This American Life

Came across these two radio shows the other day . . . Ira Glass and co. at "This American Life" which is a really superb radio program have two episodes that have essays about DS.  I've mentioned one of them before at the old Vantagenet, but came across the other show and thought it might be of interest.  You need Real Player.

Be warned, this is not slavish fan commentary, so if you're sensitive to any kind of criticism on that score . . . not for you.

This American Life

"Hallowe'en" and "Conventions" are the two episodes in question.  "Hallowe'en" can be found by going to Episodes/Real Audio in order of broadcast for 1996.  The "Conventions" episode was done in 1997.

Hi Luciaphil,

I wonder whether this was the thing for which I was interviewed at the 1997 Festival in NYC.  It was supposed to be broadcast on NPR.  Friends of mine who heard the final version did say that none of my snippets got used (not surprising, I wasn't terribly articulate as I recall that evening).

I would love to hear these, though.  I understand there's one point in one of the pieces where one of them says, "Now Grayson Hall--SHE shoulda become a star!" and the other goes "Right on!"  Or words to that effect.

Incidentally, your summary of the Thing that wouldn't die plot was a hoot!  I wish you'd done the whole movie. I thought I had seen it but maybe not.

Best,

Steve

That would be the Conventions piece as the other aired in 1996.  Not that I've ever met you, but if your written words are anything to go by, you must be articulate enough.

LOL, yes, you're right, that's there.  As well as someone's remark that they have this image of her going out to a bar after work and smoking.

I wish I could take credit for it, but I borrowed much of it from the good folks at MST3K.
