Quentin was the most scary ghost. Jeremiah didn't even seem like he was the ghost of Jeremiah, and Josette in 1897 was just badly handled. I loved the idea of Kitty being Josette's reincarnation, but if she was, how could she also be a ghost at the same time. It would have been kind of cool if the writer's had had Kitty's character in the present day and involved with Roger instead of Edward.
Gerard's ghost was a pale copy of Quentin's to me, the writers made some changes but it still seem to be a poor retelling of the 1968-69 haunting.
Then when they went backto 1840, it seemed even more similar. They bring in Pansy again renaming her Leticia, Judah is a sort of Petofi, I feel that they ruin Angelique with the whole Miranda thing, and then having Barnabas say that she was his one true love? Not a good time for Dark Shadows.
They should have had Barnabas and Julia fix the ghost problem in the present, because the whole 1840 storyline contradicted what happened in 1897. How can Edith have died in 1840? This would have changed so much, it could have even prevented Quentin from ever being born.
They went back in time three times too many for me, when Barnabas goes back to save Vicki, When Barnabas and Kitty are drawn back to the 1790's, (making Kitty completely disappear, she is devoured by Josette) and the 1840 trip which side steps into 1841 PT).
I think that staying in the present and doing things with the present day characters would have been more interesting. After all they were great characters, Quentin was a wasted opportunity, Daphne could have become Liz's new secretary after being brought back to life (don't you think David was getting too old to need a governess?), Roger could have become involved with Josette's gold digging reincarnation, Barnabas could have been trying to win her over, Everyone could have marveled at how Maggie and Kitty looked alike, and Maggie could have become Maggie again. But of course, only for a while because KLS moved to England.
If they had stayed in the present Gerard wouldn't have seemed so much a copy of Quentin's ghost (I also think that they had too many characters named Quentin and each one was a more watered down version then the previous one). I loved the way they introduced Gerard's ghost that was scary! The trip to 1995, the ruined house, The crazy Carolyn, Quentin, Mrs. Johnson. Gerard seemed truly frightening. But then they wrecked it when they went back in time.
So Quentin's ghost was the most evil, scary ghost on Dark Shadows.
