Series Premiere
If you thought the shower scene in Carrie (in any version) was rough, wait until you see it amplified on social media. Mike Flanagan’s up-to-the-minute remake of the Stephen King classic that put the horrormeister on the map thrusts the once-sheltered, overwhelmed, and bullied title character (sensitively played by Summer H. Howell) into a modern high-school setting of toxic meme sites and alarming active-shooter lockdown drills. Flanagan regular Samantha Sloyan co-stars as Carrie’s militantly pious mother, Margaret White, losing control of her psychically superpowered daughter as the eight-part series (which is being conceived as a trilogy) builds to the climactic prom-pocalypse.
