Fishing in Collinsport

Since Collinsport is a fishing village, what kind of fish would  they be fishing for. What kind of fish would be native to that part of Maine.

In Hancock County, Maine, which is where the publicity for the show placed Collinsport, there are numerous types of sea life. Lobster and Crab, some shrimp, deep water flounder, haddock, and other varieties of whitefish would be harvested.  Lobstering with traps would be very common in the coastal waters nearer to the shore.  Sardines are always a staple of canneries, so the Collinses would be interested in net fishing, as well. Scallops can be taken by divers or by dragnets.  Clams are dug out of the shoreline mud flats by hand, with a rake.

Sardines are always a staple of canneries

This is actually what the Collins' specialized in and what was canned at the cannery.  Can't remember the exact episode, but it was early Barnabas when Roger tells someone (Vickie?) that's what they can at the cannery.  He even mentions something about the kind of sardine cans they use.

At the time of DS, there were many more canneries on the coast of Maine than now. In fact, out of a peak of 75 sardine canneries in 1900, only one remains. The Stinson Cannery, located in Gouldsboro (yes, it's in Hancock County), is the last of its kind.
