda that her face was full of "wisdom and innocence."   I just about died.

I couldn't think of anything that could top Trask's line about Abigail's "kindly, loving face" but this did the trick.

Oh my, Gothic, I couldn't agree with you more! Amanda and wisdom shouldn't be used in the same sentence!  ;D ;D 8)

What a fantastic topic. When I saw this I had to smile. Amanda Harris tops my list for the most annoying character.

I always saw physical similarities between Kathryn Leigh Scott and Donna McKechnie - and wonder if, had KLS not been away on an extended vacation, that she would have been cast in the role of Amanda Harris. Would have added more palpable tension, since Tim, Quentin and Trask all featured prominently in Rachel's life - so her coming back as "Amanda" would have had more exciting plot potential - especially if Barnabas got into the mix.

What would everyone think if Q hadn't fallen for her?  She over-enunciates, but half a dozen actors on DS did.   I think they were probably told to.    I liked her somewhat as the worldly smartass scam artist, or accomplice to one.    She pegged Trask right away.

Actually recent viewing have me doing a total 180 on my previous opinions of the girl, but still, wise and innocent are not words I would ever use to describe her. It's quite clear from the moment we meet her that she's very adept at using her wiles to get what she wants.

I'm with you, Magnus, Amanda was more interesting as Tim's partner-in-crime but once they paired her with Quentin she lost the potential she had to be a truly interesting and important character.

I also agree with arashi that the words wise and innocent and Amanda Harris, those words just do not belong in the same sentence. But as far as Trask was concerned she was pretty perceptive there.

The only dear Amanda is a dead Amanda. Even at that, that she is dead is dear, and she still isn't.

I always liked Amanda.  I can never figure out what it is about her that turns people off.  As far as acting, the character that always turned me off was Beth.  She had a habit of speaking her lines in a monotone.  Amanda wasn't award winning material, but she was better than that.  The thing I didn't like was her falling in love with Quentin, I mean, good grief, every woman who came within 50 feet of the guy was kissing him within 60 seconds of meeting him.  I thought she played a pretty interesting part in the story line up until then, but once she fell for Q she was just another lovestruck goof.  I'm just starting on the Leviathan story right now and I really like her character in that as well, she's one of the few bright spots in an otherwise dull plot.

I love some of those scenes in 1897 where Q and B were practically chin to chin in one another's faces and it looked as if one was going to kiss the other at any moment--particularly with Q's habit of cracking those sweet, sarcastic smiles when he's about to make one of his famous Quentin-zingers...

Heh heh heh. I like your avatar, I have 6 cats of my own.

I will agree that I liked how Amanda pegged Trask right away, "He's disgusting!" Other than that I can't think of much positive to say about her.
