Hello, Dark Shadows Fan,

ShadowGram (SG), The Official Newsletter & News Source for Dark Shadows (DS), announces the following breaking news:

*** DS FESTIVAL - HAUNTED HALLOWEEN PARTY UPDATE

The DARK SHADOWS FESTIVAL PRESENTS:
40th Anniversary Haunted Halloween Party
Thursday, October 26, 2006 - 7:30 - 11:30 pm
Vista Theater, 4473 Sunset Dr., Los Angeles, CA  90027 - Phone: 323-660-6639

This special event is less than two weeks away and promises to be one of the most unique DS gatherings ever.

--- SG Premiere Announcement: Kicking off the evening will be a hands-in-cement ceremony with legendary "Scream Queen" actress Barbara Steele ("Black Sunday," "The Pit & The Pendulum"). Barbara starred as Dr. Julia Hoffman and Natalie in the 1991 DS primetime revival TV series.

This will be followed by a half-hour concert of Robert Cobert's original music from DS, including a dramatic recitation of "Quentin's Theme (Shadows of the Night)" by actor David Selby (who portrayed Quentin Collins).

A big-screen presentation of unusual DS material will be shown and Barbara Steele hosts a tribute to DS creator Dan Curtis, who passed away earlier this year. An auction of rare DS and related memorabilia will take place, and the winner of a Barnabas Collins vampire look-alike contest will win a special prize.

Free autographs from the guests will be available. Color / b&w photos and books written by some of the guests will be offered for purchase. Some guests will be dressed in costume as their original characters.

The following actors are confirmed to appear, barring profesional commitments:
David Selby (Quentin), Kathryn Leigh Scott (Maggie), Lara Parker (Angelique), John Karlen (Willie), Jerry Lacy (Trask), Chris Pennock (Jeb), Robert Rodan (Adam), and Betsy Durkin (Victoria #2).

Actress Karen Black (Dan Curtis' "Burnt Offerings") also will appear, along with the original Zuni fetish doll from Dan Curtis' 1975 cult TV film "Trilogy Of Terror."

The historic restored Vista Theatre is at the intersection of Hollywood and Sunset Boulevards, 3 blocks east of Vermont Avenue, in Los Feliz (Los Angeles). The event benefits the UCLA Alzheimer's Research Center in memory of Dan & Norma Curtis.

Each attendee will receive a complimentary gift. Those who purchase tickets in advance at the Vista box office or via postal-mail (see address below) will receive an additional surprise. An assortment of new DS merchandise will be for sale at the Vista, along with popcorn, soft drinks, candy, and other refreshments.

All attendees are welcome to come in costume if they wish!

Tickets are only $20 for adults, $15 for seniors & students, and $10 for children ages 6-12.

Tickets will be sold at the door.

You also can purchase tickets in advance at the Vista box office after 2:00 pm on weekends and after 4:00 pm on weekdays.

Tickets ordered via postal-mail will be sent to you via postal-mail. All mail-orders must be received no later than Mon., Oct. 23. Please send your check/money order, payable to Dark Shadows, to this address:

Dark Shadows, P.O. Box 480726, Los Angeles, CA 90048.

For out-of-town visitors: The Burbank Bob Hope Airport is only about 7 miles north of the Vista and Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) is about 12 miles southwest of the Vista. For sleeping accommodations, approximately ½-mile from the theatre are the Hollywood Travel Lodge, 1401 N. Vermont Ave. 323-665-5735 and the Hollywood Ramada Inn, 1160 N.Vermont Ave. 323-660-1788.

A printable flyer is at www.collinwood.net/hollywood-halloween

A complimentary illustrated SG Bonus Announcement Postcard about this event was mailed last month to all current postal-mail SG subscribers. To receive this special postcard or for more information, please e-mail  ShadowGram@aol.com  or send a SASE (Self-Addressed, Stamped Envelope) to ShadowGram, P.O. Box 1766, Temple City, CA 91780-7766.

--- JONATHAN FRID WEBSITE UPDATE

On Aug. 22, SG Update #157 to this List. 22 premiere-announced Jonathan's special digital video presentation would debut at the DS Festival's 40th Anniversary Celebration in Brooklyn. On Aug. 26-27, it screened for fans and DS guests, spotlighting his one-man Readers Theatre performance of "The Wooing of Lady Anne" from William Shakespeare's "Richard III."

A "recently revised" version is being mounted on Jonathan's official website. The "first segment of Episode 2 of the Wooing of Lady Anne Neville," here titled "The Digital Wooing - From Our Evil Incarnate Series," now is available on the website. The "first fresh digital video" of the second segment hopefully will be added in a few days. A "streaming video" version is planned.

Watch the digital presentation, learn about Jonathan's career, explore his observations on life, history, language, and more, all on his website. Visit: www.jonathanfrid.com

--- BETSY DURKIN - BOOK-SIGNING IN BEVERLY HILLS

Betsy asks SG to announce: "Dutton's Beverly Hills Books, at 447 N. Canon Dr., Beverly Hills, CA 90210 - 310-281-0997 is honoring me with a book signing for my book, 'Dressing the Man You Love,' on Sat., Oct. 28 at 2:00 pm."

Betsy's detailed, thorough fashion guide is a great resource to assist women - and men - in choosing, purchasing, caring for, and wearing almost every kind of men's garment. The book has numerous illustrations and diagrams and covers virtually every aspect of men's apparel.

She also attends the Halloween Party on Oct. 26 at the Vista Theatre in Los Angeles (see above). She will have photos and copies of her book there for purchase and for her to autograph. For fans who wish to mail-order the book, please visit her website:  www.dressingthemanyoulove.com

--- "RUNNING WITH SCISSORS" MOVIE
The film adaptation of the best-selling memoir by Augusten Burroughs goes into limited release Oct 20 and wide release Oct. 27. Starring Gwyneth Paltrow and Annette Benning, and set in the late 1960s, the comedy is about a boy whose unstable mother "dumps him" into the eccentric, dysfunctional family of her psychiatrist. In one scene, a character is shown watching original DS episode footage. Please send SG any media reviews, articles, or publicity about the movie.

*** DAN CURTIS' "NIGHT STALKER" & "TRILOGY OF TERROR" SALUTED

Dan's 1975 TV anthology movie "Trilogy of Terror," with "that maniacal doll," and his 1972 "Night Stalker" TV film are singled out in Bravo's "Even Scarier Movie Moments," a countdown to the #1 Movie Scare. It airs at 9:00pm on Fri., Oct. 20.

TV Guide 10-16 stated that "5 of our favorites all hail from the '70s," and cited both of these TV movies. Please send SG any media reviews, articles, or publicity about this Bravo TV special.

--- Note: Star Karen Black, and the actual Zuni fetish doll figure that is the evil heart of the most memorable sequence in "Trilogy of Terror," both will be at the DS Festival's Haunted Halloween Party at the Vista Theatre in Los Angeles on Oct. 26. Fans will have the opportunity to take their pictures with the doll (with their own cameras).

--- NEW MANNHEIM STEAMROLLER HALLOWEEN CD INCLUDES "DS THEME"

"Halloween, Vol. 2: Creatures Collection" - Box Set from Mannheim Steamroller is a new seasonal release of this new age music series. A rendition of the "DS Theme" in the distinctive Mannheim Steamroller musical styling is one of the featured TV theme songs (such as "X-Files," "Outer Limits," and others). The list price is $18.98, but it is available at a reduced price from amazon.com and many other online and retail merchants.

*** UPDATED & CORRECTED INFORMATION REGARDING CRAIG HAMRICK

SG Online Update #159 sadly announced the death of Craig Hamrick, DS fan, author, and researcher, who also was a talented photographer and a computer expert. He succumbed after a 4-year battle with colon cancer on Sept. 24.

Craig was involved in many aspects of DS, most notably with his popular, comprehensive website  darkshadowsonline.com  He was friends with a number of DS cast members and helped several of them establish and maintain their own websites. He wrote/edited a number of DS and other books and provided technical and informational support for various DS-related projects.

Craig's surviving life partner, Joe Salvatore, says a memorial is being planned to celebrate and share Craig's life. The tribute will take place on Sat., Nov. 18, in the Greenberg Lounge on the campus of New York University. Joe anticipates that he will be able to confirm the exact time and other details soon, but it will most likely take place in the late morning.

Please note the following corrected information.

Joe has named the recipient organization for any donations that people would like to make in remembrance of Craig. They adopted their 2 cats from the Brooklyn Shelter & Adoption Center, part of New York City Animal Care & Control, Inc. Contributions to this nonprofit organization will help care and find homes for homeless pets; offer low-cost spay/neutering services for all adopted pets; rescue injured or abused animals; and advocate on behalf of animal welfare.

Those who wish to remember Craig, please send your donation to the following adress and indicate that it is in memory of Craig Hamrick.

Development Department
New York City Animal Care & Control
11 Park Place, Suite 805
New York, NY 10007

I don't have the full details, but in the new film Running With Scissors, a "dramady" about a dysfunctional family,
Jill Clayburgh plays a DS fan who is seen watching the show!
Apparently her DS watching is her escape from her neurotic life!!

Yeah, it's like you said at this year's Fest, we're all a little nuts because we spend 1000's of dollars each year to fly to a hotel in a city other than our own to watch TV for 3 days, LOLLOL!   [candle_in_skull_2]

SG Online Update #159 ...

Dear Mod - I originally posted this excerpt in the Craig Hamrick thread where all of the complaining about Shadowgram was taking place. What was the point in moving my post to this thread? It seems a bit redundant here, doesn't it? Why not delete it all together?

But, from today's review in the LA Times, her character is "a catatonic shut-in who spends her days gaping at horror movies on TV and eating dog kibble out of the bag."  Oh great.

Cats do seem to get the better menu choices - and if you can believe the hype, they even get to eat out of crystal goblets. Dogs, on the other hand, seem to have resigned themselves to eating out of plastic bowls and drinking out of the toilet.  [hall2_cry]

If I was a DS fan who wanted to induldge in some pet food, I think I'd go with the cat food, too.  [hall_tongue]

In today's review in San Francisco Bay Times,
Clayburgh's character is called "the Dark Shadows
transfixed wife".

I'll be seeing the film Mon eve & I can't wait!
If the film's a hit, maybe it'll help bring about a DS
revival........
